1. What is your favorite book?
Ok, you know, i am a very bad reader. I start books, but rarely finish them! And i don't sit down and read often. But I'd say the one that I liked reading the most as an adult was The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. As a kid, it was the Hobbit.

2. What is your favorite food?
I am a lover of all foods, this is not an easy thing to answer! Gin and Tonic! Wait, thats not a food. I'm a big fan of comfort foods. Shepherd's pie, homemade meatloaf, grilled cheese. But I also love pasta and mexican. I truly can't pick a favorite!

3. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I originally wanted to be a vet or zoologist or something animal related, but my father greatly discouraged me from doing so. Thought there were no viable career paths in that. Funny thing is, i genuinely have no desire to do something related to that now.

4. Who did you vote for in the last presidential election?
Obama

5. If you could live anywhere in the world for 1 year, where would you go?
Florence, Italy

Did you always know that you wanted a big family?
Yes! I always said i wanted at least 6 kids like my parents had.

Do you want any more kids?
No I don't. Smile Seamus has gotten the big V so it is official.

What is your favorite season?
Fall, by far. Its not just my favorite season, its one of my favorite things period! Cool days, chilly nights, I love fall foods, sweaters, beautiful changing leaves....i could keep going.

If you had to choose between your pet and a stranger in a burning house and you could only save one of them, which one would it be?
Biggrin

Stranger! Every time! BUT, did you see the cute kitten that we found in our yard? (Which i have since given to Seamus' sister and fiance). I was tempted to keep it myself and some days i still wish I did because its so adorable.

I may have to change my answer to make an exception for small fluffy kittens.

ETA: I"ll come back later tonight, to do more!

What is the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you?
I don't think I have ever suffered anything horribly horribly embarrassing. But I was socially awkward growing up and had many routine minor or smaller embarrassments. Older students who would make fun of me, walking in on people saying mean things. That kind of stuff.

Ensign Ro or Tasha Yar? Why?
Thats tough...i like them both and they are similar in many ways (thus the question,i know). I think i would have to say Ro...because she goes with her gut over authority. Something i'm too chicken to do. Also, I hate time travel and how it can never 100% make sense, and thats too ingrained in Yar's storyline. But i won't ever forget when that tar baby alien (yes i don't remember what its called) killed Yar the first time. I couldn't believe she was actually dead and i thought it sucked that they killed her off (sort of).

What's one of your favorite things about each of your children?
Emma's studious nature, she's a little nerd.
Aodhan's curiosity, he loves to figure out how things work
Lillian's sensitivy and consideration of others, she is the nurturer of the bunch and the most willing to help
Nathalie, her amazing ability to understand some pretty adult concepts at such a young age.
Cecilia, how ready she is to run around outdoors. She is more fearless outside than any of the others were at her age.

What would be the top 5 things on your bucket list?
I'll go in order of most likely to least likely:
Get another degree
Visit All 50 states (extensively, not just drive by)
Open a Yarn Shop
Run a Bed and Breakfast
Hike the Appalachian Trail

What song do you hate to love? What movie do you hate to love?
To Be With You by Mr. Big
International Harvester By Craig Morgan (And yes there is country music I do like!)

Which of the 5 New Kids on the Block is the cutest?
Lana, i can honestly say i never listened to new kids! I can't even tell you all their names without looking them up. I remember my best friend was in LOVE with NKOTB and even had a themed birthday party and I just couldn't understand the hype. I don't know which one i would have thought was the cutest! LOL

Laurie i skipped you! My bad.

What does your house look like on a typical day?
Awful really. I'm embarrassed to say. Toys scattered everywhere, dishes to be done, piles of laundry, some clean some dirty. Mail not sorted. Beds not made...i could go on. Catch me on a Sunday morning and things are starting to look good again. It never gets to a point where it can't all be put back together with a hard days works...but during the week, it goes to ****! I like time to wind down in the evening, and if I tried to keep the house in perfect order, I would never rest.

What's your favorite thing to do on your birthday?
Sleep in (I am NOT a morning person!) I would love to do a little yarn shopping guilt free. And then out to dinner at a real nice restaurant with my husband. I love good restaurants!

What tv show do you never miss if you can help it?
Remember, i do not have cable! That affects my answer
During the regular season, it would be The Good Wife these days
During the summer right now, Master Chef (its on right now!)

What job would you like to have that's completely different from what you do now?
Run a yarn shop!!

