Are we really going to play the DB card?!

So my doctors told me at my last appointment my doctors wanted me to take the GD test and after researching it I declined. I got asked by everyone and their mother why I was refusing the test, but eventually Dr. L crossed it off my Lab paper and I went and got normal 3rd tri labs done. When I got to the lab, the lady again asked me why the GD test wasnt being done, I again explained why and she called the office to make sure that someone there had in fact crossed it off the list and not me.

This morning I get a call from the head managment nurse of the office, she does all the big stuff for all four doctors. This is how our conversation went.

-Hello
-Is this Ashley O-------?
-Yes it is.
-This is S------ from Dr. L's office, Im calling because you havent taken your GD test and we need to get you set up for this today or tomorrow.
-I already explained to Dr. L that I will not be taking the test. He himself crossed it off the lab papers.
-Really? It's a required test, you have to take it.
-Actually I dont have too, I know it's advised but neither me or my husband find it to be something we want done at this time. If we feel it is, we let you know.
-Did you know that GD can lead to the death of your baby?
-Im perfectly aware of the slight risk of fetal death yes, but I am also aware that pumping me full of massive amounts of sugar after fasting is just as dangerous. If there is any paper work that needs to be filled out, I will happily sign it saying I denied the test after being read the supposed risks.
-We just want what is best for you and your baby. Fetal death is a very high rate among woman who have GD. We dont want your baby to die because you refused this test. You're also running the risk of having a baby that is too big. Do you want a 10lb baby?
-Please don't play the dead baby card with me or the big baby card, Ive already said I am refusing the test. You can draw up whatever papers needed to cover your butts but I will not be taking the test.
-I will see what I can do for you, but I am almost positive all the doctors will agree you need to take this test.
-If thats all you needed have a good day.
-Yeah, you too.

I despise those types too!! I've heard all sorts of things and experienced eye rolls as well as hateful people in my face. I'll tell ya what, after having 8 children already, I think I know what the test is going to say....1 hr, HIGH...gotta go for 3 hr, which makes me extremely ill, and no matter what, I end up dehydrated/seizures,etc while doing this test. So, if my doc in TN who is a high-risk OB/GYN, who has been with me for over 10 years says I'm right when I say the 1 hr will come back positive but every time my 3 hr comes back fine, and that I can avoid the testing, then I think I'm ok.

We are in the same boat my friend. Pee on them all I say!!

I went off on a medical tech a couple months ago or so when she refused to stop arguing with me that I HAD to have an internal because every patient on their first visit has one, so I am GOING to have it done too!! Hahahaha!!!! Right!! Get the heck out of my room little girl before I really go off!! If I say aint nothing going in my vagina, then nothing is going in my vagina!

Stupid people!

Sorry a nurse of all people was so horrible. I'd turn her butt in. A formal complaint to the licensing board if it were me.

how ridic. how many times do you have to say no. I chose to take the test and after the hr was spilling glucose into my urine so i decided just to change up my diet (starting today ugh) just because I feel that's what's best for ME. Generally you will KNOW if you have GD (it can show in your urine) or you will start measuring really big. totally dumb she mentioned dead baby so many times

I wouldn't even be this upset had she not implied that I am not caring for my child. I really don't understand how people can throw "You're killing your baby" into a mothers face and expect them to not get upset.

I have no issues with those who do the testing, and I would never get catty and mean with someone over it. =/ It just really upset me that my integrity as a mother was questioned.

I cannot believe they acted like that! jerks! What I don't understand with most OB practices is the fact that they are SO worried about GD but yet in the very beginning of pregnancy they almost never talk about the importance of diet/excerise. If they are so concerned with every woman getting GD then from the start they need to put more effort into making sure the womans diet is GD preventing! I agree with Mindi ask them if you can just have a A1C if it will make them feel better.

My doctor let me choose between the A1C and testing my blood sugar at home. I chose to do it at home since I already have a meter and its free lol. (: [I had an appointment today (:]
