- What are your kids' favorite subjects/favorite aspects about going to school? Least favorite?

If your kids are not yet in school:
- Do you plan to send them to public, private, or homeschool?

If your kids are in school:

- Private or public or homeschool? Two of my three are in preschool. My 4.5 year old goes 4 days a week and my 3.5 year old goes 3 days. "Days" are only 2.5 hours long, which is perfect for us.

- Does your life change much during the school year (as opposed to summer?) YES! I have a lot more time to run errands, decorate the house, garden etc as those things are easy with just one kid vs. three.
- What are your kids' favorite subjects/favorite aspects about going to school? Least favorite? They love the structure, and doing lots of craft projects.

If your kids are not yet in school:
- Do you plan to send them to public, private, or homeschool? We plan to send them to public school.
- Do you expect that your life will change much when they are in school? Yes! A TON. I will get way good at golf Wink and my house will be super organized. I will also be able to be a lot more involved with volunteering.

- If you had to guess from their interests/personalities now, what do you think your children will like/dislike about school?[/QUOTE] My son is going to love sports. I think that he seems to be good at Math. My daughter seems to love reading, not so much sports....though I hope that changes. They both are very social, and with them being only a grade apart, I hope that they will have a lot of the same friends and look out for one another like they do now. As to the baby? Who knows. He is built like a rugby player, that's all I know at this point Smile

My kids are in public school. I love public school. I am passionate about public school.

Yes my life changes because when school starts, so does everything else...sports, scouting, PTA. I feel like I ahve a job, I just don't get paid.

DS favorite thing in school is Gym. He is a total jock. However he is really smart, but he thinks school work is boring. DD's favorite subject is writing. She is an incredible writer.

Public school all the way! My son is in public school, my daughter will start next year when she's old enough for kindergarten. (She's in a pre-K right now but we don't have a public school version of pre-K here.)

Everything gets busier! Mornings in particular are very hectic now getting everyone ready, lunches & snacks made, etc. And then there's the homework in the evening for Nathaniel.

Nathaniel loves the socializing, and he really does love learning when it's about history or reading or social science. He's less interested in anything that involves quiet time. hah! Juliet loves the socializing and seems really proud whenever she's learned a new song or letters. Nathaniel, to my dismay, loves the hot lunch, and even though it's easier than making him something I hate what they serve, so we limit how many times a week he can have it.

I've got two in school and two still at home.

My kids attend the same private Christian school that I did. It is a great school academically and is a close knit community. Tuition is expensive, but totally worth it and something we make a priority. Fortunately it gets cheaper with additional kids, my 4th will be almost free Smile

Life is much more hectic during the school year (and only going to get crazier as the kids get older). Although it is nice spending time with just the littles, while the big kids are in school.

My DS1 is in gr. 1. He is very studious and loves everything about school. He is good at math and an amazing little artist (which is weird because neither DH or I is artistic at all!). DD1 just started kindergarten. They both love reading... Hopefully that sticks with them.

DS2 is probably going to be the class clown. He is a funny kid and, at least now, not interested in anything remotely school-ish. He will start preschool next year. It's still a little early to make predictions about the baby...

There is an awesome private school in our subdivision I would like to send him to, but public school will be the route we take. However, he will still be education will be reinforced at home.

- Do you expect that your life will change much when they are in school?
Yes. Will spend more time prepping for school and having to stick to a daily routine.

- If you had to guess from their interests/personalities now, what do you think your children will like/dislike about school?
He will def like kid interaction.

If your kids are in school:
- Private or public or homeschool? Why?
My son currently attends pre-school. I guess you would call it private, but I think that all pre-schools in our area would be considered private then, since we don't have free pre-K that I know of in my area.

- Does your life change much during the school year (as opposed to summer?)
He's only attending two days a week. The biggest change is that I have to get him up early to catch a ride with his dad, and that I have to pack his lunch those two days a week. But the nice thing is then I have so much extra time on those mornings, because I am up earlier, once they go I am only getting myself ready, and I don't have to drive out of my way to drop him off at daycare. Blissfully laid back mornings!

- What are your kids' favorite subjects/favorite aspects about going to school? Least favorite?
He loves music and singing, and he loves the crafts. They also do a soccer enrichment program on Wednesday afternoons, and he seems to really enjoy that. I think he also likes being around all of the other kids, including his cousin who is in the same class.