What things really really REALLY annoy you?
Hypochondria
Small incessant repetitive noises (like tapping fingers)
Places so loud that you have trouble hearing the person you are talking to and have to shout
My mother's passive aggressiveness

Thanks for all the questions so far ladies!
More More!

My husband for sure. It might be fun to include his siblings and their spouses too. I would imagine Emma too (figuring she would be older). She loves the outdoors and nature.

Which of your children exhibits the most traits like you?
Aodhan. He has my short temper and stubborn-ness. And he is high strung. I know, they all sound like negative qualities, but they are all ones that I really identify with, so i sympathize with him!

Would you rather cook or clean?
I would rather clean. I honestly hate cooking. I want to love cooking, because I love and have a major appreciation for good food. But I just don't enjoy it. I find cleaning satisfying while i'm doing it and when i'm done.

Do you like to share your me time (hubby or girls) or enjoy some solitude?
For the most part I like to share my me time with Seamus. Although every once in a while i really enjoy some complete alone time, if he goes to bed and i stay up. Not too often though!

Thanks for the questions!

What time do you usually go to bed at night and get up in the morning?
I usually get up around 6:30 due to the kids and schedules...but i could sleep until 9:30 any day, sometimes later if it were possible. I would say I usually get to bed by 11:30pm...sometimes a tiny bit earlier. Often an hour or two later. I really should go to bed earlier!

What is your favorite way to relax/de-stress?
Knit in front of the tv.

Are you a jeans and t shirt kind of gal, or do you like to dress up?
Jeans and t shirt for sure. I almost never dress up. I keep telling myself i'm going to wear more skirts during the summer, but i haven't done it much and even if i do, they are very casual.

How and when did you meet your hubby?
We had the same work study job in college...building sets for our theater. It was fun and we had the best boss. I was a sophomore and Seamus was a freshman. We didn't start 'officially' dating though until i was a senior and there was a whole lot of drama around that!

Jesus...and that would be my answer regardless of if i was Christian or not. Given how influential and widespread Christianity is these days....i want to get the deal straight from his mouth.

Do you organize your fridge or do you just put things in randomly?
Pretty random. But our fridge is not super cluttered so its easy to find what we need.

When was the last time you went to the movies? What did you see?
We went to see Harry Potter two thursdays ago! I've honestly seen more movies in the last year than I have in the past 10. Its awesome!

I'd rather be too cold. Unless like, i'm outside with no protection and I'll die of course. Biggrin

But yeah. Definitely would rather be too cold. I complain in the summer, not in the winter!

What items do you always have when leaving the house?
My wallet, my phone and my keys.

If you could take 3 things to a desert island what would they be and why?
A swiss army knife, best bang for your buck

My knitting needles...i'm sure i could find something to use as 'yarn' there, it would be theraputic and might even be useful!

A picture of the people i love. Assuming they aren't coming with me. They'd be my inspiration

If you could live at any time other than now when would it be?
Ugh, do i have to? LOL I don't know...I"ll try the roaring twenties. I really don't want to go back too too far. I enjoy modern day conveniences...geez that might even be too far for my liking Biggrin

What is one luxury you can't live without?
My internet connection. I know its sort of becoming a necessity(not quite yet though) and I'm ignoring the fact that i need it to telecommute at the moment.

What is one thing your husband does that really annoys you?
He taps his fingers constantly and sometimes really loudly like he's tapping to a rock tune in his head. ETA: he'll even tap them when he's got his hand on my lap....it drives my bizonkers!

What is your biggest insecurity?
I'd say its tied....

1)I know it sounds paranoid but i often worry that people don't like me or criticize me behind my back. I'm very good though at battling that paranoia and I don't let it get to me for the most part.

2)Failing as a parent. I wish I had more concrete reassurance that i was doing enough things right. I feel like i won't really know for sure until my kids are fully grown! (Despite all my blabber about raising them well in the free-rent thread Wink )

If you could spend one day with anyone from pg.org, who would it be & what would you do?

Ooooh. That is tough! I think it would be Laurie. I like the way she thinks and I think we have a lot in common. I don't know what we'd do! I'm not a good planner. Smile I enjoy low key...a place where we could talk and get to know each other and the kids could meet and play freely.

If you could ask someone in your life one question & be sure to get an honest answer with no reprecussions, what would it be?

