Smartphone vs. Sex
Poll: More Americans 'Can't Live Without' Laptops, Smartphones Than Sex
A new poll shows that while 20% of Americans claim they couldn?t live without sex, a full 26% say they couldn?t live without using their smartphones. It also shows that Americans prefer internet access, cars, laptops, and TV to sex.
The study by Harris Interactive also discovered that almost three quarters of adults say technology enriches the quality of their lives, and almost half of the people surveyed believe it improves their relationships with friends and boosts their social lives. About 40% of those polled thinks technology makes them happier.
Food was far and away the most treasured of all ?could not live withouts,? garnering a hefty 73% of positive responses.
From a generation of technology savvy Americans, only eight percent seem to regularly lose their ways, admitting that they could not live without their satellite navigation devices.
What do you think? What could you not live without. I have to go with food :)
Those that think smartphones are more important then sex must not be doing it right
Having watched this next generation grow up, yes, I can absolutely believe this. When I see two people holding hands on the bus, or sitting at a restaurant together, and both are reading devices instead of talking with one another, I can absolutely believe that they consider their smartphones more important than sex. And a bit TMI but, thanks to apartment living, I've actually heard neighbors *stop* having sex to answer a phone. Yes, more than one neighbor has done that, and on more than one occasion. I've been tempted to ask who was calling that was so important. My phone's ringer gets turned off at night, always has been, always will be.
I would not answer the phone if I was temporally busy, but also would not turn off my phone at night. If someone is calling me at 3 AM, then it is important. If say, one of my parents died or some other true emergency I would not want to wait until the next day to find out.
I think I've established here long ago that I have no problem with being unavailable. Given the number of wrong numbers I get (not as many as I used to get on my landline, which was one digit off from a restaurant that delivers all night, but now I'm swapped digits away from someone who gets a lot of booty calls) I simply don't freak out when the phone rings at 3am and I don't feel obligated to answer every ring to tell people that I'm not the person they're looking for; my voicemail does that for me. I can turn the ringer off but the voicemail notification is still set to vibrate. It's on the shelf, and if I'm asleep, the vibration usually wakes me up and I can decide if I want to deal with it or not. If I'm, um... busy with DH, then I'm not interrupted by it. Win-win. :p And honestly, if someone died, there's nothing I can do about it and I'd rather deal with it at 7am when well-rested than at 3am.
When I was in high school I asked a friend if he answers the phone during sex. His reply? "Only if it rings."

I think people who would give up sex before their smartphone take sex for granted.
