Glucose Test

As I was sitting at my desk devouring Halloween candy, I started to think about how I have to get my glucose test in a few weeks. (Greeeaaatttt.) Then I started googling how to pass it. Haha. I seriously could NOT give up sweets during the holidays.

Anyone have any tips? Wink

I heard that eating a ton of protein the day before can help. I think that test is super faulty anyway and will not be getting it.

They can't make you take any test. You have the right to refuse any test that they offer.

I agree that the test is very faulty. Not to mention that when they were figuring out the numbers for the test they tested men NOT women, let alone pregnant women. Men process sugars completely different then women do especially pregnant women so to compare a pregnant women processing sugars to a man is just ridiculous. The best test I think is getting a monitor and just test your blood for a few days and see what happens. Is GD real? Yes but there's a better way of testing it then shoving your body full of sugar and sending it into over load anyway, then comparing it to men.

There isn't really anything you can do to pass / fail the test. Just follow the process of fasting before and you will be fine. Good luck!

I haven't heard that you can do anything to pass it. I DO NOT get it though. If I thought I was at some huge risk I would get it but I am not so I don't see the point. Just eat as your normally do.

I'm having the 2hr test done Nov 7th. I had originally intended to not take the test but with all my complications I changed my mind. I didnt have it with kaylee and I have been eating pretty well [yeah I type this while eating a Resse's Pumpkin HAHA] but fear got the best of me so I am gunna drink the nasty orange drink from hell and suck it up lol

Oh and like the PPs said, they can not force you to take any test you dont want to. Its your right to deny it.

With my last pregnancy I had a nurse tell me in order to help pass to make sure you don't eat anything sweet like 24 hours before. I didn't (even though my mom bought doughnuts that morning! Ha ha) and I passed it. Not sure how true that is but it seemed to help me!

like others said, they cannot MAKE you take any test. that being said just be more aware the days leading up and follow the instructions. if you don't pass the 1hr they'll request you do a 3hr...i'm sure you'll be fine

In the words of my OB:
"I'm just here to advise my patients, not boss them around"

Here is a recent article about why the test is really no good.

*lurker* again

In the end though, does it really matter why or why not? If you can take some better steps for the health of you and your babe, isn't it worth watching things more closely? GD isn't a death sentence. It's a few weeks of pokes and monitoring and maybe laying off the bread sticks at Olive Garden. Biggrin

Heck, if you end up being anything like me you'll find it's not the ice cream that makes my sugars spike, but the pasta! hehe

I posted on FB just the ingredient list from the container(its sitting in my fridge) just for the laugh. But I didn't say what it was, only that it is Rx Only. What a joke! It is the same ingredient list as the HiC orange concentrate at McD's.

Of course I had to be a little snarky with my OB. I asked what they did with patients allergic to FD&C Red dye 40, which is becoming a more common allergy. She looked at me blankly for a moment then said the lab could special order the lemon lime stuff, which is clear like Sprite/7-Up. Yummy. Non-carbonated 7-up just reminds me of being sick at grandma's. She always gave me flat soda for stomach ailments.
