Default personal debate: emergency potty training issue - HELP

So my 2 y/o is potty training. He's done such a wonderful job, no accidents after the first day. I just stopped diapers all at once. But now this is the second week and he has a stomach virus and after the vomiting came, diarrhea!!! All day he has been messing up his pants.

Do I put a diaper on him or just keep changing his clothes? Do you think he'll try to revert to diapers if I put diapers on him again?

Aww, poor guy. Being sick is no time to potty train IMO. Put a diaper back on and let him get better. I think all the messes would cause more damage to his confidence than being in diaper for a few days.

So far what I've done is gave him a pull up. (from when my first son was potty training but refused to wear them). I told him these are special plastic underwear. He said diaper underwear? I said, well, a little bit but they are for when you're sick to protect your pants. Do you think this will be ok?

I would use pull ups. That way to him it still seems a little bit more like underwear even though they absorb like diapers. They are more expensive but would probably be worth it for a short time. Even after my kids were potty trained I still put them in pull ups sometimes when we went out just because sometimes it is hard to find a bathroom in time when you are out.

Either way it will be ok In the grand scheme of things, he will not be going to pre-school in diaper. There are bound to be set backs here and there, but it will happen. A diaper/pull up for a few days then right back on track when he is better.

Thank you both so much. Out of all 4 this hasn't happened yet. When my 4 y/o had this virus he messed up his pants twice and was really freaking out. I think the pull ups will be good. thanks a lot. (not much of a debate)

DS was doing great with potty training at 2 y.o., but then in January he was in the hospital for 4 days. We just put diapers on him (plus he was attached to the oxygen on the wall so couldn't get to the potty anyway), and it didn't hurt his training progress at all. It only took a few more days after the hospital and he was fully trained. I agree with the pp's. Just use diapers/pull ups for now, with lots of cream to keep the diarrhea off his skin.

I agree with everyone else! Pull-ups are a great idea. Poor kid. Hope he feels better soon.

Just dealt with this last week. We put a pull up on for 3 days, and then when he felt better we were back in underwear. He never went potty in the pullup but did have a couple of accidents with the diarrhea, when he did we took care of all of it in the bathroom so he would not feel like a baby back in his bedroom
