September Chat Thread

Hey ladies! Our chat threads don't seem to take off very much but let's try this again.

How are you guys doing?

I'm doing pretty well. I'm feeling baby boy daily now and he seems to be getting stronger too. He normally starts kicking and rolling around every day at 10:30 am. LOL He's been really active today and it feels like I have a mini dolphin in my tummy. Biggrin

I'm really excited to get the nursery started soon. I'm going to wait a few more weeks since I don't want to dismantle the guest room which will be the nursery just yet. I have some house guests that will be staying with us in a few weeks. After that I guess I'll have to start emptying out the room which will be a pain in the butt! lol Where in the heck am I supposed to put all the stuff? I guess we're going to have to rent a storage unit.

I have a nice stash of baby clothes going. I can't seem to help myself. I keep only buying clothes, shoes, toys and books. Oh yeah, I did buy a Medela PIS breast pump.

Pretty much the cat is out of the bag now. We told our immediate family at 16.5/17 weeks and somehow the news has spread to everyone!

What's going on with you guys?!

Things are going great here, DD is back to school which means back to the normal routine. I'm still gaging and puking several mornings a week but once it's over I'm usually fine for the day.

With school back in session and cooler fall temps I'm baking regularly which DH and his coworkers are very excited about (the boys love my cookies lol). Also now that I have loads of free time, I am getting back to my organizing projects that were put on hold for the summer. I'll be busy getting the house ready for baby for several months, we're shifting a few rooms around to accommodate the new nursery.

Congrats Jina on feeling baby move, it really is the best feeling in the world. I'm feeling movement more and more frequently but not regularly yet, just the 'bigger' movements so far.

Oh! I won tickets for one of the concerts during Harvest Jazz and Blues which is held back in our hometown. We're making an extra trip next weekend for it, super excited! It's an amazing event and the energy around town is out of this world. People come from all over the globe to attend every year. Biggrin

Things are going pretty good here, but quiet.....for 3 weeks we were looking after my cousins dog, and we had to give him back last week Sad

Jina, I can't wait to start doing our nursery too! I think we're going to start looking for furniture in the next month or so. And it must feel so good to have everything out in the open!! How did everyone react?

Crystal, that sucks that you're stillg etting sick! However....these cookies that you mention. Any chance of a recipe? I love baking, but get bored of making the same things over and over. How's your DD liking being back at school?

I'm feeling ok.....still dealing with pretty bad fatigue....I thought it was supposed to go away after the first trimester, but no such luck yet. It is better than before though, so that's a plus.
Other than buying the nedding set, we actually haven't bought anything for the baby.
I feel kinda like I should be, but I'm still having a hard time believing I'm pregnant! Does that sound strange? I think after we know the gender and I'm feeling baby a bit more it'll seem a lot more realistic and I'll feel a bit more in-tune with things.

And we booked ss trip for Thanksgiving.....we're going to San Francisco for a few days with my mom, brother, and his wife (the SIL who's also due in February), so looking forward to that, DH and I have never been there before Smile

So let's hear how everyone else is doing, and if there's any lurkers out there, come say hi!!!

Jo I made basic chocolate chip cookies and whoopie pies. Plus I made some no bake chocolate oat cookies but I switched a few ingredients to make them dairy and gluten free for a friend who was coming for coffee. I often surf pinterest looking for some new inspiration for cooking and baking. I have so many pins now I need to start trying lol!

San Francisco sounds awesome! I'm thinking about trying to plan a girls trip to Bangor Maine for black friday shopping Smile

Crystal, ugh! Sorry you're still getting sick. Sad Sounds like you're really busy these days! Oh man cookies sound really good. I have a recipe for Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies that are seriously to die for. I LOVE them so much. I always make several different cookies for Christmas and mail them out to friends and family and year after year the Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies are a hit with everyone. How cool that you won tickets to the festival! That sounds like fun. I hope you guys have a blast. The Texas Fair is starting soon and I can't wait to go. I've never been and I've lived in Texas almost my entire life. Haha.

