Would you call the police on a Breastfeeding mom and have her ..?

News can't get any better than this. I didn't see the Breastfeeding Debate Arena (one used to exist) so I'd posted this here.
Summary of story from Weekly World News, January 24, 2012

A Virginia woman was arrested for breastfeeding her one-month-old son near the home of a Republican Presidential hopeful.

Callista Gingrich, the wife of the Presidential runner and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, called 911 to report the offender, Sherry Valentine.

?I spoke up on behalf of my family and Newt?s campaign,? Ms Gingrich said. ?We support the McLean Police Department?s aggressive stance on public indecency and the decision to arrest Ms Valentine.?

?This is a family neighborhood filled with hard-working American people,? she continued. ?We stand together as a community. We will not allow people like this to infiltrate.?

?We are trying to rebuild the America we love, and there is no room for obscenity.?

The first-time mother was charged with indecent exposure and child endangerment for allegedly pulling over to feed her son.

Ms Valentine claims she couldn?t calm the baby because she was driving. She stopped the car on what she called ?a quiet street? and sat on a seat in a park gazebo, just a few blocks from the Gingrich home to breastfeed her child.

Ms Gingrich happened upon the scene as she returned from a campaign event celebrating her husband?s South Carolina primary victory.

Answering questions from reporters, Ms Gingrich said: ?It?s inappropriate, really. People need to take care of these situations in private. Some secrets should remain behind closed doors.?
First Ladies tend to set family values and trends. I personally don't understand why some are offended or afraid of breastfeeding but to call the police to have her arrested? The last line had me rolling. "Some secrets should remain behind closed doors." Why should breastfeeding be a secret? Or was she referring to her infidelities?

Does this really sound real to you? Is it at all concerning to you that the original story comes from weeklyworldnews? One of their other headlines declares Heidi Klum is dating Batboy! Now, THERE'S something to get up in arms over! They also have sections on their website devoted to mutants and aliens. Two separate sections, in fact.

No reliable news organization has carried this story. I can't believe how many posts are out there about this, found in my five minutes of googling it. Practically libelous, I'd say...

Oh, and I'm pretty sure the woman wouldn't have been arrested, anyway. See below.

SUMMARY OF ENACTED BREASTFEEDING LEGISLATION in VIRGINIA

Va. Code 18.2-387 (1994) exempts mothers engaged in breastfeeding from indecent exposure laws.

Va. Code 2.2-1147.1 (2002) guarantees a woman the right to breast-feed her child on any property owned, leased or controlled by the state. The bill also stipulates that childbirth and related medical conditions specified in the Virginia Human Rights Act include activities of lactation, including breast-feeding and expression of milk by a mother for her child. (H.B. 1264)

HJ 145 (2002) Encourages employers to recognize the benefits of breastfeeding and to provide unpaid break time and appropriate space for employees to breast-feed or express milk.

Va. Chapter No. 195 (2005) Provides that a mother who is breast-feeding a child may be exempted from jury duty upon her request. The mother need not be "necessarily and personally responsible for a child or children 16 years of age or younger requiring continuous care . . . during normal court hours" as the existing statute provides.

Weird, I thought I posted. Good Point - I just read the article from womensviews website. Yeah - it's all over the web. I was going to post the CNN ireport link for you but it has been removed. I blame it on Romney's campaign because all I see are false reports of Ron Paul and Gingrich, lately.

The link you posted above now leads to a retraction from womensviewsonnews. The article they originally posted was from weeklyworldnews. So, while it's nice that they retracted it, the damage is done. Maybe they should learn to consider their sources. How irresponsible.

That's journalism for you today.

Yeah and if only so many news journalist/outlets should learn to consider their sources, then this will be a more perfect world. If Bill Clinton or Bush sued for every lie , they would be rich. No - wait, they are already rich. Besides, this doesn't top Callista being a homewrecker. At least the media got that right. That's more damage then this article.

I didn't think it was real either. I did a search and it didn't show up anywhere else.

This is why people don't trust intentions of media.

How ridiculous. Isn't it obvious that stories like this are being made up to make any republican candidate look like an @ss? I would hope that whoever published this false garbage would be reprimanded, as it's a blatant ploy to hurt the candidates.