If your kids are not yet in school:
- Do you plan to send them to public, private, or homeschool?
Public! DH is a public school teacher - free quality education for all children is kind of a passion of his (and mine too).
-Do you expect that your life will change much when they are in school?
I'm going to have to figure out childcare for after school, and I imagine that the mornings will get busier. I think we will probably be busier in the evenings too, because I will encourage him to go out for an extra curricular activity such as sports or music, so we will have that to contend with. Other than that, I don't really know since I've never had a school aged child. Smile
- If you had to guess from their interests/personalities now, what do you think your children will like/dislike about
Sports and music seem to be two things that he really enjoys. He also loves to be read to, so I am hoping that will translate into a love of reading.

If your kids are in school:
- Private or public or homeschool?I have a Junior in private school. Because he just didn't fit into the big public school but he is thriving at the smaller private school. I have a 7th grader and 2nd grader in public school. The 7th grader because she is really into her sports and thrives among the large population at her school, the 2nd grader. A K4 er in private because it was convenient.
- Does your life change much during the school year (as opposed to summer?)Tremendously. I drive to 4 different schools (but I do carpool) Our life is crazy busy during the school year but we relax during the summer months.
- What are your kids' favorite subjects/favorite aspects about going to school? Least favorite?Josiah hates school but loves his teachers and classmates. He doesn't like English. Bethany loves everything about school. She does dislike Science. Emma loves her teacher and the social part, she is too young to dislike school. Olivia loves to boss her classmates around and hates it whent he teacher bosses her around!

If your kids are not yet in school:
- Do you plan to send them to public, private, or homeschool?Haven't decided yet. Probably public for at least the first few grades. I'm open to change though. I went to both public and homeschool as a kid and appreciated both for different reasons.
- Do you expect that your life will change much when they are in school?I expect to have a lot more time to myself. I hope to be working for myself by that point.
- If you had to guess from their interests/personalities now, what do you think your children will like/dislike about school? My older DD will more than likely be into drama, she loves acting things out and pretending all day long. My younger DD is a rebel and fearless. I'm hoping she's into sports.

Forgot to add, once both of mine are in school full time then we can start saving money again because we won't need full time help. We can get someone part time to cover afternoons and save a bundle!

your kids are not yet in school:
- Do you plan to send them to public, private, or homeschool? Public. If we are still in the same town the only private school is catholic and we aren't catholic. I also had a traumatic experience during a teaching practicum in a catholic school. I have to consider if DS will go to the public school down the road where he will automatically get in and has a pretty decent reputation or wait list him at another school which is a bit more of a drive but has the best reputation in town
- Do you expect that your life will change much when they are in school? A bit, we will have to build homework tme into our afternoon routine, but I am thinking of starting that early anyway with educational games while I cook tea as he gets a bit older. School age is also when most after school activities start so we may be busiser with sport etc training.
- If you had to guess from their interests/personalities now, what do you think your children will like/dislike about school? I'm not too sure, he likes drumming on things and can get a pretty decent rhythem going as well as 'singing' along to music. He also likes books and is a real little rough nut so right now it could be anything. If I had to say anything with his developing little personality as it stands I would say a good all rounder.

My son is in private preschool. There are no public options here.

My life doesn't change much in summer or the school year. Still working 2 jobs, packing kids stuff, etc. etc. No free time until I retire in 27 years.

ETA: I afterschool my kids as well, for their heritage language. That's English and Social studies now.

If your kids are in school:
- Private or public or homeschool? I have two college students (junior and freshman), one junior in a public school taking PSEO classes at the college and one preschooler going to the same private school as her siblings and me. Two are not yet in any educational format yet. Why? The private school has an excellent curriculum, small class sizes, and religious based but it goes only through sixth grade. The public school for the middle/high school has an excellent music department, offers the only accelerated classes in our area, and has diverse extracurricular activities.
- Does your life change much during the school year (as opposed to summer?) It will more now this year than the past couple years. It will now increase again with more elementary events going on through the school year and balancing the time with the high school and college events. Summer is much less chaotic than the school year. I love my summers!
- What are your kids' favorite subjects/favorite aspects about going to school? Least favorite? My older three love music, math, and sciences. Both of my juniors love the socialization of school as well, while my freshman loves her arts. My oldest junior's least favorite is the languages, my freshman is not into history. My preschooler is currently delighted about everything at school, but I would have to say it's the friends she's making as her favorite part. We haven't figured out a part that she doesn't like yet. She loves performing and art.

