Maybe you should go read Deuteronomy.. Or heck even Jesus.. when he told the Prostitute... go and SIN no more.. He didn't say she hadn't sinned... He also didn't save the OTHER person hanging on the cross... only one.. He also didn't get down from the cross nor get the other man down.

It is fine that you think I am misinterpreting it, but I am not.

Would you rather they be impaled like Haman was for molesting Esther?,,,?

Let not have any right or any wrong, and open the prison gates.

I truly don't see how any of that justifies the death penalty for rapists...at all...

but at any rate this is not a death penalty debate so, back to the topic at hand.

That's the alternative to the death penalty? Just those two choices?

I know I said I would move on because this isn't a death penalty debate, but this statement just really bothers me. If you are so sure that you have the CORRECT interpretation of the Bible as it applies to how God would dole out discipline to criminals, where is the line drawn? Who lives and who dies? It is just really amazing to me that you feel so confident that it is biblical that rapists should die, so I'm really curious now...who else dies? Pedophiles? Burglers with guns? Bullies who might be partially or fully responsible for driving another child to suicide? How do you decide since the Bible is so clear on this in your mind??

I am so confused. When I searched for Deuteronomy I found it in the Old Testament. When I searched for "an eye for an eye" I found matches where Jesus said to turn the other cheek.

Actually prior to 1972 (?) criminals could be sentenced to death for more than just murder. Rape was one of those crimes. In 1976 (?) SCOTUS ruled it can only be used for murder.

I saw this broadcast on the news. I was sooo upset. I cannot believe how sad they made it for the VIOLENT RAPISTS. Awww, boohoo. They have to be in jail for a whole year?? And they are so sad for them? They did not ONCE mention that poor girl that was attacked and that was humiliated publicly, but they cried and were so upset and felt so bad for these horrible boys. To do something like this and then parade it around the social media sites, and say such awful things, shows that these boys have NO sympathy or empathy and I'm just horrified by the reaction that everyone had. Just because they play high school football!

I'm usually all about criminal's rights, but the way that this case has come out across the media, and from the angry people in that town, I'm just disgusted.

They kept saying they were 'watching while these boys had their lives ruined forever'. Oh heck no. These boys ruined their OWN lives forever. And they got off soooo easy compared to what a rape sentence should be! Oh just disgusted!

    ETA:

Oh and I don't care what the bible says about this. It doesn't matter. As a HUMAN BEING you KNOW that you do not do this to other humans. This is not acceptable. We don't need the bible or god to tell us this!
