Critics blast Obama campaign for new ad that likens voting for Barack Obama to a young woman losing her virginity | Fox News

So DH was outraged by this. He showed it to me expecting me to be super upset. I was not. What do you think?

Love it! I hadn't seen that yet, TFS. It's spot-on in all kinds of ways. I do kind of think your first time voting is like losing your virginity, you have to choose wisely because the ramifications are huge. I was kind of depressed that "my first time" the choice was between Mondale & Reagan but I was beyond thrilled that there was finally a woman on the ticket (Geraldine Ferraro as Dem VP) and I hoped beyond hope that enough other women would feel the way I did and get Reagan out, but no go. Sad

“As a woman I am extremely offended. The Obama administration has devolved women to nothing more than a set of reproductive organs with needy, government dependency,” she continued. “This ad is inappropriate because it is sexualizing the voting process. This isn't an ad the average family would want their daughters to see.”

Nothing more than a set of reproductive organs with needy, government dependency? Obama administration?

Wow!

As for the ad: I think women are often over-looked. The ad makes a lot of points which should be important for women. Not my style though.

I was not really paying attention to all the points made in the ad, just what it was compared to. I did not think it was all that outrageous, but DH could not believe I was not offended.

A little more off color than I normally would say, but I thought some of you would appreciate this. One person on my FB wall posted a link to the video with the caption "Yep, if you vote for Obama you're screwed." Terrible, but I confess I did laugh.

Because she's ACTUALLY talking about voting, and the candidates are all guys.

Was this ad meant to be humorous? I'm assuming it was, even if only a little. I just don't find anything funny about choosing the leader of our country so this ad had zero affect on me. Wouldn't have mattered which candidate would have decided to use this style, I wouldn't have cared for the approach. But, I'm assuming the people who run these campaigns have an idea of what will appeal to sub-groups and apparently this idea was a popular one.

That's not what she is saying. You're pulling at straws on that one.

Not offended by it at all. Really wish they could reach that generation without humor, but totally understanding why they are using humor

I think it is tasteless. I'm not really surprised though because Liberals have been working for some time to make it seem like Virginity is nothing important and marriage has nothing to do with it. Just like the tasteless show Virgin Diaries on TLC. Like saving yourself for marriage is something to be ridiculed. Sandra Fluke should be our idol right because she not only has sex when she wants but expects the taxpayers to pay for her contraception.

I think Gloria saw a different video than I did. Blum 3 The point wasn't that virginity is nothing important, it's precisely that it is very important, it's so important that most women choose who will be their first partner with a lot of care & consideration. And women should put that amount of care & consideration into their choice of who will be their first vote-getter.

Except in that whole list of reasons about choosing your first partner marriage wasn't even mentioned. And to equate losing your virginity to voting just brings it down to being LESS important, not the other way around.

Because as much as many of us would love to, we can't all marry Barack Obama. At least not until some laws are changed & more bedrooms added to the White House. :bigwink:

Can you explain how you would make a reference between marriage as part of losing your virginity with an equal comparison to voting?

You can't that's why it isn't a good analogy. Losing your virginity is about a lifetime commitment and voting doesn't even begin to compare.

Um.....Maybe losing your virginity was a lifetime commitment to you, but it wasnt even close for me, and honestly, I wouldnt want it to be for my daughter either. I think it equates nicely with voting. It a few year commitment Smile

ITA with Kyla. I wouldn't want to make a lifelong commitment to the first guy I ever had sex with, and I wouldn't want to deny myself & a man I really care about the wonderful sex we could be having if he's not the guy I want to marry. I wanted to know that we were compatible in *every* way before making that commitment. It took us 10 years to get married; I can't imagine not having sex all that time. No thank you.

Here I disagree. I get the comparison and think it is funny, but I would hope losing your virginity would be a much bigger decision than who you will vote for. If you were to ask me each person I have voted for since I was old enough to vote, I would not be able to tell you. I would however, be able to (but I won't) tell you who I have slept with. Losing your virginity is a big deal. Yes, voting is too, but not to the same extent.

This board is good for me. So many times I only see things from one POV. This attitude is completely foreign to me. I know no one in real life (That I am close enough to talk to about it) that would have this take on things. Even if they were in support of premarital sex, it is not something they would so openly admit. I live it the heart of the bible belt and if you expressed such an attitude out loud you would be looked at like you have 3 heads. It is a good reminder to me that not everyone feels the same on these issues.

I agree with Stacey. I don't equate sex with marriage at all. My husband was not my first nor was I his. I don't regret my first time and the person it was with at all. I'm glad it was him. I think it is funny on the different viewpoints (not ha ha funny) because I know of no one IRL that was a virgin when they married or when they met the person they married.

I took this more on the line of...intelligent voting requires time and thought just like intelligent choice of who you pick for your first time. It's not a great idea to lose your virginity without thinking and planning it so you know you are sure of your choice same for voting.

Did anyone see the video of the older people using totally bad language? Like if Romney wins we will "burn this mother fer down"? I feel like that is WAY more offensive then this other video

Yes I don't think this one is the worst one, I'm sure there are women who fit right in with it. The problem is that those women are probably already voting for Obama, so I don't think he is winning any new voters with this kind of ad.

I haven't seen the one you are talking about, but the kids singing this is one of the worst ones I think. Disgusting.

Imagine an America
Where strip mines are fun and free
Where gays can be fixed
And sick people just die
And oil fills the sea

We don’t have to pay for freeways!
Our schools are good enough
Give us endless wars
On foreign shores
And lots of Chinese stuff

We’re the children of the future
American through and through
But something happened to our country
And we’re kinda blaming you

We haven’t killed all the polar bears
But it’s not for lack of trying
The Earth is cracked
Big Bird is sacked
And the atmosphere is frying

Congress went home early
They did their best we know
You can’t cut spending
With elections pending
Unless it’s welfare dough

We’re the children of the future
American through and through
But something happened to our country
And we’re kinda blaming you

Find a park that is still open
And take a breath of poison air
They foreclosed your place
To build a weapon in space
But you can write off your au pair

It’s a little awkward to tell you
But you left us holding the bag
When we look around
The place is all dumbed down
And the long term’s kind of a drag

We’re the children of the future
American through and through
But something happened to our country
And yeah, we’re blaming you

You did your best
You failed the test
Mom and Dad
We’re blaming you!

Gloria-
I agree! All of the political positions expressed in that song (like "gay people can be/should be fixed" and "let sick people die if they can't afford care" are disgusting!!!!
