And then the cold snap we had a couple of weeks ago, which many of you will LYAO at me calling it "cold" but when it hits the 30s overnight for two weeks straight, that's considered Damn Cold here! We brought in or covered our plants so most of them survived, but our neighbor's big beautiful angel's trumpet tree is probably dead. It was still flowering in late November but now the flowers & leaves are all brown & shriveled & it looks so sad. I hope it can bounce back.
This is very unusual for this area as well. If the predictions come true, it will be record breaking. The news said it has been 5 years since it has gotten close to this cold.

OK, I`m gonna be the jerk It is -2F here which is average for winter, but we have record breaking snowfall this winter. We have about 4 ft on the ground right now. DH had to shovel paths in the backyard so the kids dont get stuck

I know it all has to do with what you are used to though. Hope everyone keeps safe and warm. My advice is to cultivate a friend with a wood stove so you can bunk in if the power goes out. Or alternately, get the whole family into one room (or bed) with lots of covers. Your body heat will do a good job keeping a small space warmish if its not too cold.

We had a cold snap here in the middle of December. Nights got below 0 which never happens, it caused a lot of damage. I really hope we dont have that again, it was no fun

My kids are out of school tomorrow (supposed to be their first day back) due to extreme cold and snow. We got about 10"-12" on NYE and NYD, and then another 8"-10" or so yesterday and today. Right now it's -2F, feels like -23F with the windchill. The high tomorrow is supposed to be -13F, with windchills down to -45F to -55F. Luckily I can take a vacation day and stay inside all day with them.

He's not from KSA, not Arab. Goodness..so many reasons. We wanted to focus on the things which are important to us. We wanted to practice our religion and also have access to normal, common things which we severely lacked. We wanted to raise our kids in a better way and reduce their stresses. We are having a wonderful time here. I went snorkeling for the first time in such a longg time. I took the kids to the water park while my husband was at work...and it was all ladies and small kids. I felt so free. The kids got to enjoy things which they could never do in the U.S. They feel like normal kids and we have our values. These sorts of reasons.

We did not get any of the snow that was hyped about. Just cold and windy. They already cancelled school for today and yesterday.

My kids went back to school today. We had pulled Weston from preschool for December to both save some money and also because we had so much other stuff going on for him that he would have missed a lot of days anyway. And Tiven's been off the past two weeks for winter break. It was kind of weird to get them both up & dressed & lunches made & get us all out the door at 8:15. And it was kind of weird to make two drop-offs before heading to work. Funny how quickly I got out of the morning routine! I actually started to turn the wrong way at the end of the street and Tiven reminded me I had to take her to school!

Wow, that is COLD! It's weird to think you guys are having it worse than us, but our winter has been quite mild so far. We're getting lashed with gale force winds and flooding instead
