Alissa! I haven't been around p.org too much, just mainly the Biggest Loser board (and now tonight finally came back to ck out the Debate board after quite some time) so I had no idea you were so close. So excited for you!

Hi Mary! Thank you! Yep, getting closer every day!

Audra - Did you plan to have the baby completely by yourself, or did it just work out that way? Were you scared to have the baby by yourself?

I keep checking here to see if you're going to post that you're going into labor.

So far, no, Rocket seems to be perfectly happy where he is. Today is my last day of work before I get two weeks before my due date off. If I go into labor early, that 2 weeks doesn't roll over to after the baby is born, so I figure it will be just my luck that I'll go into labor tonight or something, so I never get to actually take my 2 weeks off...

I hope Rocket stays put for at least another week. I always took the week before I was due off and loved that time with my older babies and time to disconnect entirely from work and focus on the birth.

I did NOT plan to have an unassisted birth. Was planning a HB with a MW. She was on her way when baby arrived so quickly. My mom and MIL were with me, and our kids were just watching--lol. I was kind of bossing the moms around, telling them what they needed to get (birth tub, towels, etc...) But really didn't freak out. Honestly, I don't think there was time to really process what was happening. And right when baby was about to be born I told my mom to get the camera (to take pics for Trey) and told MIL to get Trey on speaker phone- so he could hear the birth. It was wild.

And then for our last birth my MW promised that she wouldn't miss it. And she didn't. That one was fast, too. About 2 hours from first contraction to birth. Ick. MW arrived at 12a, baby arrived at 1240a. I don't wish a fast birth like that on anyone.....

I'm glad that you weren't all alone - that just sounds so scary to me. I can see doing a fairly unassisted HB (well, not for me, but I can see other people doing that! LOL) but doing it completely alone with no one else in the house sounds terrifying to me.

Wow, 2 hours from first contraction to birth sounds INTENSE. I want a (fairly) quick labor, but not THAT quick. When we went to the hospital last week it took us over an hour just to get there, what with packing up all of the last minute things for our bags, dropping off T, and then stopping by the school on our way there. I think I need a good 4 hours to get prepared. LOL

DS was shot out of a cannon, thought not born at home thank goodness. Contrax started at 1:30, started pushing at 2:45. DS born at 2:58.

As long as I'm delivering in a safe place and not the parking lot, I'd rather have a fast labour. On the boards I see all the people with questionable labour signs. I wouldn't want that. As far as I'm concerned, once I'm in labour I just want it over. I was concerned with my second it would be longer than my first because all my friends were in labour for days.

DD1 was 8 hours (4 at hospital, 15 minutes pushing)
DD2 (other than my water breaking 5 days before) was 90 minutes from when I said my back was bugging me. They didn't want to check me unless I was in labour and they couldn't detect contractions. One push. I was really glad I was already hospitalized because if my labour had gone like that at home, I wouldn't have made it to the hospital. As it was, my husband got there as I pushed the baby out.

My husband jokes next time he'll just phone the ambulance when I think I'm in labour so they can deliver it at our home instead of him.

Do you find it harder waiting for labour to start since your OB said you could go at anytime?