If your kids are not yet in school:
- Do you plan to send them to public, private, or homeschool? Private and then public, following their siblings.
- Do you expect that your life will change much when they are in school? Yep, even more chaotic!
- If you had to guess from their interests/personalities now, what do you think your children will like/dislike about school? One loves to read, read, read and learn her alphabet and numbers. She loves puzzles as well. She's also very vocal, so I can see her loving to give her thoughts on any subject or performing as well. The other is more of an observer, but very agile and athletic. I can see gym as being one of her more favorite subjects. She also has an eye for detail and is very curious about nature, so I can also see science and art as being one of her favorites. Right now, while she loves being read to, she has little interest in letters and numbers.

- Private or public or homeschool? Why?
Alana attends a charter school and we're very happy with it. Her school is pre-K through 7th grade and then she'll transfer to the middle/high school for 8th through 12th. Her school has a heavy focus on technology and economics. Madi attends VPK at a public school down the street from Alana's school. It is a free 3 hour/day program to get her used to going to school. Next year she'll transfer to Alana's school for Kindergarten.

- Does your life change much during the school year (as opposed to summer?)
I'm a teacher so I enjoy the summers off! The girls take more dance classes during the summer and the AWANA program at church is on break. We stay busy with outdoor activities and dance mostly.

- What are your kids' favorite subjects/favorite aspects about going to school? Least favorite?
Alana loves to read and this year she is super excited about the AR program. Her school also does tons of field trips so she's already looking forward to going to the pumpkin patch next month. I don't think there is anything she doesn't like about school besides getting up early in the morning, lol. Madi's favorite part of school is playing on the playground. She definitely goes to socialize!

If your kids are in school:
- Private or public or homeschool? Why? Public. I can't afford private plus I live in a very good public district.
- Does your life change much during the school year (as opposed to summer?) Yup, way busier. With homework, projects, holidays, school events, sports - it's head spinning with 5 kiddos.
- What are your kids' favorite subjects/favorite aspects about going to school? Least favorite? DD loves reading, isn't so fond of social studies or math; DS#1 loves math but not writing; DSS#1 doesn't like much of anything other than recess; DSS#2 it's a bit too early to tell as he's in kindergarten.

If your kids are not yet in school:
- Do you plan to send them to public, private, or homeschool? My last is not in school yet but we will send him to public school
- Do you expect that your life will change much when they are in school? I expect the craziness to increase another factor.
- If you had to guess from their interests/personalities now, what do you think your children will like/dislike about school? He's only 15 months old but I think he'll like anything physical. He's the busiest little guy!

Emma is in private school, Aodhan and Lillian and Nathalie go to public school (Pre-k for Nathalie, only the AM) The original plan was to send them all to the private catholic elementary school. They were all there last year. However the school was too conservative for our taste and we had a lot of issues with certain policies so we pulled out the younger ones. Emma really wanted to stay because she has made good friends there and is very happy, so we let her stay. Its a great school academically and we can deal with all the nonsense that goes on there until she is out of elementary.

My life changes dramatically come the school year. It is ridiculously busy and overwhelming. Summer is a breeze and easy as pie.

Monday - Nat -dance, Emma - swim
Tues - Emma piano
Wed. - Lillian dance, Emma swim
Thurs - Swimming lessons for everyone but Cecilia, emma choir
Friday - Emma and Lillian girl scouts sometimes
Saturday Morning - Aodhan guitar, Lillian soccer

Aodhan starts basketball sometime in Nov.

PLUS Mon-Thurs, i have to keep Nathalie home with me early in the AM, then bring her to Pre-k for 8, then go back to work then pick her up from Pre-K at 11:00 then bring her to her daycare provider.

Fortunately i get out of work at 2:30 every day to run around. But I work tuesday nights for four hours to make up for it which i HATE. I also go to the gym four days a week to get some exercise and me time which is absolutely wonderful....but means more running around.

Plus school open houses, fundraisers, fall concerts, spring concerts, school plays....go go go GO GO.

Summer? I work each day....bump those tuesday night hours up to tuesday afternoon, kids are watched by my sister-in-law while i work and.....thats it. Nothing scheduled after work and its lovely and quiet and we can enjoy the summer!

favorite subjects
Emma - says she likes math but her best strength is writing. She is an excellent writer.
Aodhan - Phys Ed he will tell you Smile
Lillian - Hasn't really decided yet
Nathalie - only in pre-k so she doesn't know Smile

ETA: i used to look forward to the school year...because for the first couple of years it was definitely easier than the summers. Complete 180 now as they have gotten older, more interested in things and more social with their friends.

Also, cant' wait until they are all in school because we will definitely be saving a boatload of money!

