Rob had really long hair (down to mid back) and he decided that since he will be losing it anyways he wanted to do some good with it. So he had his head shaved and he is sending his hair to an organisation that makes wigs for kids who lost their hair due to medical conditions. He just did it today and it is such a change. It made me really sad for a while. But I am also really proud of him. It was a difficult but very generous thing to do.

He did the right thing. When Jake started to lose his hair he made me shave it because it was coming out chunks at a time and it was getting under his clothes and making him itch.

There is a triage set up at a nearby football field and they just reported that they were waiting on 9 Careflight helicopters so some people must be seriously hurt.

They have called in fire departments all the way from Dallas, Fort Worth and Waco to come and help. They said 30 people were taken to the hospital from a nearby nursing home that caught fire.
Oh my. So much happening recently.

We realized awhile ago that we actually heard this explosion even though this was 45 miles south of us. We thought it was thunder at the time but figured out there is no thunder in the area. It has been reported that there were firefighters at the fire when it exploded that were killed. Early reports are saying there may be as many as 60 dead this is so devastating.

Ya, his hair was driving him nuts. Because he spends most of his time lying down it was always in his face or too hot. It will be better shorter. And some child will get his really nice hair.

Laurie, good for you for taking a day for yourself! I often find anniversaries of birthdays or, like you, the day a diagnosis was received, to be harder than the actual anniversary of their death. At the point of death, I'm relieved their painful battle is over but the everyday stuff still gets me.

Gloria, I just realized your next grandbaby will be here soon! Do they live near you? Will you be able to be there, or get there soon?

Clairesmommy, do you have a gas or electric stove? I had that happen once on an electric stove. It was the part that the burner element plugs into; when I opened the top of the stove there were sparks from it! Now that I have a gas stove, it happens a lot more often but is much easier to fix. It happens when something is blocking one of the electronic ignition points that light the gas -- usually when I put a large pan in the broiler or have cleaned the stove & not put the top of a burner back on correctly. Just move whatever's blocking the ignition point and the sound goes away.
David Letterman is retiring. Such great memories of watching him over the past thirty-two years!

Unfortunately they are in Tucson which is a 14 hour drive. I plan to fly over there in about 3 weeks or so he just got home from Afghanistan so they have asked for a little time to themselves.

Gloria, that's so scary. 60 dead. It's unbelievable.

Fuchsia, that's really beautiful what Rob did. His hair will come back when he's done with treatment but in the meantime he's done something so lovely. Meaningful and beautiful.
