Voter ID Laws

In honor of the upcoming elections, lets do one on Voter ID laws. I know we have done this before, but it has been awhile.

Do you think it should be required to have an ID to vote? Why or why not.

I do think some sort of photo ID is a reasonable accommodation for voting.

It makes you wonder how many people are doing this that aren't dumb enough to admit it on TV.

Oregon is fraught with fraud right now. This last election multiple ballots were sent to people.. especially college students who were told to reregister.

I think one election cycle in Oregon and you will feel that voter ID is necessary

I've tried to reply 4 times - don't know what happened.

Wouldn't that be mail fraud? Opening someone else's mail and then mailing it in? I don't know, that's why I'm asking. If it is, would it be worth the penalties for mail fraud to vote fraudulently?

Yes that is mail fraud.. We had lots of ballots sent to people twice.. same person two locations.. so it would be easy to commit voter fraud in those cases also.

Also if mail gets lost.. doesn't have postage.. If a mail carrier commits mail fraud (there was a story recently of one tossing out political mail from one political party but not the other. etc etc..

There is no need to go to an actual place and show id.
I registered when I was 18 and never had to go to a polling place and show id.

It is very easy to register deceased people also here.. as you do not have to physically show up anywhere... Ditto for illegals.

Then there is an issue of an address.. they will get you one if you have a consistant location. (even if it is the cardboard box, under the tree 10 ft west of X address). but what about transients that do not even know which hostel or shelter.. if any they will stay at.. They can't show up on election day to vote.