I want to know from my brother why he and his wife fell out of love after 20 years. He was very tight lipped about it and my sister in law seemed hurt and confused. And no one saw it coming. I love my brother and he is not a bad man, so i want to understand. (FTR there was no cheating involved)

Do you paint your toenails, get a regular pedicure, or leave them au natural?
I paint them myself in the summer when they are showing a lot. I usually wait too long and the paint starts to wear off and look bad before i redo them. I've gotten a pedicure about 4 times in my life. Last time was with my MIL, SIL and a family friend and i had fun. I'd be up for that once in a blue moon. Too expensive to do regularly and i don't love it quite that much.

What looks best on me? I think reds and maroons, which i own very little of. What gives me the most confidence? Blacks and Grays.

What is one personality trait from each of your kiddos that you adore?
Emma, her rational level-headed-ness
Aodhan, his emerging geeky interest in technology and science
Lillian, her thoughtfulness of others
Nathalie, how easy going she is
Cecilia, I think it will be her autonomy and independance. Hard to tell yet!

What is your dream car?
Hmmm, i don't dream much about cars. But i really would love to drive around a shiny bright colored mini cooper.

Do you have any good life advice?
Remind yourself often of the good fortune you have in life. Especially in the form of the really small things that add small pleasures to life....and the big things that are often overlooked and taken for granted.

Thanks for the questions so far everyone!

If you had to choose a different career what would you choose?

I don't know. Something with more people contact, that part i do know. And something that doesn't require me to sit on my butt all day. I'v been spending a lot of time thinking about what career is really the best fit for me and i can't find anything that seems right. I do love sociology, it was my minor. Anyone know what you can do with sociology? Anyone? Smile

If you could be a SAHM and continue in your exact same financial position would you?
Yes i would. I've been really down about my work lately. I would love an out. But if i did stay home, I think I'd probably try to start a small business. Nothing super lucrative, probably something crafty related that i could put my heart into.

Blueberries or Rasberries?
Good god don't tell all the Mainers around me here...but Raspberries. Actually the small Maine wild blueberries are pretty tremendous and i put them a close second to raspberries...with the giant honkin blueberries third. (still like them though!)

Comfortable or Cute shoes for date nights?

Comfortable AND cute! The two are not mutually exclusive! Biggrin I will only give up a minor amount of comfort to obtain a little more cuteness, but not the other way around. I do not own a single pair of true high heels.

I skipped again! Sorry Tracey. I'm bad at this!

Have you lived with any regrets that you wish you could have a do-over?
Probably my career choice. I feel trapped by it now because its high paying and given this point in time i can't really just take a huge paycut to pursue something else.

Also, i hurt a friend in college and I still feel bad about that. If i could do it over, i wouldn't have done that. However that may have changed the path my future took so, the thought is a bit scary!

What is your biggest pet peeve ever?
Attention Seeking Behavior.

If you had to move to a different country, which one would it be and why?
I think I'd try Germany or France. I enjoyed visiting both countries and from what i understand, i'd like to try out their way of living. Plus being in Europe, i think it would be cool how close you are to other countries to visit!

What childhood memory stands out the most that has been influential in how you are as a parent?
Have i ever mentioned i have a really bad memory? I seem to remember very few specific events from my childhood. Its very odd and very frustrating. I feel broken or something! What influenced my parenting though would be watching my brothers raise their kids. I got to see what they did, how they did it and how things turned out. I remember thinking along the way "I'm def doing that", or "I'm not going to do that!"

Examples would be
I'm def going to keep them involved in various structured activities
or
I'm def never going to do my homework for my kids ever
or
I'm def never going to yell at them for so much and so many little things that they just tune me out
or
I'm def not going to overmphasize material things.

Favorite form of exercise/activity?
I go to the gym three days a week. I do studio classes with my MIL and SIL. One cardio class and two cardio/weight combo classes. I think i'm going to add another cardio once a week. I really should do more because i sit on my butt all day while i'm working but, honestly, this has been the first time i have routinely exercised in my life...so its a start. I've been going for about 6 months now.

What would you change about your house?
Our house is really new and we drew up the plans ourselves so fortunately there isn't too much i would change. I would make our bedroom bigger and i would like one more room, to use as an office/den. Maybe someday!

BUT, i started looking at these yesterday: http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com/houses/ Seamus and i said maybe when the kids move out we would do this instead (probably one of the small houses, not the tiny houses) So i really shouldn't be thinking about expanding!

