Our Vacation Pics

We just got back from taking K to Hawaii for a friend's wedding. It was a super fun trip! I got sick on day 3 of 9 which made for unhappy times for mommy but we still had a blast. Here are a few (LOL) pics for ya'll.

K has got her Trunki packed and is ready to go!

On the plane, playing with a felt toy I made her.

She stayed awake 3 hours and then fell asleep for the last 3.

My big girl walking the streets of Waikiki.

Enjoying the local fare. Ok, perhaps watermelon isn't local.

Colouring time with daddy! We got a 1 bedroom suite for our room so there was a nice kitchen area and table for eating.

Clean snuggle bug.

K and I in our wedding gear. We were there for my high school friend's wedding.

It was super windy at Pali lookout and K LOVES the wind. She got very excited when I put her down!!!

A bamboo adventure.

Cracking a macadamia nut with daddy.

Banana head!

After daddy taught her about pineapples she showed us that she listened. LOL.

We took K to the Honolulu Zoo. The first animal we saw was the elephants. I don't think she has ever seen an animal so large. She was mesmerized!

Baboons are COOL!

Rinos too!

Curious about the cow.

Beach time!

Pointing at the waves.

Ready to go home! Waiting for us at duty free. We attached her car seat to a rolling luggage cart so she could ride through the airport. It worked GREAT!

Thanks for looking! Biggrin

She did super awesome on the flights! I was shocked. On the way there we left at 6pm and her bed time is normally 7pm. She played for about 3 hours and then slept for the last three hours of the flight. On the way home we left at 10pm...which I thought was going to be horrible. She managed to make it until take off and was asleep minutes after we got off the ground. She slept the WHOLE way home...just under 6 hours. It was awesome. The only bad part is that was all the sleep she got that night and she's normally asleep for 11-12 hours. The next day was a bit sad and all of us had a 3 hour nap in the afternoon.

Ya, we had to gate check it. Grrrrr! We actually got an extra seat on the way there but they wouldn't let us bring the seat. I was a little annoyed. On the way back she was on our lap. Oh well, only 1 more vacation before she turns 2 and then we have to buy her a seat and then we will definitely bring our car seat on.

We purposely brought grandma's car seat and not our $300 Britax...just in case the losers threw it. You can't trust those airplane people!

So you have to buy a seat for them if they are 2?
I love her look in the bamboo pic. Looks like she doesn't know what to think!
Cool car seat rolling thingie. That's the same seat I have for Noel. How was it trying to lug that thing through the airport?
And disregard my comment in the rf car seat post since ha - you were in Hawaii!

Yes, 'lap babies' have to be under 2. Once they are 2 you have to buy them a *gulp* full price seat. That's going to sting!

The car seat weighs 23 lbs. YIKES! We took one of those cheap metal luggage carts and attached the car seat to it using a ratchet strap. It worked great! We were just able to wheel it through the airport with her attached. DH had his suitcase and the BOB stroller travel bag (with the stroller inside). I wheeled my suitcase in one hand and K in her car seat in the other hand, it worked great. After we checked the 2 big bags and the stroller it was much easier.

I meant to say, we were able to put the car seat through the metal detector thing at security with the luggage cart attached AND when they put it under the plane they left it attached too. It was a super great DIY project. So glad I did it. Others brought their stroller and their car seat to the gate, with the car seat precariously perched on the stroller. Yuck. I liked this better. K got used to being wheeled in it and when she was tired she was perfectly happy being dragged through Honolulu Airport.

Super cute pics. I love the walking inWaikiki pic. Sounds like you guys had a great trip I would be a little scared of taking Tannah on a plane ride.

Ugg... we might do a trip out west next summer. I was expecting to not have to pay for Noel's seat. Arg.

Do you need a passport to fly within the USA? If not she could 'be' under 2. She's small. My mom lied about my age on the plane when I was a kid but it's probably more serious now. We need passports to fly so they will know K's age for sure.

Nope, not planning on going out of the country. I'm assuming it's the same rules for Canada and the US?
