JonBenet Ramsey Judge Orders Grand Jury Documents Released - ABC News

Should the records be released? Why bring it out if the parents have been cleared? Any other thoughts?

I've always thought the family was involved but I don't really care anymore. That case was botched so badly right from the start. I've never understood why the police didn't search the house completely as soon as they got there. Why did let the dad go rummaging around alone looking for her, why wasn't he accompanied, or why didn't they do the looking if he remembered a place that hadn't been searched? The dad should have been charged with tampering with evidence or disturbing a crime scene or something like that. Maybe if he hadn't disturbed the body and the crime scene, they might have been able to find a killer. And they did a handwriting analysis on both parents, which showed that neither of them wrote the note, but why didn't they do a handwriting analysis with the mom's left hand, which she was known to use on occasion? Obviously there's no smoking gun in the grand jury records or there would have been a trial before now. So what's the point, except morbid curiousity?

I agree with Stacey.....gut feeling was family was involved but I haven't ever figured out how or what level and at this point....not sure it matters anymore.

I thought it was odd that they brought it out now as well. What was the point in saying he was once a suspect? Everyone knew that. If he was later found to not be involved, why drag him through the mud even more unless there is more to the story?

I'm not sure he was found "to not be involved," only that his DNA wasn't where they expected to find it if he was the one who had sexually assaulted her. That doesn't mean he didn't kill her, or didn't sexually assault her, only that he was very careful about it. His DNA was all over her. He was her dad, he'd given her a bath, he was the one who carried her dead body out of the house, etc.

Not sure what the end goal is by opening the indictment. If I remember well, the indictment never went anywhere because there was not enough evidence. What will looking through the indictment do?

There are a lot of reasons to do it. The Ramseys were indicted for child abuse and the statute of limitations is up for those charges, but there is no statute of limitations on murder. This unsealed information might spur someone's memory. It might bring to light inconsistencies in stories that have changed over the years. It might make a guilty person who has gotten away, quite literally, with murder for nearly two decades to have a fresh new wave of guilt and either make a confession or trip up somehow and get caught.

There was a "cold case" in New York involving a dead little girl, Baby Hope, that was solved recently when it was re-publicized 20 years later. A woman called police and said a friend of hers had told her years ago that her baby sister had gone missing, but they always thought the dad had taken her because he went missing at the same time. The friend put two & two together, the missing sister was about the same age, same time missing, and she knew the friend's mom had lived in New York, and she called police. She didn't know the family back when it happened, but she had the information 20 years later needed to solve the case.

Nothing like guilty until proven innocent. I do not know what happened to the little girl or who was responsible, but how terrible to have everything drug back up again if they did not do it.

First off, the mom is dead so none of us need to worry about how she feels. And I think if the dad and brother are truly innocent, then they should welcome this opportunity for a fresh look at the evidence, for fresh eyes to view it, because this might be when someone can finally be able to put the missing piece in place so that the killer of their daughter & sister can be brought to justice. And if they aren't innocent, then it's the same thing. I hope someone can see something in this new evidence that can help finally bring justice for Jonbenet.

I think if they are going to release those 4 pages they should go ahead and release it all. I don't think the father would be trying to get them to release the rest of it if he had anything to hide,

On Friday, an attorney for John Ramsey and his family urged the district attorney to publicly open "the entire grand jury record and not just 4 pages from an 18-month investigation that produced volumes of testimony and exhibits."

The released indictments "are nonsensical," said attorney L. Lin Wood. "They reveal nothing about the evidence reviewed by the grand jury and are clearly the result of a confused and compromised process. The Ramsey Family and the public are entitled to the benefit of the full and complete record, not just a historical footnote. Fairness dictates that result."

Wood, in a statement, said the grand jury didn't have what was later to be "the conclusive 2008 DNA testing that led to the unequivocal, public exoneration of the Ramsey Family by the Boulder District Attorney."
