Nope. They should have tattooed it on her forehead.

I agree. This is way less than what I would give her.

Her earrings make my ears hurt.

Before clicking the link, I thought maybe she was trying to avoid hitting the bus and *accidentally* drove up on the sidewalk (which would still be a stupid move since kids were likely to be there) -- but this? It was a deliberate act.

I'm curious whether this was not the first time since the bus driver appears to be prepared to video tape her and for what her actions are going to be before she actually is where she would be expected to stop or am I viewing it incorrectly?

I was wondering about that too. It seems like if it was such an issue that he knew to take the recorder out that she would have changed either her route or the time?

I don't think they were harsh enough personally. I think she should have to do that for at least two weeks.

I had that feeling too, because not only was he ready to tape it but the police were parked down the street ready to stop her. I bet she had done it before. Either that or there had been problems with people not stopping for the bus in that area.

I read this elsewhere and I do believe she was known to do this. They were waiting for her and I'm okay with that.

I watched the video again and you can tell it is actually from two different times. The first time the car is coming up to the bus alone, and the second time there is a car in front of her that stops and she goes around that car too and onto the sidewalk. She really deserves the idiot of the year.

Wow. I can't believe how brazen she is about it. No hesitation, lots of other people around, what a piece of work.

Not sure how useful making her stand on the corner with a sign really is. I don't care for the punishment really.

I think they should have taken her car away and replaced with a segway. Much better for sidewalks.

Oh no, no Segways on sidewalks, please. Those things are so awful and the people riding them never seem to care about pedestrians.

I saw that on the news last night and they said the bus driver had witnessed the same driver do this on multiple occasions, and he had approached the police about setting up a sting to catch her in the act. Good for him! And she got off easy IMHO, I think one day for every time she was seen doing that would be a good start.

Well, it's a weird punishment. I think a more befitting punishment would be something more conventional like community service and spending some time in the pokey.

I think the punishment fits the crime, and the publicity it got is very good to deter others who might be thinking about driving around a school bus to think twice before doing so.

I don't know it just seems so unsophisticated and a bit of a silly punishment for a proper government to be handing out. It just seems like there has to be better alternatives.

She clearly did this act in front of everyone. She has no class already. She has no sense of shame already. I don't think overall we have a problem with this sort of behavior to try to deter the whole U.S. from this crime.

eta, I don't know how much of a problem driving around the school buses there is a problem. I was referring to sidewalk driving.

Actually you would be amazed how many people do it. They may not go as far as driving on the sidewalk, but they are not stopping. Some places are even installing cameras on the buses to catch people.

The Cobb School District has equipped 102 of its 1,120 school buses with cameras that take video and still images of drivers violating the stop arm law.

After reading this new article I am even more convinced that they used the right punishment. Some people just need an alternative kind of punishment to wake them up.

Lisa Kelley, whose 9-year-old daughter boards the bus which Hardin had been passing on the sidewalk, said the sentence fit the crime.

"She's an idiot, just like the her sign says," Kelley said as she watched Hardin lean against a fence, her head down and her eyes hidden by dark glasses.

"She did this almost every day last year," Kelley said. "She won't stop laughing. She's not remorseful, she laughed at every court appearance. She's still laughing, so she needs to be humiliated like this."

Honestly, i don't think it fits at all...

a)It sounds like other people are getting enjoyment out of it, more-so than her being taught anything

b)if she is that brazen about doing it, laughing when people tell her she is wrong and really making a spectacle of herself, she sounds like an attention seeker...putting someone on display is not the right punishment for an attention seeker. Negative attention is still attention