Jo, awww...sorry you had to give the pooch back. Do you guys have any pets? Yes, it does feel nice to have it out in the open. Everyone was very happy for us and most people were SHOCKED! lol A lot of people said they thought that we didn't want kids. I thought that was kind of rude to actually voice it to us but yeah...I guess I can see why they would think that. Ohhh...San Francisco sounds like so much fun. I love that city...it's so beautiful. I hope you guy have a wonderful time there. Biggrin

I can't wait to see what everyone does with their nurseries. Biggrin We'll have to start a nursery thread later and share pics when we're done. Biggrin

What did you guys do over the weekend? We totally relaxed here and checked out a cute baby store in down town and went to Buy Buy Baby. I think we're pretty sure about what crib and glider we're getting. We're still debating between two strollers though. Checking out some of the bigger items is really making this feel more real to me. Smile BUT, I'm STILL paranoid about buying the bigger stuff. I wonder if the paranoia will ever go away.

Jina & Jo you are almost half way there! Whoo hooo!! COngrats Girlies Smile

It might take a while for the paranoia to go away, I hope it does though. You worked so hard and totally deserve this Smile

The nursery stuff is stressing me out a bit, mainly because we have so much to do to empty out that room before we can even being to get organized. My MIL is buying us a crib and I'm putting her off for now because we simply have nowhere to put anything! 4 bedrooms in this house and we have nowhere to put even a box of diapers yet! I'm looking at probably 2 to 3 baby showers which will be great for gifts but yikes what will we DO with all that stuff! I'm starting to think we should have bought a bigger house....

Oh I found out today that we'll be getting an extra u/s! Because DD1 was born with a heart defect we will be getting a u/s where they do an echo-cardiogram on the baby to check for defects. We'll have to travel for it but that's ok, this way we'll be aware of any potential heart issues before the birth. In the event there's an issue (worse than DD's) we'd have to have the baby delivered at the IWK-Grace in Halifax but there's only a very slim chance of that.

Well, Happy Monday ladies! (Lol I know, no such thing as a good monday morning!). I swear....one of these times DH has GOT to let me go back to bed rather than going to work in the morning! I whine at him every day about it, I've got to be breaking him down by now!

Our weekend was good.....nice and relaxed! I think the next 3 or 4 weekends are already booked up, so it was great to just be lazy around the house for a few days.

Jina, I totally understand wanting the paranoia to go away!! I've been so hesitant to buy anything for this baby because of it! Funny enough, it's DH that's been wanting to go look at nursery furniture and strollers. I think we've decided on the stroller we want (the Bob Revolution) because it fits both of us easily and is so easy to move!

Crystal....well, hooray for an extra U/S, but I hope they don't find anything!!!

We have a 'meet the Dr' night at the hospital to go to tonight.....there's only 2 Dr's in the maternity practice we're seeing, but they have a network of 7 doctors in total that all rotate being on call that are all women. So with this practice, even if our main Dr isn't there to deliver for us, we've at least had a chance to meet the Dr who's doing the catching, and they're somewhat familiar with our files.

And we get our U/S this Wednesday!! We are finding out the gender, but the U/S tec's aren't allowed to say anything, so we have to wait until next week at the earliest when we go for our monthly checkup!

Other than that, I have a new pregnancy symptom that's driving me INSANE!!! I've been having baby brain pretty badly, and it's translated into talking now as well.....I stumble over so many words it's embarrassing. BUT now it's gotten into my typing too!! I swear, it's taking me at least 3 times as long to get something typed for work because it's IMPOSSIBLE to do it without massive type-o's!

I hate to tell you this Jo but the baby brain doesn't really go away... I'm still waiting 9 years later AND it's gotten worse with this pregnancy! I'm not sure how those women with 5 and 6 children cope lol I forget things all the time, for instance I get the dishwasher ready and forget to turn it on, I start a load of laundry but forget to close the lid so it fills up and stops, switch clothes to the dryer but never switch it ON, we were supposed to go to Maine last weekend but in my packing I forgot a few things, such as our PASSPORTS and DH's deodorant (he was smelly all weekend lol). I'm normally the one who remembers things but now DH with his senior citizen's memory has to step up to the plate... lol it's not going well!

