OT - Getting to know you QOTW - 5/13

I almost spaced it this time!

Are you going anywhere for vacation this summer?

Summer is over here, but we aren'y going anywhere next summer either. I am being forced to take holidays at work over the next few months (they see 8 weeks of leave as excessive, and I've already taken 4 weeks this year to extend out my maternity leave) but hubby has no chance of getting time off. We will take DS to the zoo around his birthday though which will be in some of my time off.

We have a ton of plans. On my son's last day of school we are heading to Strasburg Pennsylvania, we have a great B&B we stay in and we go see the trains!

Then we have a weekend or two booked at my dad's in Fire Island.

In mid-August we are heading to British Columbia, for my Mom's wedding. All my siblings and their kids are coming and we are renting a big house.

Then about two weeks later, my husband and I are going away alone to celebrate our 10th anniversary....in Amsterdam!

I think that's enough.

We have quite a few plans too. I have summers off so that makes it a bit easier.

Right after the girls' recital (mid June) we're going to the beach to stay for a week. We'll be right down the road from you Lana! My inlaws are renting a huge house down there and invited us to crash it. Gotta love free vacations at the beach!

Shortly after we get back we're heading to Alana's National dance competition in Orlando. We'll be staying at the Peabody for 4 nights and just hanging out in Orlando. We'll be there for the 4th and plan on going to Disney's Boardwalk to see the fireworks.

Mid July we're heading to Tennessee for a week to camp in the mountains. We've done this twice before and it is so much fun. We go with my parents and share a campsite - they have a camper and we have a tent. Great memories!

We had such a good time in South Dakota last year that I think we are going to take another road trip there this summer in mid July. T loved it last year, and I think it will be even better this year. We also have 3 weddings this summer (3 in a row!) but that won't involve any travel. They are all in town.

I'm super jealous. I ahve always wanted the kind of family that does the big get together all in one house thing a la the movie Dan in Real Life. My family would slowly kill each other off.

Cool. We are thinking of going to Disney for the 4th. What beach are you staying at? Siesta Key?

As for us, we are Floridians so the beach and Disney for us.

We go to Manasota Key every year. You live in Sarasota right? I love the beaches there - so natural and so pretty. Last year we spent a lot of time kayaking in the bay and enjoying the dolphins and manatees.

I haven't been to Disney on the 4th since I was a kid. I imagine it'll be pretty crowded but hopefully the Boardwalk won't be too bad.

Yep. We have a ton planned. Michael gets two vacations to Germany and Hawaii for work and for two weeks while he's gone, I'll be going to Lake Charles, LA and I think for the 4th Jason and I may go to Maxwell AFB. Then we'll be in Atlanta for at least a four day trip and then North Carolina for a wedding/visit family in August. We do Disney in September and I'll probably go to Galveston, TX for a weekend in June.

AND I go on a cruise tomorrow!!!!

We used to do the big families in a house thing and then once we grew up it just kind of tapered off. I miss it. Sad

We arent going anywhere. We are hoping to talk our parents in to coming for a visit and helping us get a bunch of stuff done around the house. We need to replace our deck and get some painting done so the house is ready to sell next spring:p We cant do either of those things in the winter here.

The summer after next DH's family is planning a huge reunion so we probably wont go anywhere until then.

I love the whole family in a house thing, my grandparents had the best house for a large crew and we still go for huge family events there (although we have to spread over the town a bit now).

My nieces in Toronto are SO excited about the big house they can hardly contain themselves. We are actually flying to Toronto overnight, then all 3 families (my 2 brothers & their kids) will all fly to BC together. We are not all coming back at the same time but some of us are. Still up in the air if my sister will make it in from Bangkok but if she does she can crash with us. Smile

Don't have anything planned except for taking Jace to Dutch Wonderland and maybe to the beach for a day or two.

Deniz we are going to DW in June ~ that place is AWESOME for little kids!!!

We just got back from our kid free vacay in Cali. We don't go anywhere other than the beach in summer, generally. We are actually there now. We spend a few weeks and a lot of long weekends down here every summer. Our Oct trip is renting a big house with a bunch of friends and their kids, bringing a nanny, and partying it up down south Smile

I don't think I ever went when I was little, but I'm sure I will have fun too;)

I waited until this summer so Jace can be tall enough for majority of the rides. Maybe we will run into each other, heh!

We are going to BC at the end of July. First to Lake Koocanusa and then to Fairmont. I need to soak in the hot springs.

We just took an RV trip through Arizona (Grand Canyon, Route 66, etc...) so this summer should be more stay at home (Kind of happens with a baby due on July 2nd!). I'm hoping to spend most my summer sitting on my butt in the backyard! (Though, we might try to slip in a camping trip over Memorial day....and maybe another RV drive through the redwoods in August...all depends how the birth and recovery go).

What's Dutch Wonderland? We're not planning on going anywhere at this moment. Our oldest girls are going to Seattle over the 4th for marching band. The Lions Club sponsored their band to represent our state again, so they're very excited. DH's dad is coming from the Netherlands to visit us in August, so we may schlep everyone to SD for a bit of sight seeing. Otherwise, with the price of gas now, we're staying local. I'm totally envious about Amsterdam though. Maybe next year... we'll see since it's definitely our turn to go there.

Mark and I are going to Florida the second weekend in June alone. Then, sometime in July, we will probably do a family trip to the Gulf Coast somewhere. Mark only gets 10 days paid vacation so I may also consider taking the kids to my mom's house for a few days by myself like I did the week of Spring Break. (7.5 hour car drive.)

We just got back from the Outer Banks. DH's family all rented a huge house right on the beach. Other than that, we are buying a two room tent and are going to be camping.

It's a great pint-sized amusement park, with a big slide you ride on burlap bags, a flume, boat rides, mini roller coasters, "Grand Prix" cars, all manner of wheeled things on tracks that little kids can ride on, pony rides, some typical "Amish country" kitsch, etc. I grew up going there and have loved taking my kiddos. It's a must-see in Lancaster, PA.

Exactly, Becky. It is like spending a day surrounded by people in a milk commercial or something equally wholesome.

I don't know. We don't have much to spend since my pay was cut in December. Sad We've been making ends meet without any trouble, but haven't been able to put much away for extras. There's supposed to be a big fancy wedding on DH's side of the family in August, everyone is chatting about it being a reunion of sorts since many of them haven't seen one another for years. We got a "save the date" back in January but haven't received an invitation so I'm hesitant to make those plans. If we do that, we're going to make it our vacation and take a few extra days to have fun along the way. If not, then we'll do a couple of camping trips, although we've missed being able to book a weekend. And of course, we live in a place where people travel to for their own vacations so we'll be enjoying ourselves anyway. Blum 3 We have memberships to the Academy of Science & Bay Area Discovery Museum and we take advantage of free days at other places. And we've set up a regular weekly playdate with a couple of friends from school who will be around.

We're going to a wedding in Southern California next month. We might take the girls to Disneyland while we're down, but I'm not convinced they're old enough to enjoy it yet. I have a tentative (depending on my class schedule) girls' weekend in Vegas planned that I'm super excited about. We're going with my parents to Hawaii in September to celebrate my parents' 40th wedding anniversary and hopefully the end of chemo for my dad. I want to take the girls to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, too, so we might try to sneak in a trip there as well. I'm excited for summer, I have to say.