My boys are in school, first and third grade. My DD is still at home with me as she's only 2 1/2!

If your kids are in school:
- Private or public or homeschool? Why? Public, only because I can't afford private or they would be in Christian school. If we're in the same financial boat next year, I want to look into one of the charter schools.
- Does your life change much during the school year (as opposed to summer?) No, just no more sleeping in lol...
- What are your kids' favorite subjects/favorite aspects about going to school? Least favorite? My oldest loves reading, my first grader loves art!

Tiven is in second grade, and Weston will be in preschool next year.

If your kids are in school:
- Private or public or homeschool? Why?
Public because I love public education. I supported our local public schools before I even had kids. DH liked the idea of homeschooling but I don't think he's the right person to do it, and since we thought Tiven might be an only child we wanted her to be exposed to more kids & make a lot of friends. I'm open to a non-religious private school in the future if things change. If she gets assigned to a high school in the south part of town, I might enroll her in a private high school closer to home instead of her having to spend an hour on the MUNI each direction.
- Does your life change much during the school year (as opposed to summer?) Yes! I actually find summers to be far more stressful. During the school year we have a routine, we all have places to be & things to do. DH isn't great at coming up with things to do, so all summer I'm either trying to set up playdates or getting DH to take them places, or hearing them all whine about being bored & irritated. Or he expects me to be able to take off any time he wants me to, to do things with them as a family or give him a break from the kids, and I can't.
- What are your kids' favorite subjects/favorite aspects about going to school? Least favorite? Tiven is her father's child, for sure! She loves everything creative, and she resists math. Blum 3

If your kids are not yet in school:
- Do you plan to send them to public, private, or homeschool?
Weston will be at the same public school as Tiven. I didn't want my kids more than 5 years apart and one of my biggest reasons was I didn't want to have to deal with the school lottery again. Younger siblings are guaranteed enrollment if their older sibling is at that school. Weston will be in K when Tiven is in 5th. Good thing he wasn't born a month later!
- Do you expect that your life will change much when they are in school? Not sure my life will change much, but DH's will. Even when Weston goes to preschool, he'll have four hours a day to himself again, and the plan is that he'll finish the book he's working on before doing anything else. And when Weston goes to elementary, DH will have all day free, and I hope he'll use the time to do something to earn money.
- If you had to guess from their interests/personalities now, what do you think your children will like/dislike about school? Weston is probably going to be on the wrestling team, and play drums in the band. :p

If your kids are not yet in school:
- Do you plan to send them to public, private, or homeschool? - public as long as we are living in a good school district and I would prefer a public that has uniforms
- Do you expect that your life will change much when they are in school? - I actually worry about it because as a working mom my biggest concern is not being their when school is out and DS being sent somewhere else when the other kids get to go home.
- If you had to guess from their interests/personalities now, what do you think your children will like/dislike about school? - I think he will LOVE learning, but I'm not sure how he will be at school itself

Public. I'm a public school teacher at a great school, so they will hopefully go to mine. It's not where I live, so we'll need special permission. I am a fan of public school and private is not in our budget. Smile

- Do you expect that your life will change much when they are in school?
YES! I don't work much in the summer. I do curriculum writing and various other small side gigs for my school system during the summers, and I usually take classes, but no day-to-day scheduled work. My boys are just beginning extra activities (I'm a soccer mom! Woot!) during the school year, so I imagine that will be a huge change for me. I'm used to evenings spent catching up!

- If you had to guess from their interests/personalities now, what do you think your children will like/dislike about school?

My older son will probably not enjoy art. He hates coloring and writing. He enjoys music, but REALLY loves physical activity. I think he'll like most Kindergarten stuff because he enjoys learning new things. I think he'll like reading when he gets to it because he really enjoys our reading sessions together and just looking at books by himself.

My younger son is too young to predict. I think he'll like everything because he enjoys most activities we do with him. He especially loves music (yay!).

ETA: Sorry for wonky formatting. Some of my answers are in the quote above. It's too much work to fix it!

If your kids are in school:
- Private or public or homeschool? homeschool Why? originally because I knew I could give them a better education. Now it has even more to do with our religious beliefs.
- Does your life change much during the school year (as opposed to summer?) Not as much as psers. We homeschool year round, but it is more lax in the summer. I do work in the summer more though, and the sports they do are in the summer.
- What are your kids' favorite subjects/favorite aspects about going to school? Josiah- loves learning period, loves science experiments and art. Isaac is into any projects Least favorite? Having to sit and do repetitive tasks.
