Sorry that I missed it on Friday and that I was MIA last week - I had lots of family in town for my brother's wedding on Saturday and was super busy.
What did you do for the 4th?
Business as usual. The 4th is basically recovery from the 1st of July which is Canada Day here.
Kept it simple this year, no fireworks and just a small bbq with my sisters.
I was supposed to work, but I'm having some kind of weird breathing issue the past several days (probably due to all the poplar tree fluffies floating through the air), and I felt so vile I called in sick.
We packed dinner and headed to the beach at 4. We snorkled at the jetty and swam in the ocean. It was cool because we saw dolphin and manatee and tons of fish and wildlife in the rocks. Then we watched the fireworks on the beach. They were set off less then a 1/4 mile away so they went off literally over our heads. It was awesome.
I did some lesson plans, made a few playdates for later in the week, went to the bank, did some grocery shopping, and made some doctor appointments. DH went to work. The kids played in the backyard sprinkler. Normal weekday.
On July 1 (Canada Day) we had a big family BBQ with my sisters and their families. We did sparklers and fireworks in the backyard afterwards and it was a great day!
We spent the morning at a splash park with friends-- came home for naps-- and then went to another friend's house to swim in a lake, cookout and watch fireworks. It was a good day.
I had an especially good day bc we've been working really hard at restoring a 1969 Airstream-- and my dh has spent every available minute working on it the last few weeks. I begged him to return it to storage on Sunday evening so that we had Trey for the whole day, too. Yay. Eventually his work will pay off and we'll be able to camp-- maybe by mid-August .
DD 8.03, DD 6.05, DS 3.07, DD 5.09, and DS arrived 6.17.12
We spent the morning pretty close to the house, but went for a drive that turned into a hike in one of our local state parks in the afternoon. It was beautiful but soooo hot! My car said that it was 99 degrees outside. Wowsers! Even though it was shady and we brought water, T got tired and hot pretty quick, so we probably only hiked about a mile total if that. Oh well, we bought an annual pass, so we can go back when it's not quite so hot, and next time we can bring our jogging stroller which I think will work okay on the trails. This time T walked part of the way, and then DH gave him a shoulder ride the rest of the way which made it that much hotter for DH (imagine having a hot and sweaty 32 lb hat/scarf combo. LOL)
That evening we went to my mom's house for a BBQ with all of the family that was still in town for my brother's wedding. We talked about taking T to see a firework show, but he had been up late the last several nights for wedding related stuff, and he needed to get back to his regular schedule on Tuesday morning, so we decided to take him home and put him to bed at his normal bed time (8 pm). That was the plan anyway. The power went off right around bed time, which meant that he didn't have his ceiling fan or night light which seemed to throw him off. He didn't go to sleep and kept yelling for us. Then the power finally came back on, but right around the same time people started setting off fireworks which scared him and kept him up, so he still didn't go to sleep. We may as well have taken him to a show where he could at least see what all of the noise was about because he didn't end up falling asleep until like 10:30. Pshew. Long night.
Nothing too exciting here. We had a birthday party for Nathalie on July 1st and had a lot of people over so we kept the 4th low key.
I made baked beans and we had franks and beans for dinner and we went to watch the fireworks in town.
Oh...and I had to work a bunch of hours on Monday. Forgot about that. That part wasn't so much fun.

We played golf with friends in the AM and spent the afternoon having some cocktails and cooking up a feast with friends and their kids here at our house.
