I agree that the stocking stuff can add up. Santa shopped at Justice this year, and though he hit the sales it was still about $25/kid. My girls got earrings and a matching necklace (kiddie jewelry), lip gloss, a mini-notebook with pen, body wash and body spray from B&BW, and hairbows. We don't do candy in the stockings. We still have a huge pot left over from Halloween!

I am not allowed to put socks in the stockings. This year DD got the idea about "naughty and nice" from a christmas carol. She told us that nice kids get toys in their stockings and naughty kids get clothes - like socks and underwear - in their stockings. If I put in socks she will think she was naughty. She came up with it all by herself. It was really cute, but blew the joy of socks.

    Agreed!

Our kids both have summer birthdays, so for birthday and Winter Solstice, they each get three gifts: something they want, something they need, and something we want them to have. Or: something to wear, something to play with, and something to learn from. Never all toys, though, and we always make sure they open the "boring" thing first. Sometimes I'll put multiple things in one gift, like three outfits in one box or two games wrapped up together. I don't limit myself to the same dollar amount per child, but I do try to keep things fair. Santa fills stockings. I spent about $200 total on both kids for Winter Solstice, including stockings, and then another $40 on a few little stocking stuffers for DH, MIL, and myself. That $200 included some shipping charges because I did it all online & couldn't find enough things at any one store to avoid it.

Jace got a decent amount of stuff but def not 20 or 30 things. His birthday being Dec 27, I normally divide the gifts up from me, Santa, and then 2 things from me for his bday. It's tough having a holiday birthday.

Holiday birthdays are hard. I am dec 10, DD is dec 17, DH is dec 31 and BIL is jan 9. So with christmas that is a major celebration every week for a month. It is tough.

Not to mention, he would like to have a bday party. Now I have to try to find the money for that and hope we can celebrate it in January. He may have to wait until February. Uuuugh.

December birthdays are hard. DH's birthday was December 30th. Not only is his birthday right near Christmas, he is also a twin. Trying to have a birthday party for him is impossible, because all of his close friends go out of town for Christmas.

We are doing DD's kid party in the first week of december or the last week of november. It is early, but we really want her to have celebration of just her birthday with no christmas involved. Her actual birthday ends up being just one of many days of celebration. We even ended up sharing birthday dinners between her and I this year because it was just too much to do them separately.

I agree that Holiday Birthday's are hard! Seamus' is Dec. 30th. His mother said that she always tried to make the effort to take the tree down and make it a completely separate celebration every year just so he never felt like his birthday was skipped over.

I've always tried to be good about that too...admittedly this year was kind of glossed over, we drove home from NY on his birthday and never really celebrated. Fortunately he seemed to not care too much, but i still feel bad about it!

Cecilia's is Jan 10th. Just soon enough afterwards to totally catch us off guard. I feel like Christmas just ended and her birthday is next week! Ack.
