This resulted in a 3 day unpaid suspension. Does that sound like a decent punishment to you?
Having a kid that just turned 11, this just horrified me. I would be out for blood if this was my child. I don't care if he actually punched this officer, this was insane! Even if it was an accident, just having this out pointed toward a child isn't right.
I think he should be fired and in jail for a bit. Just horrifying.
Not comfortable with this for most reasons. Definitely no for not washing his car. Jerk.
On top of this poor kid..the other kids had to watch this. Way to start police distrust early.
I think in this case I think he should not have tasered him. He did say it was an accident though, he should not have pointed it at him.
I can picture a totally out of control 10 year old that is going to hurt someone in a full blown panic attack. Hitting, biting, and throwing things at anyone who tries to come near. I am not sure how you would subdue a child in this state, but I can understand a police officer wanting to do this to a large child for the safety of those around them. However I think it should be a very, very last resort.

He then tells the class here's what happens when you don't listen to the police!? There ain't no way in heck I would obey an order like that. I wouldn't obey any unlawful order; it's not going to bode well for the officer who throws me in jail/harms me over it.
THen the officer tases the child for disobeying.
Anyway...what he did is unexcusable. You don't ever point a weapon or anything used as a weapon unless your intent is to use it. It's a valid lawsuit, the cop should be charged with a crime and slapped with a huge financial settlement. Unbelievable.
He intentionally pointed the taser at the child and said, "Let me show you what happens to people who do not listen to the police." I don't view that as an accident.
I read an article on it yesterday and when I saw the title, I was for sure it was some out of control kid whose parents sucked. After reading the story, my stomach hurt. 3 days without pay is NOT enough. If it had been my child, I probably would be in jail because my initial reaction would have been to hunt him down, tie him up and tase him over and over again until I felt better. So the charge probably would have been premeditated murder. Those poor parents.
This is so wrong. I am normally the first to defend the officer, because I know how the media can twist things, but this seems pretty cut and dried wrong. I dont care how much this kid lipped off etc, the weapon never should have been pointed at him. We had a case not far from us where a 12 year old was tased due to being out of control, with a gun etc. It was a 'justified tasing' but I believe the child died. The charge delivered by the taser is not calibrated for a childs body and this cop is lucky the child just blacked out. He could have killed him.
Upon further thought, I think regardless of what the child did, this is not an appropriate punishment for a child if it could kill the child or really hurt them.
I would agree if the child had a firearm pointed at the cop. Otherwise why tase? For kids only if they are going to kill the officer otherwise they can subdue the child, I don't care how BIG the 10 yo is. Words work way better often than physical with kids anyway.Quote:
