    More spite....

It what looks like a spiteful move, the NPS even removed handles from water spigots along the Chesapeake and Ohio canal where bikers and joggers exercise as well as along the Great Allegheny Passage, just to ensure people don't get any water from them.

Instead of saving money, the NPS is expending additional resources to go out of its way to close such locations and to make people miserable.

Except for causes the Democrats support. Nope no favoritism there.

    Water costs money.

LOL about the "Obama Park Service permit." Is that the official name?

    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/09/us...s&emc=rss&_r=2&

In a storm of Twitter posts, conservatives questioned how the immigration groups could hold a demonstration on the Mall, which is a national park, when national parks and memorials are closed as a result of the government shutdown. House Republicans have tried to reopen parks and monuments while keeping most of the federal government closed.

Conservatives said the Obama administration was showing a double standard by allowing the rally a week after World War II veterans were blocked from entering their memorial on the Mall. The veterans went in despite barricades placed there. After that, the National Park Service said veterans would be allowed to enter the memorial during the shutdown.

In a statement, the Park Service said it had allowed the immigration rally as an expression of “First Amendment rights,” the same rationale it had provided for opening the war memorial.

They didn't open the war memorial the Vets just moved the barriers and went through, and then they still threatened to arrest them again if they did it the second day. They only relented finally because they knew if they actually arrested them it would be a public relations nightmare.

Although the NPS retroactively gave the vets access to the memorial, it wasn’t until after vets and several members of Congress pushed the barricades aside under the watchful gaze of the National Park Police.

“The day before, a different Honor Flight went through the barricades to see the World War II Memorial. We were told that was an anomaly and wouldn’t happen again. We were told the people in charge of our group would be arrested if we tried,” Pettinato said.

She said she told the veterans scheduled on the flight that it could get ugly and asked them how they felt about going.

“One man said, ‘I stormed the beaches of Normandy and I’m going to be bothered by this?’” Pettinato said. “He said he saw two men die in an embrace, both with their heads blown off.”

Fortunately, she said the police guarding the national monuments changed their minds Tuesday morning, but only for the World War II Memorial and only for the World War II veterans.

Rushmore blockage stirs anger in S.D. | Argus Leader | argusleader.com

Someone posted this on FB as a joke but it's almost turning out to be true.

have be you ever been on that stretch of road?? The cones were not blocking the entrances to the hwy viewing areas, they were placed directing tragic into them. Obviously with the monument closed due to the shut down there would be as expected more people/vehicles using the hwy viewing areas.

That stretch of road can be dangerous during the best of driving conditions and low traffic times add in a bunch of tourists who aren't familiar with all the hair pin turns, the rock faces on one side and 1000 foot drop on the other and it's down right deadly. That fact is proven time and time again year after year during the sturgis bike rally's.

The cones that were placed were placed for the safety of all the drivers out on the road.

Actually I have. I am from Montana so have been there quite a few times. Why would the Governor's office be complaining and asking them to take them down if the cones weren't blocking them?

The National Park Service placed cones along highway viewing areas outside Mount Rushmore this week, barring visitors from pulling over and taking pictures of the famed monument.

The cones first went up Oct. 1, said Dusty Johnson, Gov. Dennis Daugaard?s chief of staff. The state asked that they be taken down, and federal officials did so with some of them. The state was told the cones were a safety precaution to help channel cars into viewing areas rather than to bar their entrance.

?I think reasonable people can disagree about that,? Johnson said.

The Buffalo News reported that a tour group of dozens of people from western New York was unable to take pictures of the monument because highway viewing areas were coned off.

“It’s all closed up,” the newspaper quoted North Collins, N.Y., resident Hilde Werneth as saying. “They won’t even let you stop and take a picture. You can only drive by.”

Jim Hagen, secretary of the South Dakota Department of Tourism, said the situation is hurting people from out-of-state and international visitors who are in South Dakota to visit the monument.

“They won’t even let you pull off on the side of the road,” Hagen said. “I just don’t know what they’re trying to accomplish.”

Oh I don't know maybe because he is a Whiney hasn't done a single good thing for this state piece of crap. I have an aunt who travels that stretch of road every single day to and from work and she told me that at no time was the viewing areas on that road blocked. The cones were directing traffic into them.

The cones were removed due to the impending blizzard out there that dumped several feet of snow and hwy workers needed full access to try and keep roads clear not because our Whiney governor took issues with them being there. It simply amazes me the lies and lengths people are willing to go to in an attempt to make other people look bad simply because they don't share the same beliefs as them. A country filled with sheeple is not a country I want to live in.

The GOP's little rule change they hoped you wouldn't notice - YouTube
Really unbelievable the lengths they will go to, to ensure their 2 year old temper tantrum continues. So much for "by the people for the people", guess we now live in the land of "My way or screw everyone else". To me this whole government shut down screams, I'm not getting every thing exactly the way I want so I'm taking everyone's toys and going home.

Don't you think the same could be said for the other side? "You won't fund Obamacare so I am going to keep the Government shut down until you fully fund Obamacare".
