If you had been on this cruise ship, would you ever want to take a cruise again?
In the most ideal of conditions, the very last kind of vacation I would ever take would be a cruise. I go on vacation to get away from people, not to be stuck on a floating island of several thousand people in very close proximity. No thanks. However, if I was inclined to get on this particular ship I would never, ever, ever get on another cruise line again. Raw sewage dripping from the ceiling? Just imagine that for days on end. No thanks. It would be deserted beaches for me from that point onward.
Hmmm, I've never been on a cruise, so it's hard to say, but I'm guessing cruises would be ruined for me from that point on. I can only imagine how bad those conditions must have been.
Like CM, I have no desire to be on a cruise ever and this would have really pushed me over the edge.
One of my friend's parents were aboard that ship. She drove over there yesterday from Dallas to pick them up. If it were me I don't think it would happen for awhile, but I think I would go again especially since they are getting a free cruise. The chances of the same thing happening again are pretty slim.
I saw that after all that they went through one of the buses taking people from Mobile to New Orleans broke down. Those poor people have the worst luck.
Kinda similar, but not a cruise...
My parents went to Costa Rica a few years ago and they stayed at this super luxury Occidental hotel. Anyway, I guess in Costa Rica they don't have plumbing and treating for raw sewage the way we do and it's stored in these huge poop silos. Then the hotel is supposed to pay a trucking company to pump it and take it away. Well I guess there was no place to take the poop or whatever so the hotel shut off the water every night from 12 - 5 am and then every afternoon from 12 - 5pm so that people wouldn't be able to flush toilets. So, here's all these guests with overflowing toilets and they're not even able to wash their hands for 10 hours a day and they're all eating from the same buffet at meals. When my dad went to swim in the ocean a local ran up and said not to swim there because he was downstream from where the hotel was dumping raw sewage into the ocean, and that he needed to go way way way upstream. My parents both came home with pneumonia and lots and lots of people got sick. There was some sort of class action and everyone got reimbursed.
We enjoy cruising, actually leaving on one Sunday ;)
I think if this was my first cruise, I would never go again, but if I had other cruise experiences that I liked, I might consider it.
I actually feel quite the opposite when I am on a cruise (and I have probably been on about 20 or so ---we live 50 minutes away from a port). With the exception of the first day, I usually feel pretty isolated on a cruise. I'm not a 'joiner' so I'm usually off on a deck reading a book and rarely encounter crowds (at the pool, casino, etc) It is one of my favorites things about a cruise is how quiet it can be for me. ;)Quote:

My ILs were on a cruise several years ago (mid 90s) that also lost power due to a fire...it was brutal for them. They were also given a free cruise, and the finally took it about 5 years ago. So it took them a LONG time to get over the first experience.
