Early Gender Scan Anyone??

Just curious if anyone is planning on finding out the sex of their LO earlier than the usual 20 week u/s? I am thinking about getting a scan at 14 weeks (the earliest they do it in my area) and it will only cost $40. I think knowing 6 weeks sooner would be worth it! At the same time, I didn't do this with my other two so I am still kinda up in the air about it.

I am! My OB does gender scans at 18-20 weeks and I just can't wait that long. 14 weeks is awesome....how lucky! There are a few places that will do elective early gender scans around here but they all say a minimum of 16 weeks. Please KUP if you decide to go for it! Biggrin

:lurk:

14 weeks is super early, and often too hard to tell. I had an ultrasound done by my OB at 14 weeks this time around and she said that at that point it was so hard to tell because things are still in the process of developing... so, what looks like it COULD be a penis, may just be the cliterus... what COULD be labia, may just be testicles still forming...

We won't get a scan until 20 weeks. It's hard to wait but I would rather spend the money on baby things and I think 20 more weeks is plenty of time to plan. We already have a bed set and are doing a pooh nursery regardless of gender. If we found out earlier I would just have more time to buy baby clothes !! Haha.

14 weeks seems on the verge of being too early to tell with absolute certainty. Would you be ok with being told boy or girl, only to later find out the scan wasn't accurate? If not, I don't think I'd chance it.

Actually, all the research I did, the gender scan at 14 weeks is 92-98% accurate. 12 weeks it drops to 50%. My guess is those couple of weeks in crucial to gender organ development. Any question of due date could potentially make the scan less accurate.

I am going to do it. I won't write anything in stone until my 20 week scan. I don't care either way boy or girl, so thats not an issue with me! Aug 11 is the date! So excited!
