Happy birthday Weston!
My kids aren't allowed gum until they move out. Actually, they're just not ever allowed it around ME, because gum chewing drives me batty.
Kim so happy to hear the barfintg & headaches & lethergy are gone. WOO! Let's hope it's done done and done.
The weather has been absolutely gorgeous here, finally. Cool in the mornings & evenings, warm during the day, light breeze, just lovely. I'm hoping we get good weather in DC next week instead of the blistering heat everyone keeps warning us about. I'm not worried; we'll have fun either way.
SO looking forward to time off. Mine starts Friday and goes through the following week, so I have Friday & Monday with a sitter watching the kids and me with the day off. I need it. All of last year's time off was spent dealing with sadness and sickness, and I just need some time for myself and for my husband & kids.
My plans include yoga, baking, napping, reading, and that's about it.
Laurie, love your plans for the week! I love those kinds of rest & recharge vacations.
I hate gum. If I hear it or see it, it goes in the trash. And if I'd thought the issue through clearly, I'd have set a much older age than four, but in the supermarket with a 2.5-year-old saying, "When, Mama, wheeeeeeennnnnn can I have some gum? Please Mama please tell me wheeeeeeennnn can I have some gum pleeeeeeeease!" the age of four seemed so very far away, LOL!
Kim, I really hope the barfing is over for your family. Fingers crossed it was a weird virus. One thing I love about being part of a large HMO -- my ped knows what viruses are hitting other areas, what other doctors in the network are seeing, not just what she's seeing in her office. One time I called about a sudden high fever and she said, "It's going to spike at 104 for a few hours, don't worry about giving her meds because they won't stay down. She'll be vomiting for a few hours, and then it'll be done." and she was exactly right. Another time I had Tiven in for a well check and she noticed a rash on Tiven's feet that had appeared since that morning, and she said, "This looks like the virus the East Bay has been dealing with for a few weeks. Don't be surprised if she throws up tonight." Tiven did!
Wish me luck today, please? I'm getting grilled this afternoon on the recommendations I made in our most recent case. I got to work this morning and I have about 100 pages of documents to review that the other side wants to ask me about this afternoon. Grrrrr....
Join the revolution & take back our holidays!
Change Black Friday into Buy Nothing Day, and don't take your credit cards to work on Cyber Monday.
Shift Your Shopping from mass marketers & big box stores to your local independent retailers & small artisans.
Practice a Buy Nothing Christmas. Instead of buying more things, give gifts of your time, your energy, and maybe even some unwanted things around your home; organize a used items gift swap among your family and/or friends.
Oh, I won't be resting for the week! Just a few days, then it's our family trip to busy Washington DC.
Happy belated to Weston! I always get very nostalgic too, Stacey, I'm glad that he and you had a good day
Kim, I'm so glad that N seems to be feeling better and I so hope that it continues.
Laurie your two days to yourself sound heavenly. Are you reading anything good? I'm only meh on the book I have right now (after obsessively reading the Divergent/insurgent series at the beach). I've got a similar thing going on as my bigs are with their grandparents this week and I just have the little guy, filling my days with yoga and running and some three year old specific things like the zoo or please touch museum ~ having just ONE kid feels like a wonderful vacation Its amazing how much cleaning and organizing I can get done with just one underfoot. I hope that this awesome cool weather continues for you guys next week in DC and that you have a great time.
I'm on day 6 of this Whole30 thing, and man, its awesome. If anyone ever wants to sortov "reset" their eating habits or kick a bad habit (after not drinking diet soda for years our Disney cruise got me drinking it and diet iced tea again........frequently........and I find that that kicks off all sorts of sugar cravings etc for me personally, so I needed to kill that, I hate artificial sweeteners and its so terrible how quickly a bad habit can sneak back into ones life!!!) I totally recommend it. If anybody wants to read about it let me know and I will send you a link to my blog.
DH and I are sneaking out this afternoon after my Dr's appointment for some golf and a dinner date but its threatening to rain, I'm so annoyed
I'm reading a ton! I read a few good novels recently:
The Interestings (Meg Wolitzer)
Canada (Richard Ford)
What The Family Needed (Steven Amsterdam)
And the Mountains Echoed (Khaled Hosseini)
And I loved loved Marcus Samuelsson's memoir called Yes, Chef.
Also the new book about the Mary Tyler Moore Show was great.
Also really liked The Humanity Project by Jean Thompson.
Right now I'm reading Cyndi Lauper's autobiography.
Am sitting in a reclining chair on the Columbia River at the base of a mountain, sun shining on my body, drinking a beer while my kids entertain themselves with games and RC cars and their bikes. Life.is.good.
Melissa, my oldest and I read the Divergent series last summer and LOVED it. I think Molly read the first book in less then 24 hours. We are arguing over who gets to read the next book first (probably just have her log her kindle into my acct so we can read it at the same time)
We have some really bad forest fires around here and the air quality is so bad the health officials are suggesting people stay indoors. I couldnt take being holed up anymore so we went way up in the mountains above the smoke and camped for 2 nights, I am not happy about being back into the smoke, but Dh has to be at work tomorrow. I was really tempted to tell him to come back down and that we would stay up there, but we would have run out of food
Molly, Morgan, Mia and Carson
I do like reading what Nathaniel's reading sometimes. I went through the whole Percy Jackson series because he loves them so much and we talk about those books all the time now. So fun.