Check out the video about how this guy started the company too. Its really interesting. http://vitality.yahoo.com/video-second-act-jay-shafer-20910192

We found a builder up here in Maine that also specializes in small houses. I find the concept appealing in many ways. Just not sure if I'm hardcore enough to change my lifestyle that much.

What's for dinner?
I am not the cook in the house. I really don't enjoy cooking! But Seamus started taking Guitar Lessons on Thurs. nights which means that it falls to me! We will be having breakfast for dinner tonight. Eggs, some chicken sausages, toast and whatever fruit we have lying around! (I am capable of better, but thats all i feel like doing tonight!)

Did anyone ask if you have a pet?
Nope...and i don't think we want one. However about a month ago, we found a kitten in our driveway...cutest friggin kitten you've ever seen. Seamus and I had decided pretty quickly we wouldn't keep it. Fortunately his sister and his fiance took it in! They live about 2 hours south of us. I have had some weak moments since then and i think at some point i might break down and get a cat. I really like cats and I"m home alone all day so it might be good company Smile

Not very deep, I know. Smile
Thats ok! I like deep and non-deep equally Smile

Kim - I have heard of those tiny houses before. I know someone else that wants to live in one. They look very interesting to me, but yes, a HUGE change in lifestyle.

What were you like when you were in high school?

Do you have any hobbies other than knitting?

How many brothers and sisters do you have?

Are you close with your family?

Describe your favorite outfit.

Describe your living room.

Least favorite household chore?
Dishes. I hate dishes!

Least favorite food?
There are very few foods that i can truly say i do not like. zucchini and yellow squash are ones i can genuinely say i do not enjoy.

Are your (non-virtual) friends mostly a lot like you, or are they very different?
I think they are pretty similar to me for the most part. Kind of geeky, good thinkers that can discuss strange topics, enjoy a good beer, and lots of laughs

Who is your closest friend?
Excluding family members, my friend Mark. We worked together at a company and got to know eachother really well there. We then moved to another company together and started working there the same day, along with another co-worker (we were all fleeing potential lay-offs) Even though we don't live near each other anymore, i still talk to him most days.

I really need to find some good friends here though. I've found it hard to find my crowd yet!

Yes I do. Oh wait, that wasn't a question. Sorry!

What is your favorite dish to cook?
Chicken Enchiladas. A lot of work to do them the right way, but i do it well and they are just sooooooo good.

What is your favorite home cooked meal to eat?
Shepherd's Pie I think.

What is one of your go to dishes when you aren't really in the mood to cook?
Breakfast for dinner! Eggs, Breakfast Burritos or Egg sandwiches.

How often do you eat out?
Not all that often because its so expensive with the entire family. Maybe once a month? I'm talking sit down and eat in the restaurant type going out. I'd go once a week though if i could afford it. I love eating out.

What is your favorite restaurant?
Mediterraneo in Providence, RI Good memories, went there many times with my hubby when we were in college. Good food. Hmmm, although Penang in Boston might probably ties it.

What is your favorite restaurant dish?
Mee Siam at Penang. YUM

If you have to do fast food, where do you go?
I would say Wendy's is my first choice. I wish we had better fast food choices around here though.

Name 3 random food items that you hate/would never eat.
There is almost nothing that I would refuse to eat. Bugs...and thats about it.
Even though i said i hate zucchini and yellow squash up above...i'd still eat it, or at least some of it. I've tried some very strange foods over the course of my lifetime!

How adventurous of an eater are you when it comes to trying new/different foods?Oops Smile See above i guess! Very adventurous

Some of the stranger things I've eaten:
Duck feet
Duck Tongue
Diniguan (LOVE IT)
Balut (Didn't care for it but i'd probablly try it again because its been so long
Baby Octopus
Gator

really....i will try almost anything. Except insects or anything that looks insect like (think scorpions). But even then, if you ground it up so it didn't look so bug like anymore, i could probably do it.

Oh, and nothing alive! I won't eat anything that is still moving.

What were you like when you were in high school?
I was a nerd/geek and i lacked a lot of self confidence. I found it hard to make good friends and i found a lot of people to be very disingenuous. I was pretty studious and always got good grades. Despite my social stresses i didn't shut down....i was involved in several activities. I played volleyball, kept score for the softball team, heavily involved in theater all four years, service club, math club and some other things here and there. By my senior year i made a great group of friends and had a lot of fun...my summer after my senior year was one of the funnest times i remember. So it all turned out fine in the end Smile I think high school was very character building for me.

