For those of you who have never heard of oil pulling, it is supposed to improve oral health and there are claims that it even treats systemic diseases. You basically rinse your mouth with approximately one tablespoon of oil (sesame and sunfloweroils are the most recommended but I use cold pressed extra virgin coconut oil, tastes way better IMO) for 15?20 minutes (that is a LONG time to swish oil girls) on an empty stomach (before eating/drinking) then spit it out.
If you Google "oil pulling", there are many skeptics who don't believe that it actually detoxes but the benefits for oral health seem agreed upon.
I have only tried it once and all I can say is wow! I have never had such a clean mouth (sounds like a gross way to get a clean mouth, right?!) The best part was the white stuff that you can never really get off of the back of your tongue no matter how much you brush came right off with my make shift "tongue scraper" (aka a small spoon). Every where I have read says it is safe during pregnancy, but I will wait to do it again until I confirm that with my OBGYN. Anyone else do this?
I used to oil pull with coconut oil and it really helped whiten my teeth naturally. I haven't done it in a while but I don't see why it would be harmful during pregnancy. Ask your OB....I'm sure she souldn't have a problem with it.
