So by your logic you obviously advocate for legalized abortion and all currently illegal drugs to be made legal and unregulated......... right? Because if someone really wants those things, they can get them anyway, so why make them illegal and/or regulated. Otherwise your stance is pretty hypocritical.

I am not in fan of banning guns, I just said in response to the previous statement (You could not just ban handguns in just Chicago, because you could get them else where. That you would need to ban them through the US), that, that would not work either because you could still get one if you really wanted one.

I am a fan of regulating guns. I do not think it should be legal to walk into a crowded building with assault weapons. I am not a fan of banning ALL guns. I do think there should be strict rules regarding them.

This scares the bejeebees out of me, too. Which is why I ask every parent where a child of mine goes if they own guns and if yes, where and how they store them. From:
HealthyChildren.org - Handguns in the Home
I actually had that conversation with my mom and her SO when he was getting into hunting again. We had a really good family discussion about how the inclusion of these tools in our family would go. How would they be stored and what would DD be told about them to keep her safe. It was really important to all of us to have that conversation.

I just had a realization. Some guns are tools to be used for a real purpose (hunting, military, police force, in home self defense etc). Some are just weapons with no other use than to kill another person (assault weapons). I think I am fine with the use of guns as tools, but not as weapons.

A ban on guns will never work. (As much as I would love to see it) But some good useful regulations would certainly save lives.

Sure. I totally think that as well. I am only against a blanket ban on all guns which some on here seem to support.

Oh, it was hard to tell what kind of guns you were talking about. While the articles may have talked about handguns, i didn't notice a specification in your comments, they felt general about owning any guns. No my husband's family doesn't hunt with handguns

I feel like the fact that Chicago has banned hand guns doesn't really matter bc they are so prevalent everywhere else. If we banned them in the entire country, it would surely be more effective than a ban that only enforced in certain cities.

I think of hunters differently than I think of people who "stockpile" weapons or CC. Hunters don't keep loaded weapons readily available "in case" of an emergency (never mind that they more often create the emergency themselves.)

My point with the 117 kids killed by handguns is that they are everywhere. EVERYWHERE. And it has an impact. That's all. I just am having trouble seeing the upside of magazine clips that hold 100 rounds, concealed handguns, and assault rifles.
I would be happy with banning certain types of weapons and magazines. Defining that would be challenging(our attempt in the 90s to do this was a big fail IMO), but i think its doable. And I would be okay with no CC.

I think those two things alone would make a significant difference.

I would ONLY be ok with banning certain weapons if we change the 2nd amendment... sorry I am so sticking to it like that. As it is right now, I believe we should follow our constitution, and Bill of Rights, and not limit the militia. If we want to limit it we need to change Amendment.

Yes, you would expect so see others with guns. However, part of the game play is to determine who poses a threat and who does not. When I watch my nephew play some of these types of games, the voice-over is frequently, "Dude! We're on the same team!" I haven't played many of these types of games but the ones I have played penalized me for the "gun" turning out to be a shoe or the "bad guy" turning out to be my teammate.

Bonita-- I haven't heard any person say that they want to ban ALL guns. Not one.

Rivergallery-- I would change the Constitution. It makes sense to me, though I don't think it is necessary to enact reasonable gun regulations.

I went back through and looked through most of the 25 pages of debate. It seems to me that about 1/2 of the posters are talking about assault weapons only, the other half seem to be talking about guns in general. I am pretty sure any talk of CC would not be an assault weapon (I really do not think you can get a CC for an assault weapon). I think it is reasonable that a gun that can kill 50 people in 1 minute would have no place in public life. However an assortment of legally bought guns in a locked gun cabinet in a private residence is that persons prerogative.
