When Claire had her culture and sensitivity done in the hospital her e-coli count was higher than could be measured. But, when it gets into your blood that's a whole other story. Claire never had e-coli in her blood, to our relief.

I do not know what the counts were. No one said. I go back to the doctor Monday. Hopefully then I will find out more of what happened and what is next. I am still going back and forth between no fever and a low grade fever. I am hoping that does not mean there is still infection hanging around somewhere.

I wouldn't worry too much Bonita. Usually with UTIs the fever is pretty substantial. Maybe you're just run down and fighting off a different infection? Like the dr said, if you spike a fever you should go back to get checked out. I remember so clearly Claire's fever being 105.2 when I took her to the hospital. It took 3 days of IV antibiotics before her fever came down.

Well, that was 3 years and 2 operations ago. Have you ever been tested for VUR (vesicoureteral urinary reflux)? Have you suffered from what you consider to be more than the normal number of UTIs in your lifetime? If so, you should insist on being tested for it. It's called a VCUG test and is quite simple. They insert a catheter and fill your bladder with a liquid that shows up on a special scan and then they simply watch for where the liquid goes. If it drains downward you're good to go, but if it starts back-flowing up your ureters towards your kidneys then you have reflux. How far it flows back will determine the grade (1 to 5) of reflux. Urinary reflux is caused by faulty valves, or total lack of, that keep urine from backing up out of your bladder. When you get a UTI the infection should normally be contained within the urethra or bladder. Getting back to the kidneys is BAD. Please ask your doctor Bonita. Kidney scarring and damage is very serious. I don't mean to scare you, but I know that countless girls and women suffer from this defect for years when it's simple to correct!

I will ask the doctor on Monday where to go from here to make sure I never get a UTI again, however it has been about 10 years since I have had a UTI so I do not think I have something wrong making me get them. I have had probably less than 5 in my lifetime. Why this one was so terrible is beyond me.

Bonita, I'm so sorry that you're going through that! I hope that you are feeling better today and continue to heal quickly and well. How scary!

So, kind of out of the blue, I think we are going to be taking in an exchange student from Lebanon! Like we don't have enough craziness and change in our life right now...we have to be out of our old house by Sunday (we're mostly packed, thank goodness, and we hired movers for Saturday afternoon) and then we're going to stay with my in laws for two weeks until we can move in to our new house, but then once we're moved into our new house I really think we are going to have her. She is already here, and she was originally staying with another family but I guess it just was not working out. Basically, she is Muslim (although apparently not very religious) and her host family was pushing her to convert. DH is her English teacher, and he says that she is a really great kid. Right now she is staying with the exchange program cooridinator over an hour away from the high school, so that is not very sustainable. DH came home a couple of nights ago and he didn't exactly ask me if we could take her in, but he knows me and knows I'm a sucker especially for kids in need and I'm pretty sure he was playing me. Like "Oh, this poor kid, she got here and now she doesn't have anywhere permanent to stay, and she's such a nice kid, and I'm sure her parents are worried sick and she's stressed out, can you imagine being in a strange country and then not having a permanent living situation, and do we know of anyone who could possibly take her in? Anyone? Maybe someone with an extra bedroom in their house? Anyone?" Finally I was like "Well, I guess once we move we are going to have an extra room in our house....." And now two days later I'm filling out the application to be a host family and applying for a background check. He played me. LOL I don't mind though; I just hope that we are able to give her the experience she was expecting when she applied to be an exchange student. Also, since religion has already been an issue I hope it's not an issue that we are atheists, but I don't expect it will be since we will NOT be trying to convert her to atheism. I've actually already started looking around and I know where there is a mosque that we can take her to if she wants to go, and I am looking at the upcoming Muslim holidays. My thought is that if she wants to celebrate them with us, we will help her with that and that will be a cool experience for Tristan. Plus she can also experience celebrating Christmas, Channukah, and Solstice with us. The more the merrier, amiright? LOL Anyway, so that is our crazy life.

Alissa, that will be such an awesome experience. We used to house a Japanese teenager every summer (back when we had an extra bedroom) and it was one of the best things we could have done for our kids. My girls are so interested in other cultures and I think it is from hosting students

    Bonita, Keep getting better!

Alissa, that sounds exciting! How terrible for her to be so far away from home and be in such a hostile environment. I mean, to deal with that where you have to live and come home to each day.

Everyone has been quiet lately! Everyone been busy?

I don't have much to report. We are officially done with 'pig season'....and overall i would call it a big success and an excellent experience. We just finished up smoking the last of the hams and bacon yesterday. Seamus and I might make one more batch of sausage, but haven't decided. I would definitely do this again. (and sorry to anyone i may be FB friends with who may have been getting an superfluous amount of pictures of ham dinners and smoked sausages LOL).

In other news, we got Solar Panels installed last week! They technically aren't hooked up yet because we have to get a new meter from the electric company but they are sitting on the roof ready to go for when they do decided to show up and change that meter.

Nothing else much going on. Kids are doing a rec soccer and rec cheering program, both very short and not time intensive. Lillian and Aodhan have basketball try outs in about a week.

We are just enjoying the fall weather and football season! Leaves are starting to change and it would be a good time to plan another hike. Supposed to be good foliage this year!
