I have never paid that much for a car seat. I just don't think you have to spend that much money for something safe.

This one has great reviews and it is only about $50.

I love Jace's Britax... It was expensive but well worth it because he can sit 5 point harnessed up to 85lbs.

Can I ask How old of a child weighs 85lbs? That is only 12lbs less than my sister was when she got married. I can not imagine putting an 85lb person in a 5 point harness.

I think if you want that expensive of a car seat and you can afford it, then that is great. If you can not, then a cheaper car seat will do fine as well.

My 10 y.o nephew is 100 lbs. He's really athletic and probably a bit on the tall side for his age. I think a 10 y.o. on average weighs 80 lbs. When I was 10 I weighed 72 lbs. I think it has more to do with their development than their weight. Like, they're still pretty small in comparison to adults and are not as physiologically developed.

Even low end carseats are way more than $50 in Canada. The cheapest one in Walmart is around $70-80. I wouldn't buy a carseat with a 5 pt harness that only went to 40 lbs. And in Canada a child must be in a carseat or booster seat until they reach 80 pounds. Since good carseats have weight limits of up to 80 lbs or more, it makes sense to buy a good one that will last for years and fit the child till they reach the maximum weight capacity.

My oldest son is 50 lbs and still in a 5 point. He turned 6 last month. He is thin, but I imagine an overweight child or toddler would weigh more than him. His converts to a booster and goes to 85 lbs. It was expensive, yes, but I don't need to buy another seat.

My baby was 20 lbs at 3 months and is almost 40 lbs now at 2, so a seat that went to only 40 lbs might seem like a great deal at the time, but we would have to buy at least one more seat anyhow, so that cost would have to be figured in. We also drive back and forth to the beach and my inlaws a lot, I wouldn't want to put my kids into an uncomfortable seat, personally. To each their own. Cost is all relative to what one can afford, I guess. To us it was a good investment with three kids using them.

Today is my daughters party. Off to skewer innocent fruit in the name of tea I was up way too late bidding goodbye to a good friend who is moving to Boston. I'm very sad to see her go. There were sequined hot pants involved.

My kids will be teenagers before they ever reach 80 lbs....Emma is 11 and not even close to 80....she's barely pushing 60. i really couldn't see putting her in a booster seat as a teenager.

Melissa any not involving sequined hotpants has to be a fun one! you will have to come to Boston to visit your friend...And reserve a day to visit other people too!

My DD that will be 11 next week is 57 lbs. If I tried to make her sit in a car seat now she might run away from home.

Kim I'm coming up this summer to visit them ~ they are moving to duxbury MA ~ and yes, I would love to see you and for sure Robin and her bouncing new baby boy. I'm still sad you didn't make it out with us a few years back on St Patties day. I graduated from high school at maybe 90 lbs soaking wet, so yes, I empathize with your tiny kids
