Almost lost Julia today

Julia's swimmer suit malfunctioned today and caused her to be pulled face first in the water...she was a couple feet from me,my hubby, her brothers,a life guard and some other swimmers when this happened,I was playing with my youngest son, hubby was playing with my older guys and jewels was playing near by in the shallow end of the pool...this all happened in less then a minute...Hubby seen her floating and picked her up and out. thank goodness...her angel must have been watching her...I guess I am just a crappy parent...from now on she just swims in a bathing suit and swim diaper...nothing else...

Yikes! I read on FB too. How totally scary. That's part of why I'm worried about using one of those devices. It gives you this false sense of security by making you think the child is safe when wearing it. Like you said, just a bathing suit might be a better idea but it's probably so hard to watch them all when you have 4 kids!!!

I never even thought of the fact that they look like a toy when the child is submerged. That is REALLY super scary.

I'm so glad Julia is ok. You must have been beside yourself. I know I would have been. *hugs*

she is okay and that is all that matters. It is scary how these things happen in a second. I used floaties with my big kids but they were about 3 before I let go of them but they were a different brand that had it in the middle. They no longer make it and I had the same one you did for dd1 but she was 5 I think. I will definitely be vigilent. At least your silver lining is you got the message out and we will all put that in our memory banks to watch out for (along with 1000 other things lol)

I called the company and informed them apparently its not meant for everyday pool stuff( why was it was with the pool toys ect) but for swim lessons....the malfunction was that once the water came up to the bottom of the suit flotation part it would force the child to go face first...which apparently the suit shouldn't do the company lady told me...she is calling it back and having it tested plus she is going to have them put something on the label about not using in pools for recreation.I have warned people on the Walmart site who sells these suits...my mother posted about this on many other boards...

Oh that would have scared me to death! They don't allow any floatations devices in public pools on our area, I think it's a law in Cali. I hope it doesn't make Julia too scared of the water.

no julia loves the water and has been in the water since she was 4 months old! She actually tried to get back in after we took her out...right after she almost died! they have no fear at this age.

Wow, so glad she is ok. I have heard that many, many child drownings occur when there are adults in the water with them. It could happen to anyone! Hugs to you, sweetie. :bigarmhug:

I saw this on FB, that would be SO scary.
Someone gave me some of those suits and I'm not a huge fan. They definitely don't keep them from going under; they seem to just be a help for a beginning swimmer. I usually use just one of those tub things you can sit them in for Noel and a regular cheap tube for Micaiah.

That would scare me to bits. Daniel has gone head into water once, and that was literally head in head out (wave) but shook us both up pretty bad. So, so glad Julia is alright. I could never have the courage to take that many kiddos around water at once, two freaks me out now. Big hugs, mama!

I usually have no issues taking 4 kiddos out with my hubbies help....I usually go by myself and keep them really close...Julia has been in the pool since 4 monthish.

I took K to our hotel pool while we were in Hawaii. She was standing on the steps and slipped off...going under the water. I was right there and grabbed her in a second...but yikes, it was still scary. Surprisingly she wasn't phased, but I was.

One thing I fault myself for is not providing her with enough opportunities for water play...but it's just so scary!
