So my little Caitlyn has been sick this AM. The poor little thing has thrown up twice. After she got whatever out of her system, she has been playing acting as normal so I am not sure what was going on this AM. It is hard at that age (3) to get her to communicate exactly how she feels.

Bonita, Ben had a barf-o-rama (a la Stand By Me) a few months ago, where he puked his guts out for a few hours then was like "Whew. So glad THAT'S over!!" and started playing like nothing happened. Kids are weird.

So let me ask, how long after the vomiting stopped did you wait to take him around other children? We had plans for this evening, but normally have a rule about not going out for 24 hours after the last fever or vomit. I really wanted to go, but I don't know.

    ETA - I smell a spin off

My five year old, Nathalie, will only barf 1 - 3 times when she gets the stomach bug no matter how bad the other kids get it. I think she has been blessed with a resistance to stomach bugs....and she always seems happy as a clam throughout most of it. Of course thats history, and now that i have said that, next time she gets it she will barf her brains out.

If i were in your shoes, i'd probably cancel the plans. Bummer though!

Thanks for the advice. I will probably wait and talk to DH and see what he thinks and how she does for the rest of the day.

FYI, according to the CDC, something like Norovirus is contagious for at least 3 days after the individual recovers, sometimes longer.

So you can look at it two ways. 1, she is likely to be contagious even though she feels better or 2, even if she is contagious, standard social rules about returning to play (24 hours after symptoms, which isnt' really enough time) means we are all over-exposed to norovirus anyway so how much does it really matter.

Last time Conner was sick was at christmas and he threw up once a day for about a week. It was really annoying Other than that he seemed fine, but every once in awhile he would stop running around and spew wherever he happened to be standing. So I wouldnt count on her being done, even though it seems like it.

lol...We know when Ben's about to barf because instead of saying "I'm going to barf" he said "I need a paper towel."

Funny barf story: A few weeks ago DH was driving Claire to Sparks and she started coughing (she had a cold) and she coughed till she started gagging and then started puking. DH pulls over, runs around to her door holding out paper towel for her to puke in (she'd already puked all over herself and the carseat) and then HE starts barfing all over the sidewalk while holding the paper towel in front of her face the whole time. He is a puke wuss. Just the sound of someone puking is enough to make him start. So I was the lucky one who got to take the carseat out of his truck and get the cover off the darned thing to wash it. Puke was all in the buckles and everything. Have you ever tried to get the cover off a Radian carseat? Not fun.

Ugg! My DH gaggs at baby diapers, but his stomach has been pretty good with all this puke lately. The first time COnner went on monday was in the car. By the time I realized what was going on (he is right behind my seat) it wasnt worth stopping, so I just raced home. It was pooled in the seat.....so gross! I had to wash the cover twice, thats after wrestling it off the seat and dragging all the buckles through the puke, cause there is no other way to get them off. In the end I ended up washing the straps and buckles in soapy water, which I know is a no-no, but how else do you get the puke out of the little nooks and crannies?

Cleaning barf-ified car seats is THE WORST.
