Do you agree with this article that Tim Tebow deserves to be ridiculed because he has the gall to put his faith on display out in the open?
Is Tim Tebow Being Ridiculed for His Faith?
Yes??.and he should be.
I was watching Inside the NFL on Showtime tonight. This is one of my favorite shows to watch. The discussions are great and the game clips are the best bit of sports cinematography on TV.
Cris Collinsworth, Warren Sapp, John Brown, and Phil Simms started talking about the amazing Tim Tebow. I am an avid football fan, and as far as end of the game skill goes, Tim Tebow has it. He just knows how to get the job done. Of course Tebow believes it is God getting it done for or through him.
Cris Collinsworth brought up Tebow?s religion. Tebow is an Evangelical Christian. Collinsworth and Brown were quite adamant that if Tebow was any other religion he would not be ridiculed like he is now. People would be up and arms if Tebow was a Muslim and ridiculed the way he is.
They are right, however they never bothered to consider WHY they are right. I have been watching sports my entire life. I have never seen a liberal Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, or Catholic religiously masturbating for everyone to see. Faith to most people is private matter, one that should not be trivialized by asking God to help with 4th quarter comebacks. Mature people of faith understand that God has a lot on his plate and sporting events aren?t even on the menu.
The reason Tim Tebow is ridiculed is because he has taken public Evangelical masturbation to new heights. Inside the NFL had Tebow wired for sound during the Denver Bronco Chicago Bear game. What did we hear? Tebow praying. Tebow giving God praise. Tebow singing several praise and worship songs. Tebow encouraging fellow players to do great exploits in God?s name.
This is what many of us find offensive. His overt public displays of faith have no place on the football field. Play the game. Play hard. Do the best you can and may the best team on that day win. Leave God out of it. If Tebow wants to have a prayer meeting and sing praise and worship songs do it away from the cameras.
People think Denver is winning because the Evangelical Christian God is on their side. Well on Tebow?s side anyway??..What happens when NFL defenses figure out Tebow Time? What happens when offenses that can put up big numbers come to Mile High Stadium? (like Detroit did) When Denver loses will God get all the credit too? Of course not. God only gets the credit when things work out. God in only responsible for wins. Losses are on the team.
Tim Tebow is simply doing what Evangelicals do. They make great public displays of affection for their God. They are always ready to put in a good word for Jesus. They don?t care who it offends or how it makes their religion look??.all that matters is that Jesus gets face time on network or cable TV.
Tebow is free to flaunt his religion any way he wishes. We live in America. But??.don?t be offended when Tebow?s public displays of affection for God are ridiculed and mocked. He brought it upon himself.
Now go play some football.