Do you have any hobbies other than knitting?
No, not really Smile None that i pursue in depth. I actually enjoy photography and love taking pictures, but i haven't taken the time to learn how to do it in depth. I think i'm pretty good at it though for not really knowing what I"m doing! My next goal is to learn how to sew.

How many brothers and sisters do you have?
I have four brothers and 1 sister. There is a 10 year gap between me and the rest of them...all from the same marriage though. I was a big OOPS! My mom was 41 when she had me.

Are you close with your family?
Yes I'm very close to my family! We aren't all great about keeping in touch but we are still close and for the most part we all know whats going on in everyones lives. But my family is plagued with emotional drama. My mom suffers, without a doubt, from undiagnosed depression and it has caused lots of problems over the years. And i have on brother whos wife and kids have created crazy drama...we don't see him very often and is more distant than the rest of us, but still do once in a while.

We were all actually together two weekends ago for my nieces high school graduation. Its a big deal because we aren't usually all home at the same time, three of us live away. Here's a picture of me(I'm in the purple), my sister, brothers and parents:

Describe your favorite outfit.
To go out...i have a pair of skinny jeans right now that i love the way they fit and a charcoal gray tank top made out of some drapery material with ruffly cap sleeves. Its easy to dress up and accessorize. I have a pair of rocket dog light gray ballet flats, that are very comfortable that i love.

Describe your living room.
Small and intimate. Has a coffee table in it that i'm deathly afraid Cecilia is going to crack her head open on (you'd think i'd do something about that wouldn't you?) . We have a flat screen tv, but not a giant honkin one, its medium sized. We have a brown leather chair that i like and an old beat up red sofa that is on the list to be replaced some day. Its very messy during the week (magazines, toys, a couple of dishes or glasses). The couch is where i work from during the day so its a well lived in space. I would really like to redo this room at some point. OH and its in desperate need of wall decorations! Just haven't gotten to that point yet.

Thanks for the questions ladies. Keep 'em coming!

I'm jealous! I just think it would be a fun little car to have! Is his a convertible? I'd be even more jealous.

Do you have nice feet?
HATE my feet! They are not pretty. I have long skinny crooked toes. And i have a bad bunion on my right foot. I think when Cecilia is a bit older, I'm going to have surgery done. They are genetic in my family. My mom has one and my grandma did too. Its just going to get worse as i get older, and mine hurts. My mother's never hurt, but it really deformed her foot.

You're pretty, did you know that?
Aw thanks! You know, I think i feel prettier and better about myself in my thirties than i did when i was in my twenties. Not really sure why though or what changed.

What personality trait about yourself would you like to improve?
My temper. I really wish i could kick that down a notch.

When is the last time you played with Barbies?
Gosh its been years and years. Not since I was a kid. I probably did it a few times as a teenager. I didn't play with my barbies often though when i think about it.

But i had this cool barbie house that my sister made me out of an old box my weeble wobble fun house came in. I thought that was pretty cool.

Milk, white, or dark chocolate?
DARK no contest!

Thanks Melissa! That would be the Patriots. Football is my favorite sport.

As demonstrated by my brother's t shirt in my family picture...i come from a family of mostly Packer fans. However i did not grow up loving football, baseball and basketball were my favorites back then. I learned to love football in college.

And these days i can hardly stand to watch the NBA, and i can't get a Yankees game up here...they're illegal.

Do you think that Haynesworth is going to be a plus, or a minus to your team this year?

Do you think that Belichick is a cheater?

Do you think that the Phillies are better than the Yankees Smile

This Pats team is going to be like Coach/Player relationship rehab this year. I think Haynesworth will be a big plus under Belichick. Same with OchoCinco. I'm not really a big fan of players that seem to need major attitude adjustments, but I still think it could work out really well for them. I can't wait for football season!

Do you think that Belichick is a cheater?
Eh. No, i don't think he's deserving of an overall label of cheater. I think he violated a rule...he's paid for it and overall its an ugly spot on a very respectable and accomplished coaching career.

Do you think that the Phillies are better than the Yankees Smile
You mean this year or in general?
No and no Wink

Love your schizo RedSox Hating/Pats Lovin friend.

Does the fact that he changed his name to "OchoCinco" make you snort the way it makes me snort? Blum 3
