Anybody else gonna have to upgrade...

...to a new vehicle once this bebe is born? We own a Chevy Trailblazer with seating for 5, and our little sardines are already as squished as they can get. We're in the market for a minivan--I like the Chevy Traverse and Honda Odyssey.

I would like to but We still have one more open seat in our Tundra so our kids will be squished in there. Smile Hopefully DH will get his promotion soon and we can get a few things paid off and get a bigger vehicle soon.

Luckily, we bought my hubby a new car in December so that we would be ready. It's a wagon. he loves wagons for some reason. Works for me!

I'm really glad that carseats are so safe now and everything, but sheesh! Anyone with more than the statistical 2.3 kids (or whatever it is now) has a hard time finding a vehicle large enough to cart their family around.
I guess its a good thing that with 4 kids I'm not likely to leave the house that often, because what with gas prices what they are we'll be spending a small fortune on fuel.

That's the truth of it. We plan on getting a sequoia and I'm not looking forward to the gas cost. At least I'm already use to working it into the budget though with us having the truck as my commuter. I wish the gas prices would just drop down to around $2 again.

Yep. Our Kia Sedona only seats 7. We are eying up the Armada. I actually think a 12 passenger would be better so when the kids have friends and stuff. And we travel a lot so it may be more comfortable.

Yeah since we have a Toyota Prius and this is babe #3 we have to upgrade to a larger vehicle. It is so hard because our Pruis gets 45 mpgs so to go to something that only gets half that is going to suck! I will enjoy a more roomy vehicle though! We are looking at a Toyota Sienna (van) or a cross-over of some sort. I think the RAV4 might offer a 3rd row seat? We really like Toyota so we would love to stick to that make but they are pricey so I am not sure. We have a lot of time to shop around so I am excited to see what we come up with.

Marcia- We love Toyota's too! DH will only go with a Toyota or Honda. So we are looking at the SUV's and yes they are WAY pricey. We are probably going to do private sale that way we don't have to deal with all the stupid "insurances" dealers put on the vehicle that's already been marked up higher than it probably should be.

Krista- Yeah mu hub is the same way he is pretty set on sticking with Toyota or Honda! He doesn't have much faith in the "American" made cars! lol Anyway I think we probably will try to do a private sale also. I would love a brand new vehicle but I am thinking it would be smarter to get something a couple years old and then be able to upgrade in a few years when there are more Hybrid/fuel efficient SUVs/vans/cross-over vehicles. I was looking on the toyota website and the RAV4 does have option for 3rd row and it isn't too costly. The only thing I have read bad is that the 3rd row is pretty small as far as 3rd rows go. Car shopping is so fun! Smile

Yep, we're going to have to upgrade. We have a Nissan Rogue that we actually fit 3 kids into so we'll be looking into a minivan.

Marcia- Good luck with your shopping! I'm excited when we actually get to do that as well. It will still be at least a year for us though. DH's dad is a mechanic and most "American" made vehicles are a pain to work on and break down faster than Toyota's, Honda's, and Subaru's. DH has to go with a 4 wheel drive vehicle so it's an SUV for us. He doesn't like the looks of crossovers and mini vans just aren't us. We would hate it if we got one.

Good luck to everyone looking for bigger vehicles! I hope you find something you absolutely love!!!

Luckily, DH has a company truck, so the vehicle we get is "mine", for the most part. So I don't have to worry about whether he likes it or not. Blum 3

Here's my question...my mom is convinced that now that I am having a second baby I have to get a mini van. i hate mini vans! always have. Right now we are driving an Altima and I think that there is enough room for two car seats, any of you with multiple kiddos have any advice for me? Do I really need something bigger?

I have a tiny toyota Prius right now and have 2 kids in giant car-seats and they fit great! There is no room for another person to fit but it is perfect for just the 2 car-seats. I honestly think with 2 kids a car is just fine.

Um, we have 3 kids (1 in a toddler booster seat with a back, 1 in a giant convertible, and 1 in an infant seat) and we drive a 2 row Chevy Trailblazer. Yes, they're squished in like sardines, but it's temporary.
The only reason we are getting a minivan now is because we're going to have baby #4 and Texas DPS kinda frowns on strapping newborns to the top of your car. Blum 3

We have the good ol' Saturn Outlook that they no longer make, but we absolutely LOVE it!! It has 3 rows and holds 7 comfortably. We rented a minivan in FL and it had a lot of room. Good luck on whatever you choose, hope it is the best for you and your family.

Thanks ladies Smile DH still wants to get an SUV of some sort. So I guess we're going car shopping soon. Hope everyone finds what they need/want.

Yes, we will be upgrading soon too. Currently we have a dodge caravan and a dodge durango. Both seat 7 Sad We are going to check into a 15 passanger van and since ford has wider vans and are made more for comfort, we may go with that. It depends on what we find I suppose.

More gas guzzling for sure, but we will be able to comfortably take trips and just like Mindie mentions, we can have kid's friends along too Smile

we are looking at new vehicles and we have settled on a chevy traverse, I was leaning toward a Chrysler mini van - however they just rolled out a new engine and I am soooo against buying a vehicle during the initial roll out, they have to get the kinks out Smile so we are going with the Traverse, probably going to get it by the middle of august Smile I would love to find a saturn outlook, but the last year they were produced was 2010... they are basically the same as a trraverse, except I prefer the styling a bit better.

Good Luck with your purchase Smile

:lurk: hi ladies, hope you don't mind me popping in!

my car is fine for two monkeys (toyota corolla, love it), but DH's car is a relic from his bachelor days so it HAS TO GO. He drives a 2 door pontiac sunfire...we can barely wrangle the three year old into the backseat, it's darn near impossible to get an infant car seat in there as well.

we're looking at getting a ford edge...they're pretty snazzy, and have been getting good reviews. for those of you who are talking minivans, my mom had a toyota sienna for years and it was awesome. reliable, roomy, but didn't quite have that cheesy "minivan" feel.

I feel kinda like the odd man out reading this thread. I seem to be the only one looking to down-size my vehicle! I had a ford windstar when I had my own daycare (which its really hard to fit 5 kids under 2 into!) and now that my bf says I can be a ft sahm (YAY! :yahoo:) I am definitely looking at getting a little car (I want a fusion but my bf hates fords). Its going to be interesting going car shopping with him!