Oh and I almost forgot to put tonight's dinner in the oven! As it is supper will be a bit on the late side...

Crystal, sorry the nursery planning is stressing you out. It's kind of stressing me out too. We have to empty out the guest room and rent a storage unit because we just simply do not have any extra room. When we bought this house 6 years ago we thought the place was HUGE after living in a 2 bedroom apartment. Plus, we weren't thinking about kids at all! I can't wait to buy a bigger house because there is NO way we can have another child in this house. lol Anyway, I'm sure everything will work out and once you empty out the room you can get to the fun part of decorating!! Biggrin

Yay for the extra u/s!! I hope they don't find anything but I'm happy that you guys get to take a peek at your LO! Biggrin

Jo, glad you guys had a nice relaxing weekend. Biggrin Yay for deciding on a stroller! I'm having a hard time...I'm sure I won't actually decide between the two until the very last minute.

Have fun at the Meet and Greet. What a neat idea! Ahhhhh! Yay for your big u/s! I can't wait to hear all about it and see pics! I can't believe the techs can't tell you the gender! Grrr....lol...I'm very impatient!

I hear you guys about the pregnancy brain. I feel like a bumbling idot most days. Wink

I can't believe we are almost half way there! I am just 16 weeks and finally starting to feel some flutters. DD is in Pre Kindergarten and is doing really well. DH and I have been encouraging her to have some self play time every day in her room so she will be used to playing alone for a bit when the baby comes. She is becoming quite independent and it is so cute to hear her play "tea party" with her dolls Biggrin

I have been looking for what seems like forever for a winter coat since it gets down in the teens here for a while and winters can be quite chilly! Maternity coats are awful! They are all black (how depressing) and very blah. In my search for a coat with some color, I got online and chatted with a "Land's End" associate to gripe that they didn't have any maternity coats and she suggested I check out their plus size coats. Going off my chest measurements, adding 2" for growing, I found an adorable "swing jacket" that can fully extend to 62" comfortably. The main measurement was for my chest so I will probably be able to wear this even after I have the baby. It is rated for 5? to 25?. I can't wait to see it (crossing my fingers that it will work because the other options are so ugly LOL. I mean making a baby is on of the most amazing things we as women can do....we should feel fabulous while doing it!

Here is a link and a picture of the coat in case you all are trying to find a cute one as well...

I've started looking for coats too, I found a cute one I like but the site doesn't indicate what temps it's good for Sad since I'm in Atlantic Canada we get COLD (and then colder) and a lot of snow so I need a good warm coat.

I might try the plus size store here to see if they have anything. Thanks for the idea!

Jacki, that coat is ADORABLE!

I have unfortunately found myself in plus sized shirts prepregnancy all because of my boobs. It's quite depressing actually since the rest of the top is so completely huge on me but shirts that fit me everywhere else are too small for my bust. Sad

I'm going to be heading to the Burlington Coat Factory in the near future because in previous pregnancies I've found that they have very inexpensive maternity clothes. Smile

Jacki, glad to hear that your DD is bcoming more independent. Biggrin Yay for finding a cute coat! When does it start getting cold in FL? I might have to look for a coat too....I'm hoping I won't have to, though. It doesn't really start getting too cold here until November/December so I'm going to hold off for a while. It's kind of hard for me to shop for clothes right now because as a FTM, I have NO clue how big I'm going to get. lol

Crystal, I bet if gets extremely cold there! I'm such a wimp. It gets just below freezing here most winter and I'm seriously freezing my butt off. lol

Danielle, we have a Burlington Coat Factory here too. I didn't know they carried maternity stuff. I haven't been there in years. The last time I was there was maybe 5 years ago? and I found the most amazing Laundry by Shelli Segal Coat there.

