Default Scan and new appt update

After my appt on Friday, my dr scheduled a scan for today and an appointment to talk more, and to recheck my bp.
The scan was first. He passed the biophysical profile. Good heartbeat. Good movement.
They have told me over several ultrasounds that he would be a bigger baby. He's measured a week ahead the whole time, and he's been in the 76th percentile since they started giving me that number. But over the last 3 weeks, he's only gained a few ounces (instead of the normal 1.5 pounds), is now half a week behind, and measures at the 50th percentile (at 5lbs, 13 oz). He's not losing weight, so that's great, but his growth has slowed dramatically.

Then I went into the appt, and my blood pressure was 147/98, which made my dr cringe. She said that the hand pain I have is a blood pressure/ swelling side effect. I have also suddenly gained 5 pounds. Since Friday. None of this is good either.
So she is taking me out of work, effective right away. And she sent me home with the huge container to do a 24 hour urine collection. When I bring that back, she wants a bunch of blood work. And she's scheduled a fetal non-stress test.

So jeez. I liked when she said on Friday, I'd get him earlier, at 39 weeks. But now i'm worried. I'm really glad she is watching me closely, but now that I've seen the ultrasound and know it's affecting him in a negative way, it's hard not to worry about things. I almost wish she'd have just suggested that we induce right away.

Try not to worry too much, hard to do I know, as worrying will make your BP rise.

To help you feel better, Robbie was born at 36w1d, he was 4lbs 12oz, he stayed in the NICU for 5 days but only due to jaundice, he was off monitoring at 24 hours. I am sure your little guy would do well if he was born now.

    Susan,

I'm so glad that you are getting the care you and that sweet baby need! (((((HUGS))))) Please take care of yourself, rest up and within a few weeks you'll be cuddling and snuggling to your heart's content!

Glad they are checking things out though I know this is a scary and stress inducing situation to be in right now. I will share my story too to hopefully put your mind at slightly more ease.

I was induced via amniotomy at 36 wks 2 days with DS b/c of medical issues. He was 6 lbs 11 oz at birth & he dropped in weight to 5 lbs & some odd oz by discharge. No NICU stay and we were d/c'd from hospital after two nights. He was monitored on outpt basis for jaundice and weight gain issues for first week or so. Now to look at him you wouldn't know my 75th percentile weight and height toddler was a late pre-term newborn with weight gain issues in the beginning

Not exactly how you wanted things to go for sure, but hopefully it will work out and you and baby will be okay

I know it's hard not to worry! Hugs! My first was a 32 weeker and was only in NICU for 17 days (mostly due to jaundice). My bp hovered around what yours is for about 3 weeks and he was born yesterday and 7 pounds at 39 weeks. Happy and healthy. I know all those tests sound scary but they help really narrow down what's going on so that the right stuff can happen. The urine is a pain in the butt but pretty simple (I got to take my jug to chuckee cheese). The labs will let them know exactly how your body is dealing. I found resting and planning a fantasy vacation helped (especially somewhere warm as it's snowy here). Hang in there!!

That must have been interesting. My two jugs were home with me fortunately until I had to lug them to L&D while being admitted.

oh im sry bout the BP.... But the ladies her are right good thing they are keeping a close eye on you. try hard to relax as much as you can.
All i can really say is i was freaking out about my Bp the last few appointments it was high when they check right away, but every time they will check right before i leave and it was way down and back to normal... that being said have you checked it outside of dr.s office???
Good luck with the test and i hope for a safe and happy mama and baby.
    Chris
