Yes we are. This debate is not about buying lottery tickets with their own money. It is about not allowing them to buy lottery tickets with government assistance money. I agree you can do whatever you want with your own money.

Rep. Paul "Skip" Stam, R-Wake is helping draft the legislation. Stam told ABC11 the vendor selling the lottery ticket would be penalized if they knew the person was on welfare or in bankruptcy.

No, it puts the onus on the store owner to determine if the person is on welfare or in bankruptcy. It's about using one's own money to buy lottery tickets.

You can't argue that some people in bankruptcy have their own source of income. Medical bills and divorce can force some people into bankruptcy. Should a newly-single parent who has to file bankruptcy be restricted from buying a lottery ticket or going out for a coffee with her friends?

Im staying at the hospital w my son who had surgery yesterday.as I bought him a balloon I thought of you, my yams. We don't receive assistance, but it's so sad you would call people on assistance who might try to cheer their sick child up with a non essential balloon "dumb loser". It's just mean.

People who choose to buy cigarettes, beer, lottos and similar instead of food for their kids are MOST DEF BIG LOSERS of the worst kind.

Perhaps you did not read what I wrote correctly. OR you just feel like fighting, I tend to agree more with the latter because that is exactly what you do and TRY to do on these boards.

For every dollar people spend on garbage stuff, that is one less dollar being spent on real food for people who desperately need real food, other people likely turned down, perhaps children of their own household because their parents are such losers that buying a couple of Red Bulls or whatever is more important than buying a chicken. Or perhaps they cashed in the money and bought some crack with it instead of food for their kids. People are hurting their own families because they have no sense of priorities or responsibilities. People rather smoke than buy their kids food. This is a fact. And the kids and others who are needy are not getting the resources they need because it's being thrown away on all we discussed. Now that is where I am coming from. And that is why dumb people need to be regulated from buying lotto, beer, cigarettes and cashed in to buy all sorts of non related to survival.

Dumb people need to be regulated from buying beer etc who are on public assistance. So YES absolutely people are DUMB among a lot of other things, who buy these garbage things instead of food and the things this money is intended to buy with their public assistance they buy beer etc.


I absolutely do NOT feel pity or softness in my heart for those people. Now who I do feel softness and desire to help are the people trying to make their lives work and do the best by themselves and their families.

So the only "losers" are those that don't use the money to put food on the table.

So you think then that Melissa's example is making you a loser. Because your statement says garbage things instead of food and what the money is intended for. I'm sure they didn't think of a balloon as a intent.

You may be speaking to things that you consider a vice but your statements are not reflecting that.

Watch the personal attacks. You have NO cause to attack me when I'm just using your words. I'm laying here In a hospital bed and you are just being ugly because everyone disagrees with you. Don't attack me because your words come across as cruel. My point was valid. A balloon for a sick child is NOT a necessity. Yet if you had seen his poor sick face light up you would have agreed it was a dollar well spent. So stick to attacking the poor an if you can't stop attacking me leave the debate and get a grip.