It was a bit big for me then but I bought it anyway so maybe it'll fit better this winter? I hope so! I'm going to pull it out later today and check it out! lol

Jina, we have 2 Burlington Coat Factories and only one carries maternity stuff so yours may or may not. I say check it out though b/c I got some nice comfy pants with DS2 that cost me a whole $10 Wink

I love that coat, it looks so sweet!!
I'm hoping I can get away without buying a new winter coat this year.....a couple years ago I bought a nice black wool coat that's the same 'swing' style, so since it doesn't do up over the bump, I'm hoping we can make it work!!
.....Lucky for us though we live on the wet west coast - so it gets crazy cold, but we don't get much snow. Just 4 months of rain Blum 3

And on a totally unrelated and TMI note......OMG I have to pee!!!!! we have our ultrasound today, and so of course I get the instructions to drink over 1 liter of water an hour before the scan, and I'm miserable! I'm seriously looking at the clock on my desk counting down the minutes til I go for the scan.....not because I'll get to see the baby, but b/c it means this misery is almost over!
.....ok, crazy rant over!

I was like that at my u/s too! I HATE those ones because I always have to pee sooooo bad and they always take forever to get me back there for the scan. This time, I literally almost peed myself. It was awful.

I can't drink as much as they tell you. I peed every 10 mins right up till I left for the hospital and still almost couldn't hold it while the tech did the scan! I was so happy when she said she was switching to a transvag so I could go pee!

OK.....back from the scan!!! (and feeling MUCH more comfortable!!!)
So baby is.......a surprise Smile They kept the goods hidden, the U/S tec said they aren't going to be able to include the gender in their report since they couldn't see anything.
Other than apparently being as stubborn as me (yikes - I'm gonna be in trouble!), baby looks great Smile We got to see the heart pumping blood, see the kidneys functioning, everything looks as it should. I'm still measuring behind (18+4), so who knows.....they might still move my date back. I wish I had a crystal ball to tell me when this baby is going to come, because I don't want to go off work too soon and then have a month of hanging around the house just waiting for baby to show!

The U/S tec we had today wasn't the best.....first of all she was brutally painful and I swear I'll have bruises from the scan, and also the pics she gave us weren't very good.....all she printed for us was straight on face shots, which to me look like something out of a halloween or alien movie! The pics just show the outline of the skull and eye sockets. I know I'm going to love this little alien in me, but right now it's just kinda creepy!

I think DH and I are going to spring for a 3D scan later this month.....one near us is having a 3D gender assessment special for $79, so I think we might book that!

Well, I know I should be working, but looking up baby stuff is so much more fun!!

Oh I'd book the 3D/4D! Especially if they guarantee they'll find the gender. The place we're going to does, if they can't see if you get to go back again for free!

I wish we were going to get a gender scan sooner than our U/S but it would be out of pocket. DH and I talked about it and decided we would rather put the money towards baby stuff but it still stinks Smile haha. I can't wait until The end of October! We get to find out gender, I will almost be done with this semester, and we will be that much closer to baby! I love Halloween btw so that will probably be the day we share the gender with family Smile I have found a ton of cute things to do.

I just realized the other day I am going to have to get a winter coat this winter ... Was going to buy a new one anyway but I don't really want to spend a ton of money on a maternity coat. Last winter was pretty mild here, so maybe I will get lucky and can make it through with a fleece or something Smile We will see!

How is everyone doing?

It's so exciting that a lot of us are finding out the gender soon. I can't believe I'm almost half way done with this pregnancy! Every single day I'm just awed and thankful that I've been able to make it this far. Hubby got kicked HARD by baby boy the other night. I think he was putting too much pressure on my uterus and baby boy decided to kick him really really hard. LOL Hubby's eyes lit up and he was like WTH was that?! It was awesome. As a FTM to be, and especially as a person who's had recurrent miscarriages, it's such an amazing feeling to feel baby boy moving around. I feel him every day and it makes me smile ear to ear. Biggrin

My anatomy scan went well and my next appointment is in 4 weeks. We're going to schedule a 4d u/s for 28ish weeks at my next appointment. I really like that my doctor's office offers elective scans. Smile

I hope you are all having a great Tuesday!

Ughhhh I'm with you on this one!! I swear, the 2nd trimester honeymoon is about as real as a unicorn that poops rainbows! I'm still finding that if I don't eat every few hours I'm getter really nauseous, and still so exhausted that by the end of the day I don't have energy for anything! Even eating dinner is too much effort!

