Interesting visit to the ER last night

Well since I was having some very odd pain yesterday, I called my doctor's office. The triage nurse suggested for me to go to the ER because of my medical history. I could have gone to the OB office this morning but she wanted my cervix checked via U/S. So off to the ER I went. Well long story short is all they did was look and poke at my cervix. (no change thank goodness)

This doctor told me that at this point there is no need for me to have a U/S done. He also stated that he is not sure why my OB would of ordered one last week because of how far along I am. I explained that they also wanted to check Landon's size etc. He then stated that I am 3 days away from being 34 weeks and if I was to go into labor they wouldn't stop it at this point. I found that surprising as I thought that they would hold me off till at least 37 weeks. He as saying this in general and then he said also your little guys is measuring ahead.

I guess I should relax a bit now that everything will be okay with him but that really was surprising to hear. I guess it is because they are one of the top hospitals in Florida therefore they are equipped to handle pre-term babies. Idk.. it sounds strange to me.. He said the pain I was feeling was normal pressure pain and he said as Landon gets bigger it will come and go more often.. so confusing.. as it felt really different..

Eep! Im sorry you had to take a trip to the ER. Thats no fun at all.

As for him measuring ahead, that has nothing to do with his development. The size of a baby has no factor on the development of his lungs, brain and basic baby functions [breathing, regulating body temp ect] So if you were to go into labor, he would likely end up in NICU at least as a visit as 34 weeks is way to early for babe. Im sure there are some babies who do just fine, but goodness thats 6weeks early!! His lungs, brain and most basic functions are still growing and learning their jobs.

Most hospitals will stop labor if they can anytime before 37-39 weeks. Plus if you go into labor and they dont, you can ask that they try everything possible to stop it.

As for the feeling, as he moves down into your pelvis and runs out of room you're likely to feel new sensations since he is hitting spots he wasnt before hand.

Anywho-Glad you and kiddo are okay. (: Keep him baking mama and dont worry about his size, we bake babes we can birth[usually], its our bodys one and only job lol

Sorry you had to go to the ER. I know most hosp. around here won't actively try to stop labor after 35wks (if you are in labor they will let you progress). Glad there was no change in your cervix. Are you still working? Do you best to relax, from experience there is a HUGE difference between a 35wk baby and a 40 wk baby. My 35 wker was healthy enough to come home and we didn't do any nicu time but it was completely mentally and emotionally draining and we had a long road to feeling good about his healthy overall. My 40+wker was such an easy baby it was like night and day. Just be confident to know that if baby comes now he will be ok but every day he stays put is for the better :)!

So sorry for the scare! I agree that 34 weeks sounds early for them to not stop labor, but every hospital/doctor is different so I am sure they would not do something they could not handle. However, that being said, I hope little Landon stays awhile longer and bakes comfortably in your belly! Take it easy and do your best to stay relaxed. Smile
