Daytona is a lot of fun especially on non spring break time or bike week. Lots to do and long beach. It's about 2 hours though I think from Orlando so not close.
That's the only FLA beach I've been to.
last year we were warm in shorts and tanks but I think the average is in the upper 60's. I'm packing two pairs of shorts and one pair of jeans for each of us with a jacket to be worn over t-shirts. And the .80 rain ponchos from Wal-mart's hunting section because it would be gorgeous in the morning, pour around lunchtime and bake us in the afternoon.
Thanks.
The most popular beaches near Orlando are Daytona Beach and Cocoa Beach. Daytona is only about an hour from Orlando, so not too bad. The weather is unpredictable here in the winter. Might be a high of 85 one day and a high of 50 the next. I wouldn't dare go to the beach in mid-February, but then again I wouldn't go out for a fire drill without my coat on! lol
Mid Feb can have some cold snaps. I remember many sad Spring Breaks in March when it was still chilly for swimming but just ok for a walk on the sand if it was not too windy.
The best areas are New Symrna, near Daytona. You might also try Clearwater on the other side if you have some time. I do not like Cocoa Beach. But the good thing is mid Feb will be mostly Canadians and not Spring Breakers.
You're not going to find too many shells at the touristy beaches. They're too picked over. Maybe try a more secluded beach like Playalinda. We only vacation at Daytona because my daughter has her National Dance Competition there.
HaHa! Not sure as I've never actually been there. Only heard friends talk about how peaceful it was, and not "touristy". We actually visit the gulf most of the time. We live closer to the west coast and it is easier swimming for the kiddies.
