We'll tell close friends and family after we have our first ultrasound and see the heartbeat. The girls are going to have shirts that say "Biggest sister" and "Big sister in training." DD1 is 5, so we'll tell her right before we tell family, so she'll probably tell everyone before they even get a chance to read the shirts! Facebook won't get the announcement for quite a while.
DH and I have each told our best friend, and then we told our immediate family. Everyone is under strict orders not to say anything, but since people were already starting to guess, we wanted the fun of telling them before they really figured it out.
I'm glad we told them when we did though, because a few people had noticed that I'd stopped drinking coffee and had turned down wine at a few dinners
We told my mom by giving her a book as a surprise gift....the book was 'Chicken Soup for the Grandma's Soul (this will be grandbaby #1 for her), we told my brother & his wife by giving them a picture of me holding a sign in front of my belly saying "Will you be ma favourite aunt & uncle?", and we told DH's family (parents and brother) when we were camping together.....DH lined up up for a family picture and said "1, 2, 3, Jackie's pregnant!" and then took the picture. Everyone's expression made it worthwhile, that's for sure!
We'll likely make the public announcement at the end of this month. I have to tell work at the end of July, and it doesn't really seem logical to tell work, but not the rest of our friends & family.
I only see my boss for 1 day a month, usually during the last week, so if I don't tell him when I see him in July (12 or 13 weeks along) I'll have to wait until the end of August when I'm 16-17 weeks.
.....Of course, this is only if we get an ultrasound and either get to see the baby or hear the heartbeat. Until we see/hear anything, we're not saying a word to anyone except those we already told.
That's awesome! I love it you should post that pic lol
We've told our Close friends, mainly because they knew we were TTC and now I'm not drinking so it's not a huge jump for them. Plus I spend a lot of time with my BFF since we're both SAHM's and our kids play together. My DD has been away for nearly 2 weeks visiting grandparents back home and we decided to tell her when she gets back, I'm too sick not to. The rest of the family we'll tell in early August (at around 11 weeks) when we go home for our next visit.
It's so hard to keep this secret! I told 2 friends at work when I first found out, and we told my mom when we visited last month. No one else knows. I've had to lie when people asked!! We will tell the rest of the family around 12 weeks, and then I start back at work August 14th. After that, everyone will know.
