NAD: how long to keep sliced raw potatoes in the fridge?

I sliced some raw potatoes on Wednesday night when I was making homemade pizza. We didn't use them all for the pizza so I put the leftovers into a container in the fridge covered with water. I changed the water on Friday morning and again on Saturday night. The potatoes seem fine tonight (Sat) and I'm hoping to make hash browns from them for breakfast tomorrow. DH & DD are a bit queasy on the idea since they've been in the fridge so long. Tiven asked how I would know if they went bad, and I said that I thought they would smell sour. She said she thought things could go bad without smelling sour. I can accept that logic in principle, but for some reason I don't think it applies to sliced raw potatoes kept in fresh water. Anyone know for sure? This brilliant girl of mine has conceded that someone on Pg.org probably knows better than some general doofus posting something that comes up on a Google search.

I don't know for sure but I know I have read 3-5 days when in water unless of course they smell.

Potatoes should smell if going bad.

Potatoes smell nasty when they go bad. Not sure about keeping them in the fridge, but they smell like something died when they go bad in the cupboard, I would think the same in the fridge.

I only know what Google tells me. About almost everything.

Well, on Sunday morning they were nasty. It wasn't a sour smell but definitely a "don't eat this!" kind of smell. Maybe like when meat starts to go bad?
