    Default Mini Rant.

We have been tossing around names for both boys and girls as we don't know yet. For a girl it'll be Sylvia Athaleen, these are both family names. My late grandmother and late great grandmother. and for a boy his middle name will be Charles. No idea on the first name yet. So I was talking to my grandmother the other day and told her what we liked for a girl name and she asked why I wasn't using my mom's name, I told her that we had chosen those names because of their importance to us. Her responce? 'I thought your mother would be more important then your dead grandma'

    DFAKJLRAUHRP;IAHR;UNADKCNA;KJFBG RSPIEURHG;AJFA;DJFA;DUFHAIUFHASKFDJA; SDKFJASDFAOSIFHAQOUIERHGOIQARJG;AJRGA;UHGAQO';IHGA 'ORGJKAER GALRGFAOEURHGAOIAORIJ GAERHGARHGAO;RUIHJA';ROIHGAOURG

WHO SAYS THAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I am livid. Like, absolutely livid. My nanny (Athaleen) and big nanny (Sylvia) and I were extremely close, I spent my summers with them for 8 years before they both passed within a 4 month period of each other. I have had this name picked since I was 14 years old. I know that not everyone will like our names, I get that. A lot of people don't like my son's name and I am normally ok with them not liking it. But to say that to me!? I get that I am probably over-reacting I just needed to vent to someone....

Sorry you had to deal with that response. That is why we don't breathe a word of baby names (potential or final) to anyone. People mean well (or are just mean) and can say things when it really isn't their place to weigh in. I figure if we wait until baby is here to announce the name, people will be so excited by the arrival news and seeing the baby that the name is better received. It worked out well for us to wait with DS as I knew we would get questions and comments that would unleash my protective (but labile) pregnancy emotions. Plus it was nice to have something that just DH and I shared since everyone already knew the gender.

In the end, the names are your's and DH's decision and it sounds like you chose two that are very meaningful to you despite what she said.

My brother and sil were like that with their first. All of their friends were pregnant too, so there was a lot of proactive naming stuff in their group. If asked my brother, with a completely straight face, would answer... "If it's a boy, Boutros Boutros Ghali. If it's a girl, JonBen?t." People thought he was either crazy or weird, but they changed the subject...

Athaleen is a breathtakingly gorgeous name! And Sylvia Athaleen is one of the most incredible names I've ever heard. It's absolutely beautiful. We've not told anyone yet, but we're probably going for Agatha with the middle names Rosa and Alice for our girl. Agatha is just out of the blue, but Rosa was my great grandmother, and Alice was DH's grandmother. I bet a few of our relatives will turn up an eyebrow at 'Agatha' but they won't find out till she's here, and then it's tough cookie and they'll keep their mouths shut.

I take it the comment came from another grandma? Just wondering if maybe there's a bit of jealousy. It's just a really lovely, intelligent and pretty name. And I love your son's name too by the way!

    LOVE the name

I agree with the throatpunch. I would be livid too. What a horribly mean hurtful thing to say!! I don't hide names (because god knows i can't keep a secret for anything!) but I also don't leave room for argument, and i know that i'm going to get negativity from my mom (oh I"M SURE!). Screw it, we like what we like, and OUR opinion is the one that counts! It's never a huge lasting argument, and no one is going to hate us forever for choosing what we do

Yes, Sylvia and Athaleen are my grandma and GG from my dad's side and Linda, The one who made the comment is my mom's mom. I understand the jealousy. And I am pretty immune to the 'oh that's a terrible name' and 'Why would you name your sweet daughter an old person name' or we have gotten 'You should have named him (Stetson) after his dad' I really don't mind that people have opinions about names. I have my own opinions on names too. I guess it was just the way she said it that I feel was completely uncalled for. We wanted a name that was very feminine and very grown. I feel that Sylvia is going to work on a 2 yr old and a 40 yr old.

We have decided that we will not be hiding the name until birth, I have to big of a blabber mouth. If we have a boy we are set. We have nothing for a boy, no idea where to start! So we might be waiting till the birth if that happens.

On a side note, I LOVE Agatha. It's adorable! And as you can probably tell, I am a huge fan of names after people so love both the middle names.

well Im a little late to the party but i like the name as well.
Stick with what you and Dh likes it is your kiddo.

This time although I love my mom, i haven't really given her any true ideas on names we like, since she can be rather critical, or obnoxious on her name suggestions. it doesn't bother me as much as it bothers Dh. But once we are set on a name i don't think anyone's opinion would change it.

Good luck on finding a boys name, I forget are you team green ?
