Default Happy Easter. Here's a dead bunny.

CONWAY, S.C. - When Joey Johnson got a postcard showing what appears to be a dead Easter bunny from The Rock Community Church in Conway, S.C., he thought it was a misguided joke.

He wondered why a church would use such a graphic image to promote their house of worship.

Pastor Kevin Childs of the church says the postcards were designed to make you take a second look.

He said that he was willing to risk offending some people to bring attention to Jesus, the church and the gospel.

According to Childs even some of his own church members were offended by the postcard, but even if he could go back and do it all again.
Picture of the postcard which reads "Bunnies Stay Dead. Jesus Didn't." at the link.

Funny? Inappropriate? Thought provoking? Does it make you want to attend that church?

I'm probably in the minority, but I think it's kind of funny (in a sort of gallows humor way.)

My kid checks the mail. Wouldn't make me happy or interested in the church, but not mad enough to call them and complain.

It got me thinking... of how stupid this church is to do something like that. What a ridiculous and unsuccesful way to attempt to get people to church. I would be really upset if my kids saw this.

Do you guys who are worried about your children seeing it also shield them from the dead animals in the fridge that you feed to them? Heck, you teach your children that you are drinking the blood of christ, is a dead bunny, or their dead chicken dinner really all that much more upsetting?

    c'mon.

I'm with Alissa. Its funny, in a sick way.

It may be funny, but my kid has a pet bunny at grandma's house. It would take me hours to reassure him it wasn't his bunny. Three weeks ago it would have made me giggle out loud. Now it's scary stuff- I'm not that great of a parent.

The dead chicken that we eat is wrapped in a package with no blood anywhere. I don't think a picture of a bunny that's been hit by a car (or however it met it's demise) with blood splattered onto the dirt is in any way a comparison to chicken or steak that might be sold in a grocery store. And the drinking during communion represents Christ's blood that was shed, not that we're actually drinking blood... and young children don't participate in the act of communion in my church anyway.

I don't think it is big deal and wouldn't lose any sleep over my kids seeing it either... But, daddy hunting a deer/rabbit/goose and gutting/skinning/butchering it is nothing but a cool science lesson and yummy dinner around here

I doubt though that those post cards will draw people into the church, even if they do see the humor in the joke.

So because they can't see much blood feeding them dead animals isn't worse than them seeing a picture of a dead bunny? Do you blindfold them in the car ~ we see roadkill here all the time, especially this time of year. I just can't imagine my children being so upset by a dead bunny. Maybe they are just extra resilient or something. We teach them that everything dies, and that death is a part of life, so I don't worry that this would be like some terrifying eye opener/loss of innocence via postcard thing.
