Personal Debate- Entrance Fees for Birthday parties

Is it rude to ask for people to pay their own way into someplace in lieu of a present?

I think so. Is this a kid party or a grown-up one?

I would think it weird if someone invited to a party and I had to pay admission.

I wouldn't be cool with it.

Man, I wish it wasn't. DD2's 9th birthday is about 2 weeks away. She really wants a mini-golf arcade birthday party. I thought I lucked out in that her soccer team party will be at the same location the week before. Nope. That's what she has her heart set on so she can invite school friends. I told her I could get her a much nicer gift for the cost. Nope. She's searched online and it's about $10 - $15/kid no matter where we go. Since it's based on 10, we're stuck.

It would be so much easier if we could just ask for them to pay their own way, but it's tacky and rude.

The local waterpark's Black Friday deal started today and it's 150 for 15 people, the birthday kid, cabana, pizza and soda. Since regular admission is 25, I thought asking people to pay $5 of it and not bring a present would help me get my husband to buy into the idea.

We've paid to get into plenty of parties, but I remember thinking it was rude; none of them said no presents though.

OK off to bug hubby; thanks! I knew you guys would be honest. I'll try the we're going to buy the season tickets anway so $45 of it would have been spent on those.

Only $10 each? That's awesome! Wish we got all of that...sounds fun.
