According to this report women are twice as likely to work part time. So they are the ones that will be hurt most by Obamacare when their hours are cut. That may be why they are leaving the workforce, because when their hours are cut back it may be easier for them to just go on welfare.

I'm still lost....if women are already working part time, in most cases they weren't getting insurance (I know some companies were but it's traditionally not the case.) so it wouldn't be any different now. If they are young women then they are covered under their parents until 26 even if they are married.

It Isn't about insurance for the individual worker. Obamacare as a whole is costing companies more. As a result they are cutting jobs. I believe Gloria is saying that more woman/girls hold the jobs that are being cut. It Isn't about how old they are, but that woman are more likely to have those kinds of jobs.

Employers are cutting part time HOURS so they don't have to comply with Obamacare, whether they supplied benefits before or not. Under Obamacare rules employers have to pay a penalty if they don't provide insurance on anyone working over 30 hours. So employers are cutting all part timers hours to less than 30, in addition to cutting back the number of employees they have to under 50 if they are a small business.

So lets say I am a part time employee, but I was typically working 35-38 hours a week. Now I would be cut back to typically 28 hours a week and would never be allowed to work any extra hours.

Now say I am a small business. I did pretty well last year and I am thinking about hiring someone, but I already have 49 employees. If I hire one more employee I would either have to provide healthcare for all my employees or pay a penalty for all my employees. Do you really think I am going to hire that person? Or if I have 52 employees now do you think I am not going to lay off those 2 employees to keep from paying huge penalites?

OT - question for Jessica or whoever wants to answer. The Gold plan is more an $100 more per month than we are paying now. The Bronze plan does not to me seem to cover more to me than the silver plan. Would it be more economical to get the bronze plan and put $100-$200 a month in the tax free account or to get the silver plan? Thanks

I think it is fair to say the media's love affair with Obama has officially ended.

Obama admin. knew millions could not keep their health insurance - Investigations

I will give you the real life example of my Brother In Law. He is a self employed small business owner with just a few employees. He and his wife have 7 children. He and his family had individual insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield. BCBS sent the cancellation letter and offered him different plans through their company. Any plan they offered in its place was hundreds of dollars more per month. He has spent dozens of hours trying to get through the website and phone lines. The one time he got through the website and chose a plan, BCBS told him there was no such plan. For now though, his coverage has been dropped immediately and there is nothing his family can do for health insurance until January and until the healthcare glitches are straightened out. That is several months of time where Obamacare has greatly hurt their family. There are many, many other families in the same situation.

Was it his renewal time? Did he not pay his premium? If the answer is no they cannot just cancel him. They are violation at that point.

I do not know if it was his renewal time. I do know he was sent a letter saying that his plan would no longer be offered due to not meeting the new regulations and that he could purchase a new more expensive plan through them. There will be a gap in insurance in the mean time because he has already been dropped.

ETA - I just went back and re-read what BIL wrote. It is possible I misunderstood and his current coverage might be good until the end of the year. After which, he will be without care unless he can pick a new plan on the exchanges before then.

I think you are right they are probably covered through the end of the year. I have read MANY stories about the same exact thing happening to many people. Now they have to buy new coverage by the beginning of the year for double or triple the price.

It sure would be nice if they can get this bill through to let the people who do like their coverage actually keep it like Obama promised.

House Republicans are pushing a new bill to let Americans keep their health insurance plans following revelations that the Obama administration knew millions could lose their current coverage due to changes from the Affordable Care Act.

Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., was introducing the "Keep Your Health Plan Act" in a bid to address widespread reports of people losing their current plans. CBS News reported Monday that more than 2 million Americans have already been told they can't renew their policies.

"This legislation is about providing folks the peace of mind that they will be allowed to keep their current coverage if they so choose," Upton said in a statement. The bill would allow plans sold on the market today to continue to be available.

Fox News confirmed on Monday that despite assurances from President Obama that anybody who likes their health insurance can keep it, a 2010 IRS document predicted a huge swath of customers could lose their coverage.

The document addressed a rule in the law that states individual policies purchased on or before March 23, 2010 would be "grandfathered" -- or exempt from changes required under ObamaCare. However, the provision was changed so that plans that undergo "significant changes" could lose that special status.

The IRS document estimated that "40 percent to 67 percent" of policies would in fact lose the status, meaning customers could be kicked off those plans because they don't meet minimum coverage requirements.