Jina, you DH must have been so excited to feel baby boy!!! I can't wait until DH gets a chance to feel that! I think we have a few weeks to go before he can feel it....I'm feeling lots on the inside, but I'm not able to feel any kicks or anything on the outside yet.

Anyone get up to anything exciting over the weekend?

DS 2 did that to DH when I was pregnant with him. We were sleeping and my belly was up against DH's back and Logan kicked so hard that he woke DH up and DH said, "WHAT WAS THAT!?!?!" I thought it was hilarious but I did ask him, "if it was hard enough to wake you up, how do you think it felt for me?" lol.

I bet it's really exciting to feel baby boy move so much!!

I am still having nausea and tired all the time. Everyone, especially mothers, are telling me "Oh it will get better, just wait. You will start to get your energy back soon." It takes everything I have to smile and nod. I feel like crap people ! I don't think it's getting any better and with work, school, packing and trying to find an apartment, and being a wife and mom I don't think the exhaustion is going anywhere. Please don't tell me what my body is going to do ! I have had a baby before, and I have been around enough pregnant women to know that no pregnancy is the same.

I had a dream last night that DH got to feel baby kick for the 1st time !!! I hope it comes true soon Smile He loved to feel DD moving around.

This week is crawling by now because I scheduled a gender scan for Thursday. Its just a brief ultrasound with a couple pictures. If we like them we will go back and get a 3D/4D ultrasound done later in pg. They make heartbeat bears after 20 weeks. I think this would be so cool for DD to have !

Also, I work at a Daycare and had a mom be so rude this yesterday. She just had a baby two weeks ago and she came in to drop her older daughter off and while there she said, "I see you've been posting on Facebook.(She meant about being pregnant/the baby. I've been putting up my belly picture every two weeks and vaguely talking about being pregnant in my status occasionally.) I wouldn't do that. I DIDN't do that."

I had no idea what to say, so I just kind of smiled at her and sort of nodded.

Then she said, "I didn't want everyone in my busy. So be careful what you put up there."

What in the heck am I supposed to say to that??? I'm sorry you are friends with people on FB that you don't want to know your pregnant?? Why does it affect you if people know that I'm pregnant on FB? We are past the miscarriage risk, have lots 2 babies and are really happy/excited about this baby, and we wouldn't abort for any reason so why wouldn't we want to share this happy news with our friends and family who we don't get to see because they don't live by us??

UGH ! I just want to tell everyone to leave the heck alone for the next 5 1/2 months.

Jo, I'm sorry you're still feeling nauseous. Sad That really sucks! I really hope you start to feel better soon. Yes, Hubby was extremely happy to be able to feel baby boy. He keeps putting his hand on my tummy instead of my butt now.

Danielle, ow! That must have hurt! He must have kicked HARD if he woke up your DH from his sleep! LOL

Megan, congrats on your little boy!! I bet your DH is over the moon!

WTH is wrong with your co-worker?! She sounds like a real peach. I swear...I have no idea why people think it's okay to say rude things to women...especially pregnant women.

AFM, not much going on here. I've just been exhausted. I don't have energy to anything and it sucks! Sad

How is everyone today? I am exhausted. I spent the entire weekend running around shopping, cleaning and organizing. I'm ready to take it easy and read all day today. I really think I over did it this weekend so I'm going to be taking it real easy for the next few days. I have to rest up so I can have energy for my nieces. I'm babysitting them this coming up weekend since my BIL and SIL are going out of town. Accck...wish me luck! They are definitely a handful. Wink

Jina, how old are you nieces? That sounds like it's going to be an exciting weekend!!

I think this baby is having a growth spurt......it feels like she's tripled in size in less than a week!! Other than that, pretty good......I have low blood pressure, so I've been having some bad dizzy spells lately. My Dr isn't concerned since there's really nothing to be done about it, but it's certainly annoying!

How was everyone's weekend? we started our baby registry Smile It was so fun to go around the store with the little gun, but so overwhelming!

We also started our baby registry this weekend and we got new phones. We traded our sad flip phones for iPhone 4s'. We were not planning to get new phones but we both had upgrades and the price just dropped because of the iphone 5. I decided I wanted a smart phone to take pictures of Nolan and share them easily with family when he's born Smile so we went ahead and did it.

