Laurie i was thinking of you this morning. Kids wanted blueberry muffins so i grabbed a recipe and was appalled at how horrible for you this recipe was. I still went with it, and they are delicious, but I need to find something better. You have to teach me some substitution tips!

Kai and I made amazing cookies the other day. We used bananas as the base with half the amount of margarine. Then we made the cookies as normal (I always reduce sugar) and added chopped up chocolate eggs from easter. Oh my they were delicious! The banana created a really nice texture and sweetness. So good.

Just to update everyone, Rob goes for a biopsy tomorrow. He has been home for a few days as his meds are stable, but they are still not 100% sure as to what it is. They won't say for sure that it is an infection or a tumor. Hopefully the biopsy will actually tell us.

I can't go with him as it is on the mainland and I have to stay with DD and our childcare bailed on us. Fortunately his mom can. She is the only reason I can stay here and know he is taken care of. She is the only one besides me that I trust with this!

Fuchsia, I hope it is just a virus that they can cure. I am thinking about you and hoping it all works out!

    Vent and Rant alert!

So I have been super pissed off and upset lately. We had planned to take most of July, drive to Vancouver Island and spend a month with our family (both DH and I are from there) and camping with the kids etc. Real family time. Plus, my cousin is getting married, so I was excited to go to that.

We just found out that DH's family has planned this huge one day naming ceremony for the end of September. DH is getting named so he has to be in attendance and he wants our kids to experience it as well. It is on the island as well, and we cant afford both trips. So this basically means that we are exchanging a month of holiday/family time, and a big family event with my family, for a long weekend of rushing around with his family. At this point I am refusing to go I am so pissed off, which is really ticking DH off and all we have done for the last week is fight about it. But seriously, I am not driving for 12 hours with a 1 year old to spend 2 or 3 days rushing from house to house, just to spend 12 more hours in the car again. I wont do it and nobody can make me damnit! DH says I am being culturally insensitive, but I say his family are being very insensitive and other words i cant type in front of the kids. September is the worst possible time for us to travel as DD will be just starting school. And the worst part is that DH wont even mention to his Dad how much this screws up all our plans! I told him to call his Dad, since we heard about the whole thing from his sister, and he OFFERED TO HELP!!!!! I am so pissed off right now, and really sad about the whole thing. I just wish he would stick up for our family and the time that we need right now.

Kyla, that sucks. I hope you can find a solution. I would be pissed too. A rushed weekend does not take the place of a family vacation!

I'm totally on your side, Kyla! What is it with people who plan things that involve other people, without consulting those other people FIRST? They should do the naming ceremony when they know you're going to be there anyway. I wouldn't change my family's month-long vacation plans for that, and I'd counter the "culturally insensitive" argument with the fact that his family is being rude *and* insensitive to both your family's already-set vacation plans *and* finances. If FIL offered to "help," I'd say four round-trip air tickets should make the trip do-able.

We got so much hassle from both sides, DH's family & mine, when we refused to share our babies' names. The fact was, we weren't sure if our top picks would stick, and we hadn't settled on middle names for either of them. But mostly, we wanted our babies to be the first to know their names.
