Nathaniel likes his glasses too, although now that the novelty has worn of, he never remembers to wear them.

So now we are going to the glasses store as soon as her eyes calm down from the drops.

Cause I really needed more on my plate right now! Fortunately she is thrilled at the thought of getting glasses. Apparently she didn't know she couldn't see either. Now that she knows she is supposed to see more she wants to get glasses right away.
What is her RX? Alyssa has had glasses since she was 3. She has an appointment on Tuesday for new glasses. Her RX I believe is +6.25 plus astigmatism last I knew. It gets worse each year. We were just talking about this tonight. She hates that none of her friends have glasses.

When I got my glasses in 4th grade, only one other kid in the whole school had them! Now a ton of the kids at my kids' school have them.

It is +8 and +8.25. Eek!

We are lucky that her best friend and most of her family have glasses. I don't think it will be a problem for her to remember to wear them as she really can't see without them.

Yikes! That is a very strong RX. Alyssa does not ever go without her glasses. Even with her glasses, her vision is not is good as mine so I am sure her RX will change again.

My twin nephews who are 6 just got glasses too. They were pretty early - almost 6 weeks early. I wonder if that has anything to do with their eyesight. It must.

That reminds me that I have to book the kids' eye checkup. Neither DH nor I wear glasses, but (get this!) I have astigmatism, have had laser eye surgery for sub-acute angle closure glaucoma, and I have mild cataracts in both eyes. Yet, my vision 20/20 in one eye and 20/15 in the other. I have like every other eye problem except for needing glasses.

That is neat that you do not need glasses.

Being a preemie only makes you need glasses I believe if you were on Oxygen for a long period of time. It is not being born early that affects the eyes, but rather the life saving treatment. It is normally the babies that were born very, very early that have problems with their eyes.

This is similar to my oldest DDs RX. I think hers are +8 and +8.5. The good thing about them being so bad is that she wont go without her glasses or contacts, she started wearing them at 18 months and we have never had a broken or lost pair. My other 2 girls have very very small RXs and they never wear them and have both lost a couple pairs, it is a pain

Can I ask at what age did you start allowing contacts?

They both have astigmatism. They didn't need much oxygen after birth, if any. I wonder if there's an increased chance of astigmatism in preemies.