Today I'm at work ... It's naptime so I'm watching a baby story Smile

Is that why I'm having dizzy spells? I always have low blood pressure while pregnant but NOBODY bothered to tell me what that meant- just that it can be "normal".

Saturday night, my parents took the boys and Ed and I were going to go see a movie but apparently Batman isn't playing anymore (we don't get out much lol) so instead, we got The Woman in Black from redbox and watched that and played some Magic the Gathering. A geeky night in heaven if we do say so ourselves.

One of the joys of being a SAHM with a school age kid is that I am on my own from 8 to 3:30, naps as often as I like. But Mount Laundry looms like a scary volcano about to erupt...

Jo, my nieces are (almost) 2 and 4. So, they require constant attention. The 4 yo requires my constant undivided attention. She HAS to have all the attention on her at ALL times. lol

I understand about the low blood pressure. I have pretty low blood pressure too. I actually almost passed out at Ikea on Saturday. It was pretty scary. I felt so dizzy, shaky, and nauseous and was almost blacking out while we were in line to home delivery service. I had to leave Hubby to stand in line by himself and went outside. Then as soon as I made it outside I collapsed on a bench. I couldn't make it to the car. Anyway, I felt like cr@p and was really really scared. I finally made it to the car and chugged a bottle of cold water and ate a sugary granola bar. I started to feel slightly better but I was still pretty woozy for the rest of the day.

Yay for starting your baby registry! How fun! Biggrin

Megan, I hope you're enjoying your new phone. Oh and I hope you guys had fun starting your registry.

Danielle, sounds like a relaxing evening to me! I love geeky evenings! lol

Crystal, hopefully the laundry hasn't erupted yet! Wink

AFM, speaking of baby registries. I have a private registry (I do not want a baby shower) set up and man, it was overwhelming researching all the stuff I need. Eeek!

I can't wait til next weekend. We're going to officially start taking the guestroom apart to start on the nursery! I'm excited! Biggrin

We don't want a shower either. People keep asking and I'm just like "No, I don't think we will." and they look at me like I'm crazy. I'm personally of the opinion that if you have a baby with the same person within a few years you don't need a shower, SO i'm hoping no one has one for us. We are planning on and have already started buying everything we need. I'm sure family will want to get a couple things and they can use our registry if they want. The major thing I love about registries is that they nearly all send you a 25% off total purchase coupon to buy anything off your registry after baby is born. We will be using those !

We started our cloth diaper stash today ! I was so excited and DH was actually more into it than i expected. The sales associate sat with us and explained everything that we needed to know. I had already read about most of it, but she was much better at relaying the information to him than I have been ! We bought some AIO's, cloth wipes, a hanging wet bag for the nursery, and a travel wet/dry bag. We have to go back at some point before baby is born to get prefolds, snappis, and my breast pump. They sell the Medela PIS for 200$ which is way cheaper than I have been able to find it anywhere else !

I'm so excited to already be at 18 weeks, but at the same time Feb/Mar seems so far away !!!

I feel like it's a million years away Megan! LOL Our friend just had her baby (a boy finally! lol) and I'm dying to see him. We go home next weekend so we'll get to meet the little man then Biggrin

I expect we will have at least 2 showers. DH's family already wants to have one for us and I'm sure my mother will as well. I'm ok with that becasue we need EVERYTHING! It's been 9 years since DD and I gave away all my baby stuff years ago since it was never an option to have more kids. I think we might start a registry too, that way it's easier for the family who want to buy us baby stuff for Christmas to get what we need.

I can't believe we're 18w tomorrow! I weighed in this morning and I'm down 10/11 lbs total. I think I'm going to track my food for a few days to make sure I'm taking enough cals in. I'm not going hungry at all, but perhaps I should be snacking more?

We don't want a "shower" per se but I do believe that every baby should be celebrated so I do want a party before (or just after) baby arrives. Gifts are completely optional since the goal, for us, is just to celebrate our new arrival. Smile

I love the discounts the registries give too! So nice!!

You have CD store local? I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO jealous!!
