A heartbreaking piece about what parents who don't accept their children's sexuality do to them. All in the name of Jesus, in this case. I don't think that Jesus would want this boy dead, I just don't. And it is SO sad that his parents had to learn that lesson too late. My heart breaks for them.

I'm reading Dan Savage's new book "Savage America." Love it. Anyway, he has a standing invitation to some of the prominent Conservative pundits that are still insisting it's a choice in 2013 - if it's a choice, go ahead and choose it, and come...er....well, have a party in Dan's pants. Prove to the world that you can just flip that switch at will. He will allow them to get it on tape even, so everytime one of us says "It's not a choice!" they can point to the video and say "It totes is! Did you see that vid of me having sexy time with Dan Savage? I chose that." Nobody has taken him up on it yet. So I think the same should go out to everyone else who claims it's a choice. If it's that easy, go ahead and choose it. Prove it to us.
I've never defined myself solely by my sexuality, and I don't know any gay people who do either. For you to imply that gay people do that is really weird.
That's from your link. What does that have to do with sex?Quote:
Today, celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia and concerts, and LGBT Pride Month events attract millions of participants around the world. Memorials are held during this month for those members of the community who have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.
LGBT History Month is also celebrated with annual month-long observances of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history, along with the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements. National Coming Out Day (October 11), as well as the first “March on Washington” in 1979, are commemorated in the LGBT community during LGBT History Month.
What on earth does that have to do with only defining oneself by SEX???
Are you implying that because we have a black history month black people can and do ONLY identify themselves as being BLACK. Not as mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, Americans etc? Wow. Hardcore, even for you, Gloria!
I'm pretty sure that even if I never have sex again (a proposition that sometimes seems likely between working, new baby, getting ready to sell our house, et cetera) I will still be straight. That won't be the whole of my identity, but it will be a facet of my identity, totally aside from whether or not I am having sex with anyone.
Same way that many gay people identify as gay (among many other facets of their identity) but it doesn't have much to do with the actual sex act. You can be gay and be a virgin, or be gay and be in a really long dry spell, or whatever. It's not all about sex. It's about who you are attracted to (yes, for sex, but for other stuff too. My relationship with my husband is a lot bigger than our sex lives. So too for gay people.)
