    Default NAD - Mattresses

Opinions on the best mattress out there?

We bought a Simmons Beautyrest set on Saturday. Hopefully it will come today. We also tried the TempurPedic plush, but it's $2500. The Simmons set was 55% off for $1000. We have 6 months to test drive it and if we don't like it we're going to upgrade to the TempurPedic. We need firm, but not like you're sleeping on concrete. DH's back is not great and I have a bit of bursitis in my hips so something really firm makes my hips hurt.

    Any suggestions? TIA
    Lisa

We were gifted the TempurPedic because my brother decided to become a yacht boy right after buying his and they obviously don't need them. Anyway-

the good-so comfortable. I have yet to wake up because I'm uncomfortable like I have with past mattresses.
the Bad-Even with the mattress cover and sheets, I worry that the material is collecting germs
the ugly- It sleeps hot. I love pajamas and being covered up, but that just doesn't work and we leave the house about 68-70 in the winter. It probably wouldn't be as bad in Canada as it is in South Mississippi.

LOVE your new signature! They are so very adorable!

We bought a really nice ~ and very firm~ stearns and foster like 2.5 years ago. My husband picked it out (he's picky, I think I could sleep on the floor pretty easily). After listening him complain about it for about a year (i swear, almost every day)......we bought a tempurPedic about a year ago. I LOVE it. We got the pillows too and even though I *could* sleep on the floor, I love sleeping on this thing. He is a foot taller and 110 lbs heavier than me, and we both love the thing. Well worth the investment. I agree with lillie that it does sleep hot, but we keep our house cool (the kids all have down comforters on their beds) at 67 and it works for us. DH has a dust mite allergy so we have one of those hypoallergenic wraparound cover things around both the mattress and the box spring. I will say if you decide that you don't like what you got now, make SURE you get rid of it within the time period ~ used mattresses aren't worth a dime (at least, around here), we learned. We got lucky and ended up *trading* ours to our babysitter (it was a king, and essentially brand new) for some vacation babysitting time, but otherwise we would have pretty much been donating it to goodwill.

No, you're probably right about Canada being nowhere near as hot as MS...lol. But, I'm like going through this peri-menopausal thing (at 41....boo) so I'm hot all.the.time. It sucks. We bought this memory foam mattress for our spare room and then put it in our room when we pitched our crappy old mattress a couple weeks ago. It is soooooooooo hot. I can feel the heat radiating up from the mattress. I like being covered too, but need the fan on and one foot sticking out of the covers. Both my parents and my bro/SIL have TempurPedics and they rave, but IDK, I just think it would be too hot for me. The Simmons has 3 inches of 'cooling memory gel' on top. It actually feels cool to the touch. They made us buy a protective cover that has this Gore-Tex kind of lining so nothing gets into the mattress - while we're on the 6 month test drive. Thanks about the siggy. I've had it for a while but don't turn it on very often. This one was an oops! They are getting so bit, it's scary.

We laid on a few Stearns & Foster and both of us could feel every movement of the other. On the TP and the Simmons we could barely feel any movement at all. With our 6 month trial, we can take it back to the store and trade up for something else without losing any money!

Ours is a local Denver brand, so I'm not sure if it is even available in Canada.

I did want to weigh in though, that the #1 mattress I would NOT recommend are those awful sleep number beds. I have slept on them in a few hotels, and they are NOT good. They have a hard frame around each side (including a frame that goes down the middle so each person can "have their own number".) But what that means is that either the hard part is raised a little (if you have a low sleep number) kind of trapping you in your little coffin shaped pit, or the hard part is lowered (if you have a high sleep number), so you kind of tend to roll onto it because now the mattress is sloped towards it. And did I mention that it's hard? What an awful idea those beds are. *Shudder*

Alissa I am so glad you have an opinion on that bed! Sorry that it sucked for you, but glad about knowing what they're like. I suggested the Sleep Number to DH because our needs are a bit different. I thought that maybe it would work for us, but after reading what you said I don't think we'll go in that direction. thanks!

Sorry! I mean, if they give a free trial maybe it's worth checking into. It could be that I'm just too dumb to use a mattress properly. LOL! But seriously, every time I have slept on one, no matter how much adjusting I do, it's been bad.

We have a Sleep Number and love it-- lol. My dh likes a really soft/squishy mattress and I like mine firm-- so 5 years ago we bought a Sleep Number with the pillow top. It has been awesome for us. You can feel the frame if you roll from his side of the bed to mine, but that is bc he literally sleeps with his number at 15 and mine at 35 (his is like a hammock, which he likes.....)

At my parents' house we have a Denver Mattress and love that. My brother loves them, too, and has them delivered to Nashville from Colorado.....

Happy shopping. I think mattresses are so important and worth every penny for a good one!
