Natural Birth Support

Who's doing it? (Support/positive comments only, please)
1: Where do you plan on giving birth?
2: Do you use a doc or a midwife?
3: What made you decide on a natural birth?
4: Have you done it before?

Also, check out the Birthing Naturally Board:
http://www.pregnancy.org/bulletinboards/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=496

1: I am planning another homebirth, but this is all contingent on my BP behaving. So far, so good.

2: Right now, I see both. I hope to be able to wean myself from the doctor after 20ish weeks. He is an awesome doc so IF I have to have the baby in the hospital, I know he will take great care of me/us.

3: I natural birth because of 2 mediocre hospital births, and 1 horrible hospital birth. And, I am not supposed to have an epidural anyway. Home birth also makes it cool in that I don't really have to find sitters for my Earth-side kiddos. Maybe one person to sit and watch movies with everyone, but they don't have to do overnights are people's houses.

4: My first 2 were steriotypical US hospital births. Got an IV, elastic bands from hell, epidural, etc. Meh. Ok. Not horrible, but boring. My third birth was the birth from hell. My doc at the time decided my labor wasn't going 'fast enough' so he gave me (unnecessary!) Pitocin. I was told by the anesthesia team that I wasn't medically able to safely have an epidural. The Pit caused her placenta to partially rupture. My 4th and 5th babies were by far the best births I have ever had. #4 was a water birth, and #5 was born in my bed after a 3 hour labor. I can't wait to do it again!

1: I am 90% sure we will be doing a Home birth this time. We are currently going to the same free-standing birth center that we gave birth to our last at. I am going to ask if they would be willing to do a HB for us. They usually will ok that as long as you understand that if by chance another mom goes into labor at the same time you would have to come to the birth center to give birth. That is all fine with me since I LOVE it there. I just would LOVE to not have to make the 30 minute drive while in labor because that was NOT fun last time when I was in transition!

2: Only see midwives, 2 CNMs and 2 CPMS. I love each one of them.

3 & 4: I knew before we had our first that it was the way I wanted to do it. I knew I could and I just feel like it is better for me and babe. I researched it a lot and just felt like it was the only way to do it! Of course EVERYONE and their brother (even my OB) told me I would beg for the epi but to their surprise I never once even thought about it! Our first was a
natural hospital birth with a doula present (highly recommend if you are doing a birth in a hopsital), 2nd was at the birth center in the water with midwives, and
3rd hopefully HB with the same midwives (also water birth). I am so so excited about it!

Mindie- I sure hope your BP stays under control and you get another HB! But at least you know that if you have to be in the hospital you can do it natural!

1: I plan to give birth in a hospital. It is a much shorter drive than with DS but a less natural friendly hospital than with my first birth. I am cheap, we don't have extra money lying around and that is the hospital covered by my insurance. I would LOVE to give birth in a birthing center but I'm too scared to do it at home.

2. Doc. Love my doctor but chances are with my insurance someone else will deliver. She was my doc for part of my labor with DS and missed the birth by 35 minutes. Sad

3. I did tons of research and also I'm just into that stuff like natural birth, extended nursing, not circ'ing, cloth diapering. Also researching and hearing about what can go wrong with the epidural sealed the deal. Best book I think was The Thinking Women's Guide to Childbirth.

4. I did have a completely natural birth with my son. I didn't even let them do an IV until after he was born. My husband was my coach and did an AMAZING job supporting me through my 2 hour transition where I repeated "I can't do this" and I'm F*&*ing crazy for doing this without drugs." I was over 8cm by then so I never considered asking for drugs just felt the need to say I was crazy a lot. I'd like to think I can do it again. I need to research again, prepare. The birth with my son was everything I hoped it to be so even if things don't go right with future births I'll always have my first. My challenge and heartbreak with DS was with the breastfeeding not going as planned for the first 2-3 months.

1. Hospital. I live in a small town the closest birthing center is over an hour away.

2. Doctor. I go to a group practice, there are three doctors. Two which I adore and one I can't stand. She is very rude. They also have a new doctor joining the practice soon.

3. My birth with Kaylee was not at all what I wanted. I was induced at 36 weeks for high bp. My ob at the time didn't do anything for my pre e, no meds nothing! Thank god she went on vacation and another doc from the practice was my dr while she was away. My bp was dangerously high I had swollen so bad my eyes were hard to see my feet wouldn't fit.in shoes and my clothes even maternity were too small and he was blown away I was still allowed to work and walk around. He rushed me up to L&D and check on Kaylee whose Hb was dropping all the time. He said he was worried about both of.our lives. I was induced went pain free for 22 hours when I did get the epi it only took to half my body and by the time I was started pushing I could pretty much feel everything.
I figure if I went 22hrs without drugs (24 hours total of labor) and all I can do it all natural the whole way.

4. See above lol No I haven't but I think I can!

I wish but we can't afford it. Our copay for having a baby from start to finish, including absolutely everything, and I know because I've had 3 others on the same insurance, is $170. That includes all my OB visits, too. The only midwife I would really trust in my area charges $8000 and it's just not THAT important to me. Sad I would love it, though.

You can still have a NCB at the hospital if you stand your ground and interview docs (Like, get their stats and what not.)

We're planning a natural birth. I'm on my phone so I won't respond in full until I'm on the computer. We have midwife, she was my student midwife with my last pregnancy

I am hoping for a natural birth, but I am open to changing my mind when the time comes!

1. Hospital! I like the comfort of knowing that they can have the baby out in under 5 minutes if something goes wrong.

2. Doctor. Again, I like the peace of mind.

3. Not sure. I have just known for a long time that if I ever got pregnant, I would like a natural birth.

4. First baby, so nope!

I plan to have natural child birth this time (again Wink )

None of the midwives so far that I have contacted are willing to assist since I have had more than one c-section....or they just ignore my emails altogether and never respond. Ah well. I guess my journey may continue unassisted completely. I do have an appointment with an OB/GYN next month ( I am only going to see him for a consult...since he is said to be the only one who is pro-vbamc and not so pushy!), but as of right now I have not been seen since six weeks because of insurance reasons. This too shall resolve itself one way or another I suppose. They did get my information today, except for one crucial piece...which is being mailed to them (their fault, not ours. Their system does not allow that particular paper to be included on their system...they have to have it in front of their face for proof.). If they get it in time, I will go to the September appointment. If not, well, it's just another kick in the face....nothing new here.

I have given birth totally natural (vaginal, no drugs, etc) with my first 4 children. None of my c-sections were medically needed...just a doctor in a rush and then because of that incision I was given no other options then. Things have changed....I only hope that change is enough. Otherwise, we will not have a support group and will be alone in our journey. Right about now, I've almost given up hope of any support at all. I refuse to go to a hospital and I refuse to have yet another unwanted and unnecessary c-section.

I plan to have a natural, vaginal birth with this baby. I will purchase necessary natural/herbal supplies to have on hand and I will slowly get all the supplies together that will be needed at home.

My husband, myself, and our children will be here....as far as assistance from friends, a midwife, or family....we have none here.

Natural birth, here we come...again!!
