Right? Like only poor people need financial counseling.
I'd love to see financial counseling for people on HERE! Do you know how many posters have admitted to having no will! Parents, of multiple children, with NO WILL! No estate planning at all? No LIFE INSURANCE or disability insurance? Yet they are judging others and their dolla dolla bill, yo.
I wouldnt. I do assume that people on assistance wish to get off assistance at some point. I know I would anyways. I know many people, including myself, make bad financial decisions without even knowing they are bad. All I am saying is I would like people on assistance to have the opportunity to have an expert look over their finances and help them make a plan to get back in the 'black' so to speak. Unlike some people on here I actually think that the majority of people dont enjoy taking handouts and would prefer to be self sufficient. I think it would be in every bodies best interest to help them achieve that.

Sorry everyone, I'm serial posting. I keept forgetting about the multiquote feature!!!
Anyway, while I feel like your heart is in the right place, financial counseling for people on assistance should be an opt in option if it ever was part of receiving assistance. I doubt it would ever happen because it would be too expensive.. Unless the financial advisers did it on the side as volunteer services.
Yeah....a will.....I totally have one...
Seriously, I'm doing it soon. It's just one of those things we have talked about but then never set the time to do it.
Life insurance, disability insurance etc....covered.![]()
Sorry, I did say 'have the opportunity.', I thought that implied the option. Obviously there are people who are on assistance temporarily and know it is only for a short amout of time. BUt I do think that even someone who has been layed off and is looking for a new job, or even working at below their usual pay grade because they are still searching for something better, would welcome some advise on how to make what they have last longer, or perhaps the news would be to go back to school to upgrade etc. I get that it might be an offensive suggestion to some people, that just because they are on assistance they arent handling their money correctly, but all it would really take would be a short consultation to confirm that they are already doing all they can. I just dont see how that could hurt, and wish someone would do it for me
I do get that its kind of a pie in the sky idea, but I would be interested in seeing a study done on whether it would make a difference to how long people are typically on assistance. Maybe if it makes enough of a difference it would be worth it in the long run.

I would wager a guess that most people in this country could use some financial counseling.
I know one family on assistance, maybe I know more, but none that have openly disclosed there situation to me. This family would love some financial counseling, they were living pretty fat when the economy was great and have lost everything. I know that if a program were put in place, they would be the first to sign up. They do not want to be on assistance forever
(The wife is sooooo close to her masters in teaching, so they are really on their way to being self sufficient)
