But that wouldn't work. For this to work properly we need a large pool. Catastrophic plans don't cover the everyday sickness and long term illness treatments and medications.

Exactly. That is why it is a pyramid scheme and socialized medicine. They want the people who don't need coverage to pay for those that do. And who gets the most benefit? The insurance companies.

Actually I would agree with the individual mandate if people were only required to purchase catastrophic coverage instead being forced to buy a plan that includes everything but the kitchen sink. The government should not be telling me I MUST have maternity care and free birth control and mammograms. That is pure socialism to make me pay for things I don't need to cover other people that do. That isn't classic insurance. Should everyone that has auto insurance be forced to buy AAA and towing coverage?
It's not so much that they are "forced" to buy a policy that covers stuff they won't use as it is that the insurance companies must include the care. There are several standard provisions in my homeowner's insurance that I will never use. My house has zero chance of ever being uninhabitable due to snow. I have no dogs, yet dog-bite coverage is also standard.

The state requires minimum auto insurance requirements. It also requires all insurance companies to take on a certain amount of high risk drivers so that all drivers have access to car insurance. Yet I wouldn't consider it a Ponzi scheme that my insurance premiums are more likely to go toward these drivers than to me.

This is the very definition of insurance. Those who will never need it pay for those who do. Because someday you may be the one who needs it.

A young healthy 20 year old has to pay the same amount as an 80 year old.
This isn't true. When I went online to check my rates I entered various ages and the premiums were different based on my age alone. Similar to the life insurance policies I have/have had.

It's not a pyramid scheme. You clearly have no idea what either a pyramid scheme is and/or how insurance works. I think you think you know but you don't.

It's also not socialized medicine. My insurance is still paid into by me and my employer. Socialized medicine is when every gets access to health services typically paid by taxes.

Not sure the point of this. Maybe the website is having so many issues due to people "picking" on it. I swore I read somewhere yesterday that it was having issues due to people flooding it and whatnot. Too lazy to look for the link now but it's just strange to me that so many people are spending so much time trying to crash a site.

Anyway. Oh my goodness, do I wish Obamacare was socialized medicine. That'd be great! It's not though. Not even close.

The point is to know what is in it. No one has said exactly what will be covered. That website is the only way to find out.

It might be stated in the actual act itself? I have no idea as I have not read it. Just doing a quick search on Google showed me these sites:
Char-Koosta News - Affordable Care Act insurance services covered
    Affordable Care Act Summary

You do have insurance already, correct? So the ACA won't even effect you anyway. You keep your same insurance, see the same Dr, same services covered, etc.

Actually no. DH' s employer is no longer offering its own insurance. We will have to choose an Obamacare plan that they will then subsidise. Even if that was not the case, we still have the right to know what is in it.

Does that tell exact costs? How much co-pays will be for doctors visits? How much it will cost to take your child to the hospital? What it will cost per month? Those are important questions that will effect peoples lives. I have not found anyone that has gotten through to the website enough to know the answers to those questions.
